Ned made three mistakes: First, showing Cersei mercy. Second, not taking Renly's advice to seize the throne from Cersei and Joffery. The worst mistake he made was trusting Littlefinger(despite being warned not to by the man himself).
@@Tkk861 Idiot in the sense that he was naive about the political arena he participated in. He underestimated his political opponents. If you are in a pit full of snakes, it is probably wise to respect their crafiness and learn how to deal with them.
I actually like Renley better than I like Stanis I don’t trust stannis as far as I can throw him. Ned made a mistake, trusting little finger. Without a doubt no one should trust that man. Technically, if you go by Roberts siblings, it would’ve been Stanis in line, but technically if you went by Roberts actual kids, I don’t know if it would’ve been Gendry or not, but it definitely would not have been Cersei’s kids with her brother. None of them would’ve been in line to inherit the throne. That is why when Ned wrote the will, he put rightful heir and not Joffreys name
Is backstory from the books considered as spoilers @mods? I don’t think it spoils anything, only gives more insight into his character. „Ten years ago, Jon Arryn had given him a minor sinecure in customs, where Lord Petyr had soon distinguished himself by bringing in three times as much as any of the king's other collectors. King Robert had been a prodigious spender. A man like Petyr Baelish, who had a gift for rubbing two golden dragons together to breed a third, was invaluable to his Hand. Littlefinger's rise had been arrow-swift. Within three years of his coming to court, he was master of coin and a member of the small council, and today the crown's revenues were ten times what they had been under his beleaguered predecessor . . . though the crown's debts had grown vast as well. A master juggler was Petyr Baelish. Oh, he was clever. He did not simply collect the gold and lock it in a treasure vault, no. He paid the king's debts in promises, and put the king's gold to work. He bought wagons, shops, ships, houses. He bought grain when it was plentiful and sold bread when it was scarce. He bought wool from the north and linen from the south and lace from Lys, stored it, moved it, dyed it, sold it. The golden dragons bred and multiplied, and Littlefinger lent them out and brought them home with hatchlings. And in the process, he moved his own men into place. The Keepers of the Keys were his, all four. The King's Counter and the King's Scales were men he'd named. The officers in charge of all three mints. Harbormasters, tax farmers, customs sergeants, wool factors, toll collectors, pursers, wine factors; nine of every ten belonged to Littlefinger. They were men of middling birth, by and large; merchants' sons, lesser lordlings, sometimes even foreigners, but judging from their results, far more able than their highborn predecessors. No one had ever thought to question the appointments, and why should they? Littlefinger was no threat to anyone. A clever, smiling, genial man, everyone's friend, always able to find whatever gold the king or his Hand required, and yet of such undistinguished birth, one step up from a hedge knight, he was not a man to fear. He had no banners to call, no army of retainers, no great stronghold, no holdings to speak of, no prospects of a great marriage.“
Renly is not Robert's son, he's his brother. Renly is Robert's younger brother. Robert has an older brother named Stannis, who would technically be heir to the throne after Robert dies.
No, Robert's eldest son would be heir to the throne (once a king has a son the monarch's brothers don't count - I say "king", "son" and "brothers" BTW because in GoT the line of succession is purely patrilineal whereas in our world many monarchies allow female heirs too).
The deer-scene at the beginning was not fake. It was a real deer. And Charles Dance (Tywin "Daddy" Lannister) got lessons in butchering just for doing it right in this scene. I mean, you eat meat, right? Someone has to do the job.
OK, so here's what happened in King's Landing: - Ned, being honourable, warned Cersei (who, knowing he wouldn't get it, warned him back). - Robert got mortally wounded by a boar, and named Ned regent (Ned didn't tell him about Cersei's incest). - Ned told Renly (Robert's youngest brother) about Robert having no direct heirs (or he figured it out himself, I don't recall), and he told Ned _he_ (Renly) should be king, because people like him more than the middle brother Stannis (who we haven't seen yet, but who apparently is less liked than Renly). - Ned, honourable as he is, wrote instead to Stannis, who would be the rightful heir if Robert's sons were officially declared bastards. - Petyr Baelish, also known as Littlefinger, master of the coin, offered Ned to pay the gold cloaks (King's Landing's city watch) to stage a coup to put Renly on the throne. Ned declined, thinking Robert's will would be enough to get the gold cloaks on his side, and that Stannis was the rightful king anyway. - Cersei had Joffrey declare himself king, Ned challenged her, she ignored Robert's will, and the gold cloaks did what the man who pays them, Littlefinger, told them to do... which was side with Joffrey. The game of thrones is not made for honourable players. :/ And _meanwhile,_ across the Narrow Sea: - Ser Jorah, who had been spying on Dany and Viserys for Varys, received Robert's pardon (issued earlier in the season when Ned quit after Robert refused to spare Dany's life), allowing him to return to Westeros (he explained how he was exiled for selling poachers as slaves back in episode 4) now that the last Targaryen was about to die. - Ser Jorah, however, had come to like Dany, so he saved her. - The discovery of Robert's plot to poison his wife and child, however, finally decided Drogo to find some way to ride across the poison water, so as to make clear to the lords of Westeros that he was not happy _at all_ about this kind of thing. Oh, and at the wall Jon got made a steward, Sam didn't get made a wizard, both swore the oath, uncle Benjen's horse rode back without him, and Ghost found a hand. I hope this can clarify your confusion without spoiling anything.
