      Could not agree more. Rolex doesn’t make a bad watch but it’s too much of a status symbol. They are at least 25% overpriced. Omega is equal if not better in every way.

      Buy once, cry once… especially given the prices for the aforementioned watch brands. -2 and +2 seconds per day for a period of 5 years, Vs 0 to +5 seconds per day. Omega should probably be compared with other brands. Rolex really can’t be compared especially given availability and affordability at the retail level.

    Yea I just bought this in 43.5, black bezel & black leather/rubber strap. I have an Omega ‘57 and a nice Oris 65 Divers Chrono also. They are nice, especially the ‘57, but the Planet Ocean is on a totally different level. Superb.

    Great video mate. Thought would chime in as I've owned this model/spec piece since 2017. What you said is exactly on point. I have worn my daily, and when I mean worn daily, I've spent months with it camping across the Nullarbor, take it in the ocean 2-3 times a week and worn it weddings and work every day with business shirts/cuffs. As I don't rotate watches I don't really notice the weight after a few days, but agree it is a bit thick for it's relatively modest dimensions. And personally would have taken a caseback to shave off a 1mm as is a bit chunky. But the engineering/specifications of this is incredble. Never serviced either and runs fine 6 years in (service interval is 8 years I think). I've got a few scratches on the polished part of the case, but bezel is like new. One issue I had in the first few years was the He screw came loose a few times, and once I noticed it only as I was stepping into the water! Since then I cranked it super tight and hasn't come loose in 4-5 years. The braclet is a bit chunky but super smooth on the wrist, a screw has never come out and been super robust. And I'm never buying a braclet without glidelock/quick adjust feature now. Also when I bought it, came in a unisex style box with red ribbon, while 41 and 44mm versions came in the big 'masculine' wood box. Not sure if that has changed or is an issue for you, but did annoy me a tad as was my first luxury watch. This was back in the 'big watch' era, the sales person kept bothering me why getting a watch to small. But glad I stuck to instincts as it is the perfect size for me, despite been over 6' tall wears well and not flashy. Otherwise incredible watch, probably due for an overhaul soon. Fingers crossed for a titanium version in the near future since that is in vogue and could help the weight situation here. Tried on a new submariner a couple weeks ago, didn't do anything for me, and certainly not $15k worthy. If you like this, get it.

    Spectacular! I've always lusted for a high-end Seamaster and watches like this are exactly why. That clasp is gigantic, haha, look how thick the sides are!

    I have the 43.5mm model with the black ceramic dial and bezel, I love it so much. I wear it everyday and I noticed I was putting some scratches in the bracelet clasp just from resting my arms on tables etc, so to preserve the bracelet I took it off and replaced it with an Omega black and orange rubber dive strap, it also looks amazing the black with orange trim of the strap compliments the black ceramic dial and bezel and the orange Seamaster logo on the dial and orange tip to the seconds hand, and it also makes the watch considerably lighter to wear.

    • @ats-3693
      @ats-3693 3 місяці тому

      @@ernestothegod Personally I'm so glad I went with black it looks fantastic, the black contrasts really well with the hours markers and watch hands, and with the polished and brushed stainless steel case. And also it was easy to choose a rubber strap that suited the black dial. I really only changed to the strap from the bracelet so I could put the bracelet away and keep it looking new, I notice with me and my watches it's always the bracelet and clasp that start getting worn looking and scratched first, but I love the way the rubber dive strap looks I'm in no hurry to go back to the bracelet.

    • @Troy211
      @Troy211 3 роки тому

      I'm a welder also, why would you ever wear this watch while welding? A single spark will tear this watch up not to mention having a steel bracelet around your wrist and electricity in your hands. I've got a permanent ring around my wrist from getting hit with electricity that wouldn't have happened if I didn't have a steel watch on. Just like wearing polyester and welding, you can do it but one day you're going to pay for it. Do yourself a favor and keep the metal off your wrist at work.

    • @constantinehatzis2807
      @constantinehatzis2807 3 роки тому

      @@Troy211 Been welding for at least 35 years, I wear full PPE, including Kevlar arm and hand protection. As for the watch, that's all it is and l like to see what extremes it can handle. As far as my watch is concerned, it's there to be worn and used, not sat in the box. It's survived many high frequency zaps over the years and so have I.
      I do take my watch off when I'm doing heavy hammering and dressing of weld preps, I do have mechanical sympathy for my watch.
      Thanks for your concern for me and my watch.
      Take care.

