What a woman. Fabulous stories, great memories of Prisoner and who ever expected her to do a “Daphne” voice at the drop of a hat after all those years! Amazing
Debra Lawrance looks really well and has a good energy about her. It's nice to see how 64 year olds (like Debra and Louise Siversen) these days come across like 44 year olds!
Debra's a real class act 👍I've just binged watched the series "Please Like Me" where Debra play's the part of Rose. That second last episode of the final series had me in tears. Great acting from all the cast.
What a beautiful interview with Debra Lawrence. Such lovely words and sentiments about her former co stars. So amazing to hear how she works as an actress with her preparation and execution of her roles. Thoroughly enjoyed watching and listening to the interview. Well done to all. A lovely lady.
Really enjoyable interview. Debra really takes the care to climb inside the psychology of her characters. Very informative interview from a period of the show that often gets less attention.
@@TalkingPrisoner not really. It’s just a part of the show that gets less attention + I’d be interested to hear from actors during that time when the show was starting to (arguably) struggle before it’s last lease of life when Rita joined.
Yes!! Aww, I have since watched and loved her in PCBH, but I'm a child of the 90s so she'll always be Pippa to me ❤ Going to save this and watch after work tonight, thanks once again guys! Just watched it. This is actually my favourite episode to date! Loved the info about the roof and how she is still so annoyed about the airing - I love when actors are passionate like that about a character/show they've done, particularly 40 years later 🤣 "What if the world didn't prepare for war, but prepared for kindness" Thanks guys and thanks Debra!! 😃
Hi Sky, I think you, me and all the other fans think the same about Debra and always being Pippa to us. Thank you for your kind words. Are you currently watching Prisoner ?
Wonderful interview. This was probably my favourite and most interesting of the Prisoner interviews. Debra is totally fascinating discussing her roles and also the production side of her acting. I did prefer her discussing Home and Away to Prisoner. Mainly as her stint at Home and Away was her longest.
Loved this interview. Debra will always be Pippa for me too as the home and away episodes were aired On the UK well before her long prisoner stint. Pleased to hear she is still in touch with “Sally” met Kate Ritchie on Palm beach and she was lovely.
It's interesting being a Prisoner fan in England and seeing the show as we aired it here on ITV, years after it ended in your beautiful Australia. You'd see an actress like Debra Lawrance in other things first, like in Home and Away, and get so used to her in that role that maybe a year or two later, when she appears on Prisoner, it's a shock that Pippa isn't just Pippa she's also Daphne hehehe
I watched the Prisoner reruns from 2011 (2012 for me) - 2013 on Foxtel, so seeing Debra in Home and Away first (they reran the early years from 2009 - 2017) and then Prisoner was cool. Like seeing Ray as Alf and then Geoff Butler and Craven was pretty cool.
The best interview yet (and the others were great too)! Great actress and loved Debra as Daphne, but particularly enjoyed her performance as wannabe-Vera Sally Dean. This also spawned one of the great lines that since Wentworth already had Vinegar Vera, maybe the prisoners “could call Sally ‘Vinaigrette’”. 😊 Another great effort, guys, thank you! 👍
@@TalkingPrisoner Yeah, I think Sally could have been in it for a few more episodes, although if she continued to be so hopeless I’m not sure for how long! (Although Joyce seemed to do ok, haha!). What I found interesting about Sally was that she didn’t know who she was as a person, and trying to replicate other people (like Vera) just didn’t work because of that. Debra was great because when Sally was trying to be tough, she didn’t play her as tough but as someone ineffectually trying to be tough. If you see what I mean! It was also interesting seeing failings of the officers as opposed to the prisoners for a change. Anyway, loving the series of interviews, guys: really enjoyable and fascinating. (Getting Maggie Millar to do the Marie laugh is still a highlight for me! 😊👍) Best wishes from a cold UK!
I have so many episodes to catch up on been so busy lately. I would like to congratulate you both on your success over the past few months, It is well deserved after all the hard work I know you would have put into this!! What a brilliant interview, once again guys, Well Done! I started watching Home and Away in the early 90s when I was about 10 and became obsessed with it until the late 90s. Funny enough, around 1993 Debra playing Officer Sally Dean in a episode of Prisoner late one night, caught my attention and I was like There's Pippa. That's how My Prisoner fascination began So nice of her to mention Dieter Brummer's passing in 2021, who played Shane in H&A in the 90's. Probably the show's biggest pin up off all time and a really talented actor. Such a tragic loss. Daphne was a interesting character. At first I didn't like The Barnhaust Five. Bea had died, Judy had just left the show. But overtime Daphne became very likable, I like her scenes with Ruth Ballinger. She mentioned being friends with Signid Thornton. A possible future Talking Prisoner guest? 😉
Such a tragic loss losing Dieter Brummer. Thank you for supporting our interviews and your kind comments. I would have loved to have seen more of Sally Dean, so much more scope don't you think ?
Hey Matt hey Ken. Debra Lawrence played the role of Daphne exquisitely because it was (when you come right down to it) kind of a silly character, but she actually made it believable. Also loved her as the wannabe Vera when Vera took her under her wing. Funny exchange between her and Mouse. Sally:" I want you to show me the same respect you show Miss Bennet" "Mouse: ( with a big smirk) "oh ,yes miss Dean"!But then again , she kind of ticked me off when she was responsible for almost getting my favorite character Margo shot. Bea to Sally after the incident : "this was a stick--a stick! You're getting to be more dangerous than you're worth."
@@TalkingPrisoner Through 692 episodes you're always going to have flat parts--that goes without saying .I know a lot of people dismiss the barnhurst 5 era. To answer your question directly: I like the Barnhurst 5 era. It just adds another dimension to the whole Prisoner experience.
It was a joke that Lou Kelly made towards Daphne and her condition. When asked what drink she wanted Lou said she'd have a.m coffee and p.m tea (a reference to Daphne's PMT!!!)
@@TalkingPrisoner I like the characters but they could had better character development from some of the writers. Nora could been more developed and complex
A fascinating watch, as someone who acts "for fun" and is interested in the craft of acting, you can tell Debra REALLY knows her shit!! Far more than just an "entertainer"
I do remember Lou Kelly's line to Daphne: "AM coffee or PM T"! It cracked me up at the time LOL. Typical of Lou Kelly's "wicked" sense of humour. Not sure you get away with a jibe like that these days, there'd probably be a string of complaints from offended viewers all over social media! But ironically, you can swear all you want these days and no one bats an eyelid, whereas back then it was swearing that was considered taboo and was a big no no. Interesting how times have changed in terms of what is offensive, or not.
Love this, a passionate performer with fond and clear memories, an actress who is clearly very invested in her past characters and comes across wonderfully as a warm person. Sad to hear that Debra won't go back to H&A but I totally understand and agree with her reasoning, I do feel she could bring the much needed warmth back to that show however. Very nice interview. She did great work in Prisoner, but will always be Pippa to me, despite the H&A fans taking a bit of time to adjust to the new Pippa at first. Her work with the vocal coaching that she got into towards the end also sounds extremely interesting and almost like hypnosis. Great stuff. 👍
