You're onto it with customer service. I live in negros and 95% of bars and restaurants are overstaffed with untrained servers who spend most of their time on their phones. They miss out on so many sales, especially on drinks. On place I frequent I have to go to the fridge and serve myself while 5 waitresses are doing tiktoks lol. Train your staff not to be shy, be friendly, push the drinks and upsell the food and merch and don't let any pesos escape the premises. Also the #1 rule to survive in hospitality is to get all your systems in place to reduce waste and stop theft. Good luck bro.

In the U.S. 75% of the first-time restaurants fail within the first two years. In my cousin's first and only restaurant in SF, he and his wife worked all evening cooking and serving while his partner and best friend gave away food&drinks and pocketed money. They were devastated to fire the partner and worked harder to keep the restaurant afloat but eventually had to close it. Running restaurant is more than a fun-time job and you have to fail to learn how to do it right.

I had my own bar in Tokyo for 14 years and would not recommend draft beer in Philippines UNLESS you shift at least 5 liters a day, which is 10 pints or 15 smaller size ones. Cleaning beer lines out creates beer waste on a daily basis. I’ve been coming to Philippines for 20 years and no draft is fine for expats. Draft San Mig is not popular with expats anyway, I never drink it on tap, nor do my friends. Anyway, just a thought.

This is not an easy field as you are dealing with humans, but I have been following you for over a year now and see how you handle all obstacles in your way, I know you will turn this place into a successful business. Like you said do not complicate, do not over do it and customer service is key. Keep your head high negativity out, only positive vibes in. By the way I retired from my job as a General Manager of a 100 bedroom resort with three restaurants. I worked for Starwood, Radisson blu, Togo sun and Hilton, plus some locally owned hotels in the Seychelles and Ireland. I give you my blessings in this difficult path you are taking on.

Michael has no experience in running a restaurant and he's going to learn the hard way that the hospitality industry is one of the most difficult businesses to be successful in. Bringing in the proper cheese for poutine and other ingredients needed to make some of these Canadian foods is going to be a real challenge for him.

The usual problem in restaurants is about theft. So you better prepare a system which can avoid theft by the staffs. This is a key for the business to survive. So you better check the inventory and the finances regularly and not leave it alone to someone else.

Michael i did something similar to what you are doing, sourcing food and ingredients are going to be a key cost factor, but you can succeed, i did on a remote Greek island doing alternate cuisine to local. You can use the staff to factory produce items from local ingredients rather than buying ready made, such as wings, making sauces, breaded cheese sticks for frying, arancini. Just look for foods low cost that you can process for high profit.

I wish you success with your bar/restaurant. Great customer service will at least draw foreigners to your place and the prices aren’t too high so maybe some of the locals can go there too. If you’re not running the day-to-day operations, finding a good manager is a MUST. After that, finding hard working and HONEST employees is the next thing. Maybe set up a co-op with other local business owners where you can promote their business with your customers and they can do the same for you.

Just a reminder...Make sure that you are ready for the flooding of customers on your opening day. Do not underestimate the power of social media.. you might be surprised if hundreds of your subscribers or curious person show up.... You must prepare for the worst (i.e stampede, safety issues, etc..make sure you also ask some assistance from your local barangay officials just in case.) Better be safe than sorry...

Looking forward to visiting from Bacolod when we get the chance. Wishing you the best, will let our bowling league know about your establishment. Gone pass Roxas a few times on our way to Boracay, the area you've landed in is beautiful. Stay positive and happy, your channel is a blessing to us all.

Just some suggestions and things I have noticed with customer service in the Philippines… please teach your team Westerners don’t like food served cold and we don’t want everything at the same time. Drinks and Appetizers first, main meal and then desert…I have had it all brought out at the same time in the Philippines…it’s unreal. I do like the fact Filipino servers repeat back your order to ensure they got it right.

"When in Rome .... do as the Romans do" .... ha ha ha. My wife is Filipino .... I'm a western Canadian and my wife is originally from the Philippines, so I'm half Filipino now ..... I've learned to eat my food "cold" .... 😂. You have to remember there is only 2 temperatures in the Philippines, hot and hotter ... lol. So it kind of just makes sense. But your point is well taken, it just made me laugh, cause it's true !!

@@diamond4829 This is easier said than done. My experience with customer service in the Philippines is an odd experience…it’s sometimes over the top or down right rude…not wanting to deal with foreigners is real…Service workers will lie to your face…no stock or can’t do or completely wrong directions…I can’t figure out why. They don’t know me, it’s immediate, I am not rude to them…it’s frustrating.

Great Updates !! Food for Thought - maybe you can do a Sunset Celebration at the Beaver and introduce the Roxas Sunset Cocktail sold only in the evenings. A take off from the Key West end of day celebrations and the Teqiula Sunrise - hahaha

@rufinajorge9827. Hello🙂, if you haven’t seen it/them, consider viewing M’s earlier vlogs covering the tallest J. statue. I believe there is more than one. Michael features the statue, surrounding town & region, & the family behind the building of the shrine & J statue.

I been to a restaurant in another popular Philippine island. They took one hour before they gave us a menu. Yet I saw slot of waiters and waitresses.

I thought you have some great ideas. Being small has a little issue for space at the bar. It does not hurt to dream. I wish you well.