Lena Headey is such an amazing actress...she is terrifying for sure! Her Cersei portrait is perfect! I love how you guys are so invested in this show and it's only the beginning. Now you know why everybody talked about it. Most amazing tv show ever.
Apparently, one of the selling points for Charles Dance (the actor playing Lord Tywin Lannister) was the producers asked, "How'd you like to learn how to butcher a deer?" and then had him butcher a deer onscreen. Charles Dance plays a lot of "suave and debonaire" roles, but apparently he's more into getting his hands dirty and trying new things and having fun than he is fancy parties.
That's true. He's actually from a working class family and isn't fancy whatsoever in real life. But he just has so much presence and such a great voice, he can really pull off that "regal" vibe. He does a fantastic job playing another noble/royal character; He was the voice actor for Emperor Emhyr var Emreis in The Witcher 3. (Edit: Saw your name, you probably already know that 😂🤦♀️ I love watching let's plays! Especially by older people, since I'm older myself. Just subbed! Always nice to meet another "old" gamer!)
and just an incredible actor, and an absolutely perfect pick to be Tywin. i enjoyed his character and performance in The Imitation Game as much as i did in GoT.
And he did this scene without any previous butchering experience, just a quick crash course before filming, if I recall correctly. Truly one of my favourite actors in the show, even if he plays a Lannister.
actually, he said in interviews that the show runners made a butcher show him how to skin the deer.... after having asked him if he was a vegetarian x'D
These 2 are now easily some of my favorite reactors on UA-cam. I look forward to each upload now. Can't wait for more and I love the rate in which they're uploaded.
Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish could have helped Ned to become protector of of the realm. But he decided not to, maybe because Ned is too honorable... So he told Cercei about Ned's plans and she payed the royal guards to protect her and Joffrey. Littlefingers gain out of this is, that he is now a valuable and loyal friend of the King.
Cersei didn’t need to pay the city watch, because they were already in Baelish‘s pocket. He is paying them as master of coin, not the Lannisters. Janos Slynt is his man, not Cersei‘s. Without Baelish, Slynt wouldn’t even be commander.
He could but considering Ned lacked the skills to be a player in the game of thrones, it was better for Baelish that he was out of the picture. But to be fair with Littlefinger, Ned was very dumb. If he had done what Littlefinger told him to do - drop the idea and support Joffrey as king - maybe this wouldn't have happened. Varys also didn't care for Ned because well, Ned's idea wasn't the best thing for the good of the realm.
Most of what follows for at least the next few seasons stems from Ned being too straightforward and honourable (or dumb, depending on how you view it ;) to play the game well. Littlefinger on the other hand is a _consummate_ player, whatever we might think of him.
City Watch doesn't belong to a house it belongs to the crown. Baelish is Master of Coin and controls the finances. So he paid the watch to turn against Ned and support Jeoffrey. The men at front in Gold armour were the King's Guard. They protect whoever is on the throne irrespective of the House. Whereas Houses also command their own armies. The Lannister army is with Jaime and Tywin. Starks are in the North. The Starks in King's Landing have been killed. Hope that clears some confusion.
Tywin Lannister strikes me as the ultimate bad-ass of his day. But none of his kids got all his gifts. It's like they each got one: Cersei got his conniving, devious nature, Jamie got his fight skills, Tyrion got his intelligence. I do like Steven's bright-side attitude to a character's death. "Welp, don't need to remember that name anymore!" Trooth!!
Speaking of names, you may have missed Jorah's last name was mentioned as Mormont. They also mention the leader of the Night's Watch is Lord Mormont (Jorah's daddy).
I love Sam on his own merit, but also because he's one of the few people who can make Jon laugh. I love the way you guys bounce your ideas off of each other. Good job!! 😊❤️
LoklithixJJ Yeah, there’s definitely a bit of ‘Lordly Hubris’ going on 🤨 I love Eddard, but he tried playing it a little too honorable in this instance.
I'm telling you, I'm not sure if she's just that good of an actress or is she really is Cersei in real life. She plays Cersei so well that I forget I am watching an actress. With everyone else my brain, somewhere way back there, is like "this isn't real". With her, I'm like "oh it's a documentary". Lol
Even fans that dont like Tywin Lannister will admit that he is an impressive character. The character Osha, who talked to Theon, is a wilding from north of the wall. Crafty Osha...🦉
Fun fact for you nikki: the stag that tywin lannister was skinning in the first scene is actually real. The actor had learned how to skin a stag just the day before and had only one chance to pull it off in this scene, after it was over he said that the smell of the dead stag didn't leave his hands for a week 🤢
The succession after Robert should go like this. Any children he has with Cersei. Given that that is no one, we move on to his brothers. Then Stannis, who you haven't met yet. Stannis is the middle son. Then Renly, who is the man talking to Ned after Ned writes the will. Renly is the youngest brother of the three. Littlefinger gave Ned a plan, Ned didn't like it, so Littlefinger turned on him. Dothraki only fear salt water. They fear any water their horses won't drink.
