I was talking to somebody about home and away the other day and I mentioned that the actress who played Pippa (Debra Lawrence) now appears in Neighbours. They went 'who is Pippa'. Shows how far home and away is from its roots. I mean the show was based around the character and now it's like she never existed.
That is sad:(. I rarely watch the show now because it’s not what it used to be. Pippa and Michael were the kind of foster parents everyone would want.😊
Everything eventually goes down the toilet, H&A, neighbours, Eastenders, The Bill and etc. New writers comes and goes, inserting their own ideas nothing wrong with that until it's no longer how it meant to be!
When Debra Lawrence took over from Vanessa Downing I was like noooo but she totally lived up to what I think Pippa's character was exactly supposed to be, warm, loving and wonderful. A wonderful actress she totally takes me back to my misspent youth. I really wanted to live in the Fletcher house so bad I would have cleaned all the caravans inside and out all day everyday for that !
I agree with this. Debra definitely embodied the warmth and maternal "eath mother" side of Pippa. I do however feel that she lost some of her zest and personality that the more quirky and bubbly Vanessa added to the mix.
I think Debra Lawrence was the first choice to play Pippa when the show started but she was unavailable at the time, so they went with Vanessa Downing. Downing was good as Pippa too but I think she left because she missed working with the actor who played Tom.
@@SummerBayJournal Vanessa Downing Pippa made Pippa character more complex character and more denominational but Debra Lawrence was made Pippa more prominent.
@@SummerBayJournal its one the few recasts that worked well Both actress made the character great. Plus I think the fact Deabra's performance wasn't a copy of Vanessa's made it work
Jennifer was played by Kate Raison, best known as Cathy Hayden, the ranger from A Country Practice. This was filmed not long after she finished up on ACP.
I believe Home and Away has changed way too much to the point it lost focus on what its main theme was (foster care), too many of the original cast have gone, and as Debra Lawerence said a while ago, she wouldn't go back as its a completely different show.
They need to have a massive return of heaps of past characters like they did for episode 4000 alf's 60th birthday in 2005. That was the last time a majority of these characters were seen.
@@SummerBayJournal Debra said she would return as guest but not as regular due to not living in Sydney anymore as Debra lives in Melbourne now and Debra said she just misses more older storylines but Debra said too that she completely understands why show had change with times as no one wants to watch anything too simple and Debra never said she would never return but just that theres not really lot reason for Pippa return now.
@@Homeandawayguy Makes sense... Her role would be similar to the one she had in 2009, a temporary carer. Could have worked when Bella was staying with Irene, Pippa could have been called back and looked after Bella.
Pippa was a true icon on home and away she was everything you would want in a foster parent- good fun sensitive Loving and gentle her and Michael were Dream foster Parents it was a Shame when Michael died my heart went out to Pippa losing 2 husbands in such tragic ways is heartbreaking Debra Lawrance also appeared as Liz Conway Sister of Susan Kennedy in NEIGHBOURS WOULD HAVE BEEN GOOD IF SHE HAD CROSSED PATHS WITH REBECCA emalagolou who Plays Terese in Neighbours and also Played Sophie in home and Away
My only frustration was that the good people of Sweden and possibly the other Scandinavian countries were not able to enjoy the early years of this awesome show. Pippa is a very rude word in Swedish...😧
I thought that the original Pippa was quite sweet but the replacement seemed to have more strength and consequently was more believable in the foster parent role. Just my thought.

I completely agree. It's a different show, same brand name. Of all soaps, I believe H&A has changed the most from its roots.

Alf's the only real character left now and even he isn't as vocal as he once was.
@@haydm1509 Tom was a brilliant character in the show too.😊
Aww I loved home and away at this time , not watched it in so many years I’ve heard it’s no where near as good as it used to be

What a character Pippa was in Home & Away! She was great.😊
Agreed! There was only one Pippa (except there was two lol)

And Kate Raison starred in Neighbours as Shaun's mother

Classic H&A was definitely the best! Quite sad how the show has changed so much.
I have the same opinion as Debra. Two different shows with the same name.

Dunno how I'll feel with the change of Pippa actresses and when Michael comes on the scene, become so attached to Tom and Pippa.
Wow forgot about this storyline, and to think that years later he repeated the teacher/student relationship with selina
That's right
One of the storylines that always stood out for me
I especially liked the part where the plastic dolly was sitting on the chair staring at them like Chucky..🤡🤡🥳🥳😂😂😂😂😂🎅🌠🌟🤶🎄🎄
Just been reading about the early years of H&A - read about Lynn Davenport apparently she didn't stay for very long...
i watched this storyline recently i have to say i feel like Pippa was out of line here Steve was almost 18 by this point it's not really her business
I think that's what made it a good story because it wasn't cut and dry who was right or wrong, it was a bit ambiguous.
My only frustration was that the good people of Sweden and possibly the other Scandinavian countries were not able to enjoy the early years of this awesome show. Pippa is a very rude word in Swedish...😧

Lucky Steven 🎉 She don't look that old about 23
Didn't like the replacement of pippa
sorry but the first pippa was better
Who you apologising to lol 😂
She did seem a bit more vibrant and fun. The second one always seems uptight and ill-tempered.
Totally agree.
I loved Debra. I grew up with her as Pippa. I don’t have memories of the first Pippa at all, just seen videos of her on here.
