    Let's face it, the real reason Filthy doesn't like the scavenger is the requirement to have a heart and we all know that Filthy has none

    • @FilthyRobot
      @FilthyRobot  3 роки тому +50

      Seems like that's mod-able. "Have a heart" can be removed to give equal access to the scavenger.

    I'm a bit taken aback at your verdict on the Scavenger. The number of tools, money being saved on buying tools and ammunition, and the fact you get so much back from him make him probably my mandatory 3rd retinue, behind Scout and Lookout. Clearing a random undead armored zombo camp and pulling 50 tools and 1/3rd of my arrows back is just unbelievably good. If I'm fighting enough, I never even have to think about tools, so it's only inventory space and food that are my gates on farming the wild its, really, really strong and probably the best pickup in the whole game if I'm evaluating on pure value.

      Bit late to the party, but it's worth bearing in mind that he plays with expanded inventory space, and buffed quartermaster mods, so I'm not sure if he'd find he has the same limitations as you. That being said, he did say he rarely takes the quartermaster, so maybe it is just personal preference.

  • @cmxpiipl

    I would love if the requirement for each retinue is just to "retire" a brother to take that position and they would keep the brothers appearance and name but become part of your company in another way. This could be further capped that some retinues require a certain lvl/background brother to take the job. So blacksmith should have to be a retired lvl 4+ mason/apprentice/lumberjack or a miner for example.

    • @alphacat9302
      @alphacat9302 Рік тому +1

      Love that idea. Also wish some of the jobs had permanent perks. Like, some free food if you take your fisherman near water. I realize they have entire events around backgrounds so that's cool, but I definitely want more... Heck I keep a caravan hand around in my reserve more for role-playing than anything else. Same with a monk, though the monk actually does have some good benefits. But I like role playing and I like the idea of retinies but I wish it was more

    Blacksmith is amazing, I no longer have to carry multiple sets of armor as it's super fast to repair...freeing inventory space. The protection from losing your good gear to a bad RNG is just a bonus. Blacksmith, Cook, and Scav just allows one to stay in the wilds a crazy long time before having to return.

    Alchemists make killing Spiders, Serpents, Alps, Nachos, Hyenas and Direwolves much much more appealing simply because there are a lot of them in the fight which means more loot. Which also means more ingredients.
    Because Snake Oil *always* sells for 650 (600 really; minus the 50 cost to make the potion) you can basically trawl Forests or Deserts for low tier monsters; run back to the taxidermist and cash in. I can turn 14 direwolves into ~1200 gold coins pretty regularly. It's not crazy; but if you have the slot it makes killing beats way way more worthwile. Snake Oil can also be made from a very broad range of ingredients too so it's often very likely that you'll be constantly crafting it.

    • @timp788
      @timp788 3 роки тому +8

      It's also really strong for a Beast Slayers run since the sell price of the Snake Oil doesn't get modified by the price adjustment, and the added drop rate means you can qualify for it faster and you can make more of it.

    • @theclimbto1
      @theclimbto1 Рік тому +1

      And get this. I do the Peasant Army... then I fire all those idiots and replace them with Freeman (Slaves, who are now free and part of the company, who have an oath to free other Slaves in my RP). So I have 0 Gold Cost. I already make pretty good money just off this, once I get my crew set... recruiting cost and firing cost do bog me down but I can have a good 6 to 10 person party by Day 4 to start gearing up, and the money flows.
      Now, with this... oh my... I'm getting 600 a Snake Oil, and that's going directly into Gear Improvement? Dude, those Legendary Items they sell that I can never afford... hello, may I have another? I'm going to be BANKING!

    scavenger is A tire to me starting mid game for my 500+ day playthrough. It brings thousands of tools over the play through and it alone makes it possible to farm tools mid-late game and make possible long trips through wild camps busting, because tools is the bottle neck and the first supply to run out. I have choice to dump bad loot and keep going in the wild and I have no option but to return to some specific locations if tools run out.

    I really disagree about the smith. Repairing 5 cheap items at a town smith is really a non-issue making this one of the first retinue members I can unlock, if not the first. The quicker repair means that I don't even have to run multiple armor sets which I really don't want to do anyway, as I find it quite tedious and it makes keeping my inventory clean easier as well. So this saves a lot of my real-life time and hassle, which is definitely also an opportunity cost worth considering. ;) Protecting famed items is a nice sidebonus, especially for shields.

    A question about leaving the wilds when you have a full inventory though: Why?
    I mean money doesn't really matter, just keep busting camps and leave the pointless loot there, replace it by the most valuable stuff like fallen hero armor, honor guard armor and other such heavy armors and dump everything less valuable, and scavenger will also help you repair those high value armors. And then just keep exploring until you have to return to get more ammo or tools or food or when you just get a bit tired of busting wilds. You don't actually need to return just because your inventory is full of 1k+ value items, there is no actual reason to not dump those too and just keep looking for fun fights and nice fameds.
    I suppose it also depends a bit on map layout, a map with poor tool availability will skyrocket scavenger value.

    • @andrek6920
      @andrek6920 3 роки тому +1

      Another problem even other than the rumor saturation for the minstrel is simply that the range of tavern rumor fameds is limited. It's 30 tiles, and that's nothing, almost no famed items on the map are within that range, and you will very quickly bust them naturally or see a rumor for it anyways even without the minstrel.