Your reactions to this episode was amazing, and I can not wait to see your reactions to the end of what was an amazing first season when you get that far. Seeing it again through your eyes is an amazing thing, and I am loving being able to take this journey with you.
Remember the Stag is the symbol of House Baratheon. Tywin slaughtering the stag is even more meaningful than in episode one where the Dire Wolf of Stark and the Stag kill each other.
Renly is Robert's youngest brother. Stannis is the rightful heir, but you haven't met him in the show yet. Robert has 20+ bastard children, but since none of them have been royally named, none of them have a rightful claim to the throne. Also, Jorah got the royal pardon because he had initially been spying on Dany and her brother. It's something they mention during a small council meeting earlier on in the season, but it's easy to forget, especially when you don't really know names yet. He has since changed his mind and become loyal to Dany. And unfortunately for Nikki, if a dead animal is used as a prop piece in this show, it's very likely a real dead animal. Charles Dance had to learn how to butcher a real deer before shooting that scene, because he was really butchering a dead deer.
You should be making comments that explain characters and their backgrounds so they can learn this when they watch future episodes. Basically you are spoiling future episodes.
Fun fact, the young Dothraki Rakharo (always hanging out with Khaleesi and Jorah Mormont) has his own tv show now where he plays a genius level tech support guy subcontracted by the government. He’s pretty hilarious.
😂😂 “Just as I was starting to feel good about everything, they hit us with this.” This show is a Succubus that grows in strength. She’s captivating and thrilling, and she WILL definitely tear your heart out... often.
another early morning reaction! bruh, i know it's 2.20AM there, get the hell to bed! thank you two for keeping these up =) it's nice re-experiencing GoT.
Miguel Gordillo videos don't always go up right when they're uploaded by the user. Atleast it was that way a couple years ago. I listened to a podcast where a UA-camr on it said it could take up to 12 hours for the videos to appear on UA-cam.
"They follow the one that pays them". Littlefinger is the "money-guy" of the King's council. So that was saying the Watch follows him, because he makes sure they get their salaries.
To transcribe an interview with Charles Dance (Tywin) : - There was a really good scene, and it was quite long, where you were just sort of happily gutting and skinning a deer. It really looked like you'd done it before. Had you ? - No, i hadn't done it before. I spent an hour with a butcher, who came in with a dead animal and some very sharp knives, and showed me what to do. And then the next day we shot the scene. But it was quite interesting, because Dan and David (the producers) came to me a week or so before we did this and said : Charles, are you a vegetarian ? And i said, no, why do you ask ? Well, we've written a scene. They gave me the scene, and i thought "oh my god". The source interview (contains spoilers) : ua-cam.com/video/qEzpu4H9gGg/v-deo.html
You've at last met one of my favorite GOT characters, and one of the great all time TV characters, Tywin Lannister. You'll soon note that whatever scene he's in, whoever he's with, your eyes will always follow Charles Dance.
The funny thing is it that it was an actual animal that they we're skinning, the production told the actor how to do it. If you think about it the stag is the symbol of the house baratheon, is like a methaform for the fact that the lannister have more power that the king.
The Dothraki don't fear water unless it is salt water. The sea is salt water and this is why they won't cross; not because it is the 'end of the world' but because they think it is cursed, mainly because the horses can't drink it.
It’s always more fun to figure stuff out on your own. Even if there were hints or clues in previous episodes, let them piece it together. There are tons of hints and clues everywhere for pretty much everything if you think about it and are looking for them cause you’re watching the series over again. Let them put the pieces together on their own 😁
I like this! I understand that people want to be helpful and explain a few things, and mostly these are benign (like 'Renly is Roberts younger brother'), but too easily information is divulged that shouldn't have been, with good intentions. I've seen one or two lines in here that Nikki & Steven hopefully have missed..
If he'd taken Renly's advice, things would have been a lot better now. Renly would have made a far better king than Stannis. I'd explain why, but...spoilers. They haven't experienced Stannis yet.
Oddly enough, I think things would've turned out better if he'd taken Littlefinger's advice. I think Ned would make for a good balance between Stanis and Renly. He's been in enough wars to know a lot about them and when they are and are not necessary.
I think a common misconception is that Petyr would have betrayed Ned either way. I don't believe that to be the case at this juncture, Petyr gave Ned the cleanest out possible; he likely had other plans for him and was giving genuine advice in this instance. Petyr is all about creating opportunities and exploiting them to his own benefit. Renly is affable, eager to please and naive; he deeply desires to be a just and beloved king. He'd be far more likely to yield a steady alliance to Petyr's interests than Cersei; who is incredibly unstable by comparison. The choice between the two functionally represented the same personality-gulf as what we saw between Joffrey and Tommen. (stubborn, stupid, & sadistic vs friendly, naive, & kind) The whole ordeal was ultimately a loaded proposal, though, as Petyr knew Ned would absolutely never go along with murdering Stannis.
MiekeMoore but to clarify to Nikki, I think it's important to know that no deer or animal was harmed in the making of these scenes. what they do it work with company's that clean up road kill and already dead animals! but yes it's a real deer :)
Viserys, Dany's bro who got the golden crown, also raised his sword while they were in Vaes Dothrak. That's the only city or a permanent residence of the Dothraki since they're all nomadic-like people. That's also a sanctuary for the Dothraki's and the only place in their world were weapons and fighting is not allowed. So he had it coming in more than one way.