    Yeah, Omega are a great and still somewhat underrated brand overall. With QC superior to Rolex, going on for a few years now. Which is more to do with Rolex becoming a bit lax in that department while Omega remain consistent. I was shocked to see the QC issues with many contemporary Rolex’s in a number of reviews recently. From misaligned chapter rings (Seiko style!) to loose rotating bezels and rough finishing on dial indices and hands visible via macro, as well as occasional on-dial detritus such as dust. All of this has tarnished my view of what was once one of my top 5 watch brands. Going back to Omega again...they offer all this excellentness 😆 for considerably less outlay than Rolex too...when purchased new or preowned.

      Bruh i agree got a new exp2 from AD: misaligned bezel, misaligned DIAL (minute track touches rehaut on one side and doesn't on the other, cyclops barely crooked, i'd say hour hand is 2 min slow too but that's nitpicky). My omegas don't have these issues. Rolex doesn't give a shit about their customers. Oh and RSC watchmaker recommended to wait until service because, granted, the issues are so small that I didn't notice them when paying for it. Just a warning for others 🤠

      @@silverghost4206 You would be surprised to see how many Rolex owners own and appreciate Omega watches since they are not that expensive (specially preowned/grey market) and easy to obtain. I have two Planet Oceans. They are simply beautiful, but not in the same league of my Rolex Deepsea. And that is totally fine. The Deepsea costs almost twice. If you compare the Seamaster 300M with a Submariner...(I own both.). The difference in price doesn't make any sense.

      rolex is manipulating their value by limiting the supply. the price of rolex isn't because of the quality or features, it's because of this limited supply and the brand name. omega is bringing out 100% quality for your money, rolex is 40% quality for the money.

      I have the seamaster 300m in black dial, as well as the new Rolex sub 2020 version. Love the Omega, value for money is ridiculous, compared to Rolex. I did get my Rolex at RP and it does tend to be my daily beater. The rolex sub is just a perfect case size for me, 41mm and 12.5mm thick. The bracelet is far better than the one on my 300m. The clasp is much thinner, and the band, with it's taper to the clasp, is much more comfortable for all day wear, but that's just my opinion. I actually think the details on the Omega exceed those of my Submariner. The ceramic wave dial, as well as the movement are spectacular. The 300m is also my most accurate watch, running at less than +1 second per 3 days fast.

I would have bought the 9900 instead if ONLY they didn't make the dial and bezel so glossy. It's a reflection magnet. At some angles the watch is just a mirror. But the PO is a watch that can ruin you for other watches in your collection. My wedding gift from my wife is the Planet Ocean from 2015 with the 8500 movement. It's a solid piece, details are spectacular and the design is timeless. I wear it pretty much every day and hope to pass it down to my son some day.

    The size of this now where near the Rolex Seadweller. That thing is much thicker piece of metal. Although thick there west more comfortably. I opted for this over the Seamaster 300m because I did not like the bracelet and the dial was just to modern to me. For the price , features and certifications, I think this one is up there with the Submariner for almost half the price.

    I've bought and sold plenty of watches and this is the only sale I regret. All I own now is the new Sea Dweller 43 (not a bad one watch collection) and I need another keeper. This Omega is the one. Agree, the clasp is hideous and anything over 200 grams is silly. This is why the first one I bought and the second one I buy has a rubber strap. It's the same strap as they use on the Deep Black but in blue. Gives the watch a better, more sporty look and is crazy comfortable.

    Too thick and huge for my 6.5 inch wrist. I prefer thinner and lighter watch, but this could be good for someone having big sized arms and wrists. Price wise it is actually a good deal as a luxury watch. At least it is still a better deal than Rolex Submariner, which has inferior quality and you cannot even find it except paying a ridiculous premium at grey markets.

      That the Submariner is just boring at this point.
      At least with Omega if this particular piece doesn't suit you, another will.
      And you'll actually be able to enjoy a true luxury experience when buying it!...As opposed to the Rolex method, 'cause nothing says 'luxury experience' more than being told that you're welcome to join the 'I know that you know that I know that you're never gonna call me' wait list!! 😂
