The beauty of sampling...feeling lame for being born in 1990, sampling classics like this gives me the opportunity to hear some awesome music way before my time.

Ignorant folks look down on hip-hop and sampling, but there are so many artists I wouldn't know anything about if it weren't for rap music. That guitar hook is so eerie and beautiful.

I was born 1957, and Witnessed the 60s. My uncle was kia in southvietnams s central highlands mid 3/68 , ten days b 4 my 11th bday at tail end of tet! Yes I seen the sixties ,and it was an interestingly crazy time. But, I into the early garage, punk, psych because of its authenticity!

Never heard of this until I got curious about where the Gnarls Barkley sample originated. Glad I checked it out. And for those complaining about sampling go to sleep. Music is made to be enjoyed and to inspire. Just because you don't like the end result doesn't mean it's not good. It's just not your cup of tea. But saying it shouldn't be used is like saying nobody should play chords except the original person who played it because you're "unoriginal", give me a break

Well said. I don't understand all these DJ's that only listen to music for beats to steal??! What's the point? You're either a musician or you ain't. You either love music for music's sake and how it can transport your soul to someplace special or your jus listening, all the while thinking :"Should I speed it up, or slow it down? (So I can audibly puke all over it). They'll never know the wonders of listening to a record all the way through. They just skip all over town, mining for 3 seconds of money making potential. It's kinda sad to me. Obviously, not all DJ's think/listen like this but there's more to life than hip hope. I listen to Lee Dorsey/ Toussaint/ The Meters / Dr. John / James Booker to listen to THEIR records all the way through. NOT FOR A BREAK or sample. I listen to Hugo & Lalo for the same reasons. I dig soundtracks. Anyways, no disrespect to the masters who create magic with an undiscovered beat. Nowadays, seems like it makes more sense to hire a sick drummer.

basically only people who were into obscure psych-prog music. I hope peter dunton from please received a big fat royalty cheque for the sample. I didn't know about gnarls barkley but what I've listened to is pretty cool.

It's definitely a Freak beat tune even though it's wonderfully done. If they would've used the keyboard that the Zombies used on Butcher's Tale. Than this song would've been Freakiest, but however you slice the dice. It's still a dark paranoid tune done in a darker feeling.