I think it was less about Viserys pulling the sword in the sacred place and more about the fact that he put the sword tip to Dany's belly and threatened their unborn son (the future Khal) that Drogo considered an unpardonable act. Dany's stone-cold expression at that moment told us she and Drago were of the same mind about Viserys: This fool needs to die!
Jorah was spying on Danny for Varys as one of his little birds. The pardon he received let him know his work was done which meant an attempt was gonna be made on her life. Jorah changed his mind and saved her.
You guys showed up on my recommended, and I watched through all your GoT reactions today. Seen the whole show like 4 or 5 times, and now I get to do it again with you guys!
Episode 5 - Ned Stark: You want to assassinate a girl because the Spider heard a rumor? Varys: No rumor, My Lord. The princess is with child. Ned Stark: Based on whose information? Varys: Ser Jorah Mormont. He is serving as adviser to the Targaryens. Varys informed Ned that the crown had employed Jorah to spy on Daenerys and Viserys (as they were a natural threat to the Seven Kingdoms and the reign of house Baratheon).
Guys, don't be too quick to jump to conclusions. Even with all that went down there are still some things yet to be revealed. There are still a lot of things to understand. So just know to keep watching and reserve your conclusions until later. Peace!!!
Y'all two are one of the best GoT reaction channels there has ever been... And it's still so early on. I hope you guys are able to keep pumping out these videos as quickly as you have been. Some people seem to benefit from taking more time so they can digest the information, but y'all are clearly smart enough and quick enough and attentive enough to pick up on all the details just the way you've been going. Also, idk if anyone has pointed it out yet, but it's funny to me how much you guys like Khal Drogo and Daenerys, because I think you two could probably do the whole cosplay thing very well as those two.
Emil Brants There a few good ones currently going through the series. My favs would be... -Motels on Mars (I believe they are at the beginning of season 3 right now.) It is a couple, probably in their 40s... They are absolutely hilarious, and their friend does the editing and is also very funny. The editing is top-notch and keeps you laughing throughout the whole video. The only downside is they only post one per week, and you can't help yourself from wanting MORE lol -Fear of Reactions TV 2.0 ... This guy's name is Day Day, he is funny also and a sweetheart. He's on Season 6 episode 8 right now, and is definitely invested in the story like you like to see. Also posts 2-3 videos per week, which is nice. -Anything Petersen Reacts ... This is a young guy, I believe from Denmark. Very very smart, and does pretty in-depth reviews for each episode. Again, very invested in the show and understands everything pretty quickly like Nikki and Steven. And he is up to Season 7 episode 5 right now. Those three, along with this one, are the best ones that are still watching. And all of them beat Blindwave, IMO. I watch the Rick Reacts series, but I don't necessarily click on the notification right away, like I do with all of these. Calvin was entertaining to watch when he was going through the series with Eric, but Calvin gets so much stuff wrong while he's leading Rick and Lessa through the series. It makes me cringe sometimes, because they are smart enough to know certain things or remember certain things, and Calvin "corrects them" with wrong information lol... Can get irritating sometimes. If you want a few suggestions for channels that are already finished with the series, I can give them to you too. But if you need some good ones to watch, those above would be a good place to start.
Motel on Mars is the third I follow nowadays. forgot the name of the channel. Will check those other two you recommended out, though don't want to do too much channels. I do that with TFS anime parodies, Avatar last Airbender or Epic Rap Battles of History. When it comes to GOT 3-5 React channels is enough ^^ Pity you can't find any channels reacting to Deadwood. probably because to difficult editing the cursing XD
Alpha Wolf Reacts is a good channel as well. He's currently in season 5. The quality for the first 4 episodes isn't super great, but gets much better in episode 5. ua-cam.com/video/6b6tIk4NWyY/v-deo.html JuliDG is another fun channel. She just started season 7. ua-cam.com/video/owJqfh-p7Lk/v-deo.html
Marcusinmilw Yes, Alpha Wolf is the one I knew I was forgetting. Thank you. JuliDG... Ehhh not trying to be a dick, it's just my opinion, but she can get on my nerves sometimes with how much she talks over important scenes and dialogue.
Actually, the butchering of the deer is (surprisingly) real. Charles Dance, ( the actor playing Tywin Lannister) was trained by a real butcher, prior to the filming of this scene.
The deer skinning was also a metaphor, Tywin is the alpha male skinning the deer, even though Robert is King Baratheon sidule is the stag Tywin is the Lion
Nikki, the Lannisters must tread carefully with Ned because he’s the Warden of the North, one of the largest kingdoms. Hurting the ruling Lord might stir A LOT OF TROUBLE, since the North was independant for a millenium. That could be an act of war. But sure, they need him to retract his revelations.
Not to mention he was friend with the Baratheons, he was son in law of the lord of the riverlands and brother in law of the lady of the Vale... So practically he had 4 of the seven kingdoms to relly on. And Dorne absolutelly hated the Lanisters for the killing of their princess and her children when Kings Landing fell.