  • @ricwalker6600
    @ricwalker6600 3 роки тому +3

    27:00 i have to disagree. its fairly cheap and by far the easiest retinue to unlock. it can be done already after your first clash with anything. you always get cheap stuff like knives, wooden flails and clubs and militia spears. beeline to the nearest town with armory or weaponsmith and repair that crappers. 5 trash items seldom cost you more than 100 gold. Blacksmith is my go to first retinue. especially in the early game, swap-out armor is not really available, so the 33% repair speed really helps with that. it also helps to repair your loot quick enough that you can sell it on perfect condition.
    The top bonus means that if a bro dies, normally all his zeroed equippment is lost. With the blacksmith it is recovered and that is never a bad thing.

    Generally agree. I do like Blacksmith on early Gladiators, and not having to worry about losing gear is nice. In my experience, the Alchemist goes hand in hand with the Beast Slayers origin, the bonuses compound nicely. That said, I wouldn't be compelled to take it on other origins. The synergy is what makes it work. You can unlock it early-ish via nets + spider silk crafting (If you have a seed with a couple villages prone to generating webberneckt contracts you'll be swimming in silk) affordable and the nets are helpful in scoring new gear or dealing with emergencies. Or turning Alps into free crowns. Agent works well with them, if you put the work into getting it.

    Tbh Cook is truly A tier.
    All of what you said is true as well as it gives you the option to trade some foode items on the side because they stay fresh for longer and retain their value for longer because of it.
    You can pick up mead in the north and sell it in the south and net a few 100 cpins. Not game breaking sure but potentially thats a hire you can make or a try out you can do and you're going in that direction anyway so why not right? It's just a no brain pick for me in the early game and is usually there for basically ever.

    • @Frendlu
      @Frendlu Рік тому

      Sometimes, you dont gonna found enough contracts to improve your company. Contracts must be like 10% of your game. So, if you want to snowball more faster you need to fight, sometimes, 1 battle × day. Maybe its agaisnt thugs, but you want the xp. Contracts, are good for finding monsters (maybe you want some materials or you use the alchemist) or to improve the changes to have famed items or make the city love you, and for that, selling and buying at better prices. But you can make enough money just fighting againt every humanoid enemy. 2tier weapons are very profitable, armors, can be profitable if you dont need them. And also, help you to upgrade your armor and weapons.

    Not that it would make the Minstrel useful, but I think you have overlooked the fact that Renown increases contract payments. So in a heavy-contract playthrough, the Minstrel could be thought of "+15% money from contracts" or "15% faster next-tier-of-payment".

      It's really easy to get if at least two city states have ports. You want to spend lots of time at city states anyway. They have the best prices for selling your loot and most importantly, the arena, which can get any brother +10 morale eventually. That's huge. On top of that, they're the only way I've found to get a named handgonne. Two brothers with named handgonnes, standing at increased elevation, with fearsome and overwhelm can basically ruin any living army.
      In the early game, I just bounce between the city state doing contracts and bonus fights at the arena. I've been at allied before day 50 multiple times.

    One way of fixing it would be gating the most powerful ones behind very awkward, specific and time wasting requirements and making others far quicker/sooner/easier choices to get. Also, I would have to say, BBs are played so so so differently from player to player so basic idea of having many different style retinue is a fun and good one. For me, only problem is that there really are some very useless/shitty ones no one will ever want to use. But, they could be maybe balanced with some new events where you could, for example, get a free random/specific retinue guy for some choice which would then basically remove at least cost of bad ones and "force" you try them out for free or having them being in advantage than having an empty slot instead.

    isn't snake oil recipe just that you can use any crafting component to make an item that can be sold?
    if it is, then the crafting components that is saved with the 25% chance to not use a component is just extra money in your bank. you go in to make the recipe you want and then the components that aren't used are either another item or extra money.

    • @FilthyRobot
      @FilthyRobot  3 роки тому +1

      Sure, but it's easy to imagine a scenario where it gets clunky. Let's say that you farm enough materials for 1 boneplating, 1additional fur paddings, and 1 reinforced net. Ideally you wanted more of these items, but that's what the beasts dropped. You want the 7 items out of your inventory so you take the time to head to a taxidermist. The alchemist works its magic and you're left with an extra wolf hide, extra bone, and an extra spider silk. Yes, that's less farming to do to get the next set, but in the short term you've still lost those inventory slots.

    • @FirstElektroGiant
      @FirstElektroGiant 3 роки тому +1

      @@FilthyRobot actually i was thinking that every time you are done crafting, you make snake oil posions of the rest and sell it off so you have the inventory slots back. but this is all dependend upon what the snake oil posion is. if its just 1 random ingredient that you use and can sell off.
      im not saying its great, just thinking its extra money for slaying creatures, which might make it more viable. not much, but a little.

    I wrote a reply comment below saying that allied state with a house or city state is not that difficult or time consuming to attain.
    Reasons is noble wars and the new holy war crisis. Just pick one house (noble wars and holy wars) or 1 city state and only do their contracts. At the end of the crisis, you will hit allied status.
    Granted, I played Ironman now, so I justify this by picking noble wars as my first crisis. BB Ironman is the hardest Ironman play through ever. It make me stops complaining on X-Com Ironman. In fact, X-com IM is nothing compare to the brutality of BB. So picking nobles wars as first crisis is justifiable, at least for me.

    I understand opportunity cost... but this is literally Cook for Armor, swapping out +3 Days with Never Lose Item.
    So I have a hard time understanding, since it's not JUST the +3 Days part you like on Cook, you said the 33% HP Recovery is very nice... how that doesn't apply here.
    You would think Cook/Blacksmith offer some amazing synergy.

      HP and armor are totally different. You can replace armor (by having reserve armor in your inventory, which you will have most of the time), but you cant replace HP. That makes the blacksmith bonus much less impactfull in the scenarios hes talking about than the cook.
      The second blacksmith bonus is literally useless. You dont want to loose brothers in the first place... like, ever.

    I think only orcs warriors and warlords can be champions.