Don't worry about being confused sometimes. It's part of the show. Figuring out who everybody is and how everything fits together is one of the reasons why this show is so awesome. BTW if you think Khal Drago is scary now, wait until he starts talking to fish
I'am a big cat fan i love when your cat sticks his face in frame! Another great reaction, you both are great and i love watching your videos. Can't wait for the next one!
Littlefinger's job for the kingdom is "Master of Coin." He manages the finances and makes sure all the guards get paid on time, etc. That's why they listened to him.
Explanation of the Jorah Pardon: (No Spoiler). It was a pardon by King Robert, forgiving him for his crimes (unspecified so far), because he did spy work on the Targaryens for the Baratheons / Lannisters.
So the pardon did not have anything to do with "protection". Basically Jorah was a spy, and what the poison scene wanted to show is that he switched sides though and prefers to actually help Daenerys, even though initially he was a spy.
His crime was specified. He caught some thieves on Bear Island and tried to sell them as slaves. Ned found out about it and tried to catch him and then execute.
The crimes were specified earlier by Jorah when he was telling Viserys why he was in Essos, he tells him Ned Stark was going to kill him and he fled (remember Viserys says in episode 2 that when he's king he won't punish slave owners or something like that)., This is why we know something is kind of weird when they announce Dany is pregnant and they tell Jorah and he's like "I have to go write...". Then a few episodes later (a couple earlier than this one). when the council gets news from Jorah that Dany's having a baby (episode 5), Ned is skeptical about the news because Jorah's a criminal and he doesn't think they should trust his word. Varys assures him its true and that he's spying for them.
2:42 ... Hope you guys note the symbolism of a Lannister ( a Lion) skinning a Stag (The Baratheon Sigil). The beginning of the end was when Bran fell out of the window.
Robert Baratheon has two brothers, Renley who says he should be king, and Stannis, who we haven't seen yet. It gets confusing when they mention characters you haven't met. You will.
It was a real deer that Tywin skinned. And Stephen, you’re close. The Dothraki think that the water is poison because their horses won’t drink it. But it’s just salt water.
Another great reaction guys! You've only just begun! Cannot wait for the rest of this season and beyond to see your reactions! As has been mentioned: Charles Dance is just the boss as Tywin Lannister. He delivers some of the best lines in this series.
You guys calling Circe terrifying amuses me. I can't wait for the future. Just incase you missed what Baelish(Littlefinger) said: "I warned you not to trust me" which goes back to when he first arrived there he said "Not trusting me was the wisest things you did since you got off your horse" Funfact I heard about the Dothraki: They fear the world will end because of grass, It is why they are horse lords to control the grass.
I'm so happy you're both enjoying the show! It just keeps getting better, and better. And although I say try to catch and remember as much information as possible, at the same time - don't stress over it, things unravel and fall into place, and you'll soon learn how to keep up :) And I love Nikki hopping on board the Daenerys train too!
Jorah was spying on Dany and sending all information to kings landing, so as she was supposed to die, he was to come home with a pardon as a reward for his services, but he changed his mind and saved her, and stayed with her.
It wasn't a spoiler. In a scene earlier this season,, where the council meets they say that Jorah was spying and that's how news came to the council that she had a child, remember? Then Ned says "are you going to trust a criminal?" or something like that (since he's the one that exiled him, which Jorah already mentioned when talking to Viserys in episode two). Varys says he's spying on Dany for the crown. It was the scene where Ned and Robert argue and Ned renounces himself as hand of the king.
@ivanjoecro -- but what you stated hasn't been revealed yet. At this point, the audience only knows he just received a pardon, but doesn't know WHY he got a pardon yet. @crazycatlady is right. Your post is a spoiler.
I've watched all the episodes so far, but it's so awesome to watch new fans of the show! Love your channel! I wish you guys had the time to do two-a-days.
It's so much fun to see you guys get confused and trying to make sense of things..aww...innocent you guys❤😍 Haha..am loving your reactions😍😍 I just hope no1 ever spoils anything for you guys!!!
I've just subbed and can wait for you guys to get through the seasons. There is a reason why this is the most watched TV show in the world and if you think this season is intense the first season is probably the slowest least intense season.
When Littlefinger made the comment "they listen to the man that pays them" he was basically telling Ned that the City Watch (they're like police) were paid by him and that would guarantee the City Watch would help backup Ned when he faced off with Cersei. Viserys was Dany's brother that got crowned🤣🤣🔥🔥
+solgnaleb Ah, OK, I see, thanks (though that could easily be fixed by removing or editing the question and leaving only Dance's answer, which would still be a very good quote...)
Littlefinger is the "Master of Coin" which means he is the royal accountant. So everyone that works for the king gets payed by Littlefinger even though technically the money is the kings.
1)Dany's brother was named Viserys. Varys is a bald man (eunuch) on king Robert's counsel. He is also called the Spider because he manages an enormous network of spies all over the world. 2) Jorah was working for Varys and was spying on Dany and her brother. If you remember, when servant girl told Jorah and young Dothraki that Dany want's something different to eat because she's pregnant, Jorah instantly took off to send message to Westeros. 3) The scene with Cercei and Ned in garden also points out that Jaime tried to kill Bran not just to protect his secret, but his entire family. If Robert found out about him and Cercei and figured out about the kids, he would have all Lanisters killed, even the kids. So Jaime had to choose between a life of a 10 year old kid he just met and the lives of his sister/lover, his 3 children, his father and his own. This doesn't excuse Jaime, but it does show that he had a good reason and wasn't just being cruel and callous.
Ned would have been the second Stark to rule as regent if little finger hadn't betrayed him, his great great great great grandfather Cregan Stark serverd as regent after the Targaryen civil war.
Hey Nikki and Steven, started watching when I came across your cobra kai reactions and seen you also started stranger things. Have watched all of game of thrones and Westworld but it's fun watching you two react, keep up the videos!
I look forward to seeing your videos every day! So much information was provided in the episode and will unravel bit by bit later. GoT plays with everyones emotions. There's definitely a Love/Hate relationship but it's such a good show that you can't stop watching! :)
Ned made three mistakes: First, showing Cersei mercy. Second, not taking Renly's advice to seize the throne from Cersei and Joffery. The worst mistake he made was trusting Littlefinger(despite being warned not to by the man himself).
He was an honorable idiot. He is still the best stand up guy in the series though.
@@gideondavid30 he wasn’t an idiot he just made a bunch of bad choices
@@Tkk861 Idiot in the sense that he was naive about the political arena he participated in. He underestimated his political opponents. If you are in a pit full of snakes, it is probably wise to respect their crafiness and learn how to deal with them.
@Neverland Then again, it is only a book of fiction.
@Neverland Yes, it is a good but incomplete series.
It's not just any animal Tywin Lannister skinned. It's a stag. The sigil of House Baratheon.
minski76 And it was a real stag, not a prop.
omg you're right, what a badass entrance. I fucking love this show
fuckin hell mate, that's intense
It had to be a fairly recent kill also. Otherwise, it wouldn't have skinned that easily
and its real
"She's terrifying" that's a very solid way to discribe Cercei in one word.
4 years and nobody had the upsmanshiplike temptation to say 'two words, you mean?'
@@enclaveherewhyisntyourvide3089 The word is "terrifying". One word
Not just any animal - a stag. I just love the symbolism in this show.
Judymoe yeah.. not many people get that at first.
There was a deleted scene from another episode, where Tywin was catching and cleaning fish (Tully). Sad that it was removed from the episode.
Lannister skinning Baratheon
Renly Baratheon is Robert's youngest brother.
Yes, they were confusing him with Gendry. It should be noted that nobody knows about Robert's eldest at this moment besides Ned.
Ned and Renly were talking about Stannis in this episode.
If Bran can’t be lord of Winterfell before me, then Renly can’t be king before Stannis, do you mean us to declare us for Stannis? 😉
That is why when Ned wrote the will, he put rightful heir and not Joffreys name
littlefinger is master of coin in kings landing, so he is in charge of paying the city watch, that's why they listen to him.
ivanjoecro - yup, surprised they missed that...and it's kind of obvious from the context of Littlefinger's speeches...
No Robert is the oldest brother hence he is the king.
No, Robert's eldest son would be heir to the throne (once a king has a son the monarch's brothers don't count - I say "king", "son" and "brothers" BTW because in GoT the line of succession is purely patrilineal whereas in our world many monarchies allow female heirs too).
It goes Robert - Stannis - Renly
Stannis looks older than Robert
Anon Ymes that is not true, bastards cannot inherit unless they are legitimised by royal decree. Therefore making stannis the rightful king
The deer-scene at the beginning was not fake. It was a real deer. And Charles Dance (Tywin "Daddy" Lannister) got lessons in butchering just for doing it right in this scene. I mean, you eat meat, right? Someone has to do the job.
Funnysterste I never understood why people think it’s disgusting
Funnysterste yep, venison is delicious.
Many things can be disgusting if you are not used to it.
*Tywin "daddy" Lannister?* 😂😂😂
i was totally fascinated by that scene myself wheni first watched it and was curious if it was real or not.
OK, so here's what happened in King's Landing:
- Ned, being honourable, warned Cersei (who, knowing he wouldn't get it, warned him back).
And _meanwhile,_ across the Narrow Sea:
- Ser Jorah, who had been spying on Dany and Viserys for Varys, received Robert's pardon (issued earlier in the season when Ned quit after Robert refused to spare Dany's life), allowing him to return to Westeros (he explained how he was exiled for selling poachers as slaves back in episode 4) now that the last Targaryen was about to die.
You made a mistake in your third point. You referred to Renly as Ned’s younger brother. He’s Roberts younger brother.
This reminds me of Littlefinger's recap of season 6 lol
+Melissa Vukelic edited, thanks!
I think stating Jorah as spy is I guess a spoiler for some? In my case, I didnt know he’s the spy until Ser Barristan figured.
If I remember correctly, that dead stag was real. The actor (Charles Dance) said his hands reeked after doing it
and just an incredible actor, and an absolutely perfect pick to be Tywin. i enjoyed his character and performance in The Imitation Game as much as i did in GoT.
It was a real deer. It was found the day before on the road. Hit by a car and killed, so they used it for this scene.
Do0msday Thank you, we appreciate that!
Totally agree
Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish could have helped Ned to become protector of of the realm. But he decided not to, maybe because Ned is too honorable... So he told Cercei about Ned's plans and she payed the royal guards to protect her and Joffrey. Littlefingers gain out of this is, that he is now a valuable and loyal friend of the King.
Chaos is a ladder.
Cersei didn’t need to pay the city watch, because they were already in Baelish‘s pocket. He is paying them as master of coin, not the Lannisters. Janos Slynt is his man, not Cersei‘s. Without Baelish, Slynt wouldn’t even be commander.
His motivation is also to get Ned out of the way so that he can have Cat.
Real deer. Sorry. lol Tywin is such a bad ass. I cannot wait till you get to know him.
Tywin might be the best character in the show. Charles Dance was made for the part.
@@2catgumbo Pretty much, I don't know in the books but on the show he is the best written/acted character.
Good job!! 😊❤️
Ned has too much honor and was blinded by it, excited for the last few episodes, love you guys! :)
Lol
Allyson Wonderland..she absolutely kills it
Even fans that dont like Tywin Lannister will admit that he is an impressive character. The character Osha, who talked to Theon, is a wilding from north of the wall.
Crafty Osha...🦉
Viserys is the dead brother.Varys is the spy master, the bald one.
tarius _
Varys - "My little birds have already taken flight" 😉
Its ok... took me forever to remember that little shits name...then he died, lol.
Cereal Guy ugh real, damn. At least they're authentic! Thank you! - Nikki
That was Robert's brother not son.
Remember the Stag is the symbol of House Baratheon. Tywin slaughtering the stag is even more meaningful than in episode one where the Dire Wolf of Stark and the Stag kill each other.
Tywin is the type of person you love purely because Charles Dance is an amazing actor
The Ashrook is that show still going?
😂😂 “Just as I was starting to feel good about everything, they hit us with this.”
This show is a Succubus that grows in strength.
Lol yep, Steven uploads as soon as he's done editing, he usually gets to bed around 3am Pacific time 😁😁😁😁 - Nikki
"They follow the one that pays them". Littlefinger is the "money-guy" of the King's council. So that was saying the Watch follows him, because he makes sure they get their salaries.
To transcribe an interview with Charles Dance (Tywin) :
- There was a really good scene, and it was quite long, where you were just sort of happily gutting and skinning a deer.
The deer that Tywin was skinning was real. So, yeah, the actor was actually skinning a deer in that scene
I love these weekday GOT postings so much lmao
The funny thing is it that it was an actual animal that they we're skinning, the production told the actor how to do it. If you think about it the stag is the symbol of the house baratheon, is like a methaform for the fact that the lannister have more power that the king.
And, the bastards have no rights to anything, if the mother isn't marry officially they're children don't have any right.
Littlefinger is the master of coin for the crown. He also owns side businesses including a brothel and he owns many spies. He's on his own side.
Just think if Ned had taken some advice from Renly or Baelish...
If he'd taken Renly's advice, things would have been a lot better now. Renly would have made a far better king than Stannis. I'd explain why, but...spoilers. They haven't experienced Stannis yet.
Baelish himself just said not to trust him. But maybe he could have listened to Renly
Oddly enough, I think things would've turned out better if he'd taken Littlefinger's advice. I think Ned would make for a good balance between Stanis and Renly. He's been in enough wars to know a lot about them and when they are and are not necessary.
chris4072511 especially in the books, Renly made so much sense
(stubborn, stupid, & sadistic vs friendly, naive, & kind)
The whole ordeal was ultimately a loaded proposal, though, as Petyr knew Ned would absolutely never go along with murdering Stannis.
It's not fake! The actor who plays Tywin was shown by a butcher how to skin that animal.
MiekeMoore but to clarify to Nikki, I think it's important to know that no deer or animal was harmed in the making of these scenes. what they do it work with company's that clean up road kill and already dead animals! but yes it's a real deer :)
Littlefinger is basically the treasurer for the kingdom, he handles all the gold and official payments like the payment for guards.
I've really gotten hooked on your channel, you guys are great! And i love that you're uploading videos of my favorite shows daily.
Shedding blood is not allowed khal Drogo did not shed blood....loopholes lol
Jorah was spying on Danny for Varys as one of his little birds. The pardon he received let him know his work was done which meant an attempt was gonna be made on her life. Jorah changed his mind and saved her.
You guys showed up on my recommended, and I watched through all your GoT reactions today. Seen the whole show like 4 or 5 times, and now I get to do it again with you guys!
Hey, thats awesome, thanks for joining us! - Nikki
"When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die". Remember those lines!
That was a real deer being skinned at the start, they had a professional butcher give Charles Dance instructions.
What other GOT reaction channel you like? For me Blind Waves Rick React is my fav. (though Calvin is awful as their guide). This channel is second.
Emil Brants
There a few good ones currently going through the series.
The only downside is they only post one per week, and you can't help yourself from wanting MORE lol
-Fear of Reactions TV 2.0 ...
The quality for the first 4 episodes isn't super great, but gets much better in episode 5. ua-cam.com/video/6b6tIk4NWyY/v-deo.html
JuliDG is another fun channel. She just started season 7. ua-cam.com/video/owJqfh-p7Lk/v-deo.html
Marcusinmilw
Yes, Alpha Wolf is the one I knew I was forgetting. Thank you.
I like how the cat touches Nikki's arm, while she's concerned for the stag.
The deer skinning was also a metaphor, Tywin is the alpha male skinning the deer, even though Robert is King Baratheon sidule is the stag Tywin is the Lion
You guys are awesome. Really genuine. Look forward to watching your journey. Buckle up its just getting started!
Nikki at @4:01: Boom Boom Boom
Nikki at @4:51: She's terrifying..Shit man she gives me the chills.
That's why Cersei is my favourite...
THE largest kingdom
Not to mention he was friend with the Baratheons, he was son in law of the lord of the riverlands and brother in law of the lady of the Vale... So practically he had 4 of the seven kingdoms to relly on. And Dorne absolutelly hated the Lanisters for the killing of their princess and her children when Kings Landing fell.
I just found your channel yesterday you're reactions are awesome keep it up.
How did I not notice that?
Melissa Vukelic Bella pops in at min 2:45 - Nikki
Littlefinger's job for the kingdom is "Master of Coin." He manages the finances and makes sure all the guards get paid on time, etc. That's why they listened to him.
"That little tool is gonna be sitting on the throne??" Best. Reaction. Ever. Dany/Drogo forever
welcome to the first car of the wildest roller coaster ride you'll ever get on.
Tywin Lannister, what an introduction. He's something.
Robert Baratheon has two brothers, Renley who says he should be king, and Stannis, who we haven't seen yet. It gets confusing when they mention characters you haven't met. You will.
Cersei : if that's right, if you don't know who I am, may be your best course would be to tread lightly...
Tywen is really smart. Not evil, just pragmatic.
It was a real deer that Tywin skinned. And Stephen, you’re close. The Dothraki think that the water is poison because their horses won’t drink it. But it’s just salt water.
LOL. I'm going to love the lightbulb moments as just much as I love your current state of confusion. 😂
Another great reaction guys! You've only just begun! Cannot wait for the rest of this season and beyond to see your reactions! As has been mentioned: Charles Dance is just the boss as Tywin Lannister. He delivers some of the best lines in this series.
"Is Robert gonna die", oh their innocence is precious....Lol
You guys calling Circe terrifying amuses me. I can't wait for the future.
Just incase you missed what Baelish(Littlefinger) said: "I warned you not to trust me" which goes back to when he first arrived there he said "Not trusting me was the wisest things you did since you got off your horse"
Funfact I heard about the Dothraki: They fear the world will end because of grass, It is why they are horse lords to control the grass.
Things are about to heat up! RIP King Robert Baratheon!
I'm so happy you're both enjoying the show! It just keeps getting better, and better. And although I say try to catch and remember as much information as possible, at the same time - don't stress over it, things unravel and fall into place, and you'll soon learn how to keep up :)
And I love Nikki hopping on board the Daenerys train too!
Jorah got the pardon for informing on Danerys to the crown, so he was betraying her the whole time. When he saved her, he was betraying the crown.
Jorah was spying on Dany and sending all information to kings landing, so as she was supposed to die, he was to come home with a pardon as a reward for his services, but he changed his mind and saved her, and stayed with her.
amm that's a bit of a spoiler, it wasn't explained like that yet, they could figure it out themselves later
nothing i said is for future episodes, everything can happen still, this is just until this point :)

I love waking up to your reactions!!! Oh and Renly is actually Roberts youngest brother. They also mentioned Stannis who is the middle brother
Side note: It wasn't fake :)
I've just subbed and can wait for you guys to get through the seasons. There is a reason why this is the most watched TV show in the world and if you think this season is intense the first season is probably the slowest least intense season.
Heh, close. Dany's brother is named Viserys. Varys is the bald guy in King's Landing, known as the Spider, the spymaster.
Ahh thank you, I'll fix my notes - Nikki
When Littlefinger made the comment "they listen to the man that pays them" he was basically telling Ned that the City Watch (they're like police) were paid by him and that would guarantee the City Watch would help backup Ned when he faced off with Cersei. Viserys was Dany's brother that got crowned🤣🤣🔥🔥
Actually he was skinning a real deer😋
Stag
+solgnaleb What's spoilery about that..?
+solgnaleb Ah, OK, I see, thanks (though that could easily be fixed by removing or editing the question and leaving only Dance's answer, which would still be a very good quote...)
I’m soooo happy to watch your reactions of got ~! One new subscriber from France
Littlefinger is the "Master of Coin" which means he is the royal accountant. So everyone that works for the king gets payed by Littlefinger even though technically the money is the kings.
Littlefinger is sneaky, but he's so good at it he became one of my favorite characters.
I love Sam too, Steven. He may not be a fighter, but he contributes in his own way. Plus, he is genuinely a GOOD guy.
Yay! Another one already! You guys are freaking superstars.
Varys and LF point blank told him he's being spied upon, LF actually pointed three of them out.
And we appreciate you back!
Hey Nikki and Steven, started watching when I came across your cobra kai reactions and seen you also started stranger things. Have watched all of game of thrones and Westworld but it's fun watching you two react, keep up the videos!
Thank you for the dedication!!!! - Nikki
I look forward to seeing your videos every day! So much information was provided in the episode and will unravel bit by bit later. GoT plays with everyones emotions. There's definitely a Love/Hate relationship but it's such a good show that you can't stop watching! :)
