whenever you strip paint or varnish off a wood, go with the grain, not against it. Going across can lead to blemishes in the finished product and will make it far more difficult to re-stain. Love the furniture, you making the space your own is so fun to watch.
You and Hayley are seriously adorable! You both stuck your tongues out at the same time about "stealing" the sideboard from the guy at the thrift. The space seems like it's really starting to marry your styles, which is awesome.
Every video, I'm just so impressed by how beautifully your home is coming along. I can't wait to see more. Someday, can you show us around the island? I'd love to know more about the Isle of Man.
I guess you'll have to ask someone else for a tour around the Isle of Man. Hermione and Hayley live on the Isle of Wight. That's only 620 km apart from each other :-)
Thank you so much!! 🩷🩷 that means so much to me. And absolutely! I would love to do that, I was thinking of making a video a month all about living on the island (like going for a picnic on the beach or a little road trip) but I wasn’t sure if anyone would want to see it, this gave me the inspiration to do it 😃 thank you
Very nice pieces. We've restored a lot of mid century modern pieces. We always use Tung oil for a, both color enhancer and finish. One step process and it always works.
Okay.So i've watched your channel religiously since you bought this house and was restoring it. I've had notifications on for some reason.Your videos haven't been showing up for me. So I binged all the korea videos and everything Thereafter , i'm so excited for the new phase of your life and congratulations on your nuptials❤❤ Couldn't be happier for you!!
My in-laws gave us a beautiful bedroom set that has passed through the hands of several family members and been painted over time and time again and we want to somehow restore it this spring, so these videos are very useful ✍🏻
Congratulations ❤yes you snagged a stunning sideboard for an amazing price. I love it! Everything is looking great so far. I love Haley’s chair…… but I love anything with hands. Oh your both such a joy to watch those lovely smiles are priceless. 🙋🏻♀️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🫶🏼
Oh yeah, I was hoping you would be able to get the dresser. Start the car!!! Looks amazing ladies. I’ve restored my bed, dressers, tables….I’ve painted my house several times as I tend to pick colours I don’t like. 😂😂
I really recommend watching some of Dashner Design and Restoration's videos if you are thinking about more MCM furniture restorations. His videos are so soothing and relaxing but also very informative and I've learned so much about what to do vs what not do when it comes to restoring furniture and just working with wood in general.
Hi Hermione & Hayley! I love the MCM pieces you got at the charity shop. They look stunning in your home & the remodeling came out beautiful. Well done! I have never restored any furniture, just repainted a few items into colors & metals I prefer. I'm a silver/black metal person so that's what I change things to. You're a pro at this & I learn so much watching your channel. Will you be doing another collab with Mr. Carrington again? I enjoyed watching your videos together.
You did a great job refinishing the chest of drawers- in fact it’s amazing that you have made so many repairs yourself in your home. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 You should be very proud! I love the sideboard. It’s beautiful. 😍
You did a great job on the chest of drawers but I must admit that I don't like the sideboard you bought. At the end of the day, it's your house so I'm glad you're happy.
i love the sheer pink curtains, the light that they let through is so 'welcoming spring magical' type feeling! x edit: jigsaw puzzles aren't a waste of time!
as a xennial, it is so bizarre to me to see mid mod furniture so highly coveted these days 😅 back in the 90s it was overflowing in every thrift store, and nobody wanted it! it reminded us of our grandparents' crappy old furniture 😂 i get it now though, can totally appreciate it in a new context! but i'll never get used to those high prices!
I totally agree, I used to think it looked so boring when I was younger 😅 and now I see things from my childhood being resold online as a “trend” I’m so confused at how quickly things move 😂
I bought a second-hand campaign style credenza that has a few spots of peeling veneer. I'm going to try bondo to repair before refinishing. Wish me luck 🤞
I don't know what to say when england but when I strip paint here in the u s I find that covering the stripper with cling film And letting it fit overnight.I really get a lot more paint off
Matching furniture is a no no? What? I have literally never heard that one before. I found a display cabinet on the pavement. Stripped the paint, removed the crappy stickers on the glass, sanded it, repainted, varnished, replaced the hinges. It now holds my Disney Traditions collection.
It's a pretty common rule of thumb in interior design, but depends on the design school. Contemporary interior design emphasizes the importance of mixing and matching.
This is why I never paint wood if you need to change it well it's harder than H to do it. I am guessing you will sand the top of the new piece to repair the damage. You did well. I never paint wood unless it's because it's unrepairable. You didn't paint the fireplace yet is this still the plan? Maybe denim on the chair finding vegan leather is expensive and makes it more hard wearing if the dogs want to sit. Using acrylic paint and stain together I have heard works. Well done you two lovebirds H&H
I wholeheartedly agree! I’ve learned my lesson. I think it’s nice to paint things that really need repairing as you mentioned, but some furniture looks better as it was intended! 🥰 I’m definitely still thinking about painting the fireplace, haven’t settled on a colour yet (too many ideas haha!) Denim could work well! What do you think about velvet? I was thinking maybe green? Leather chairs always make me uncomfortable in the summer so 100% it’s got to be something else 😃 Thank you so much for the lovely comment!
Is it?! Because everything I had before was a hand-me-down that I made work as best as I could. I didn’t choose it. This is the first time I’m buying things for this house that I really like. It’s also been 7 years since I first did up the house. My style has evolved as I’ve grown and learned new things. So I wholeheartedly disagree with this statement.
I learned the hard way after dozens of furniture restorations that wood conditioner is a must. I never skip it and the results speak for themselves.
Ohhhh noted, thank you! I’ll get some next time I’m at the hardware store 😃
Ooo a wood conditioner what is it & what’s the brand you use? thanks
whenever you strip paint or varnish off a wood, go with the grain, not against it. Going across can lead to blemishes in the finished product and will make it far more difficult to re-stain. Love the furniture, you making the space your own is so fun to watch.
You’re so right! Thank you for the tip! and that means so much to me 😃 thank you
Your decor style has matured so much, it looks so stylish.
Those delivery guys were awesome!!❤ The house is looking great!
They were soooo nice! They made my day 😃 and thank you 🩷
So true, it must be nice for them whenever younger home owners buy older furniture, id like to think it feels rewarding seeing its life continue.
You and Hayley are seriously adorable! You both stuck your tongues out at the same time about "stealing" the sideboard from the guy at the thrift. The space seems like it's really starting to marry your styles, which is awesome.
We are so in sync hahaha! Maybe we spend tooooo much time together! Thank you 🩷
So glad your fixing your place again . Luv your dogs❤
To give the sideboard the space it deserves, I would have placed the sofa where the armchairs are and vice versa.😊
Congratulations on getting the sideboard you both wanted. Hermione, great job on the dresser. 👍👍♥️♥️
Thank you so much!! 🩷
Mid century furniture always looks good when it matches, looks incredible great job! ❤
I think it’s the only exception to the “matching bedroom furniture is bad” rule 😃
I can't believe you got the sideboard!! It's stunning~ 🩷
You got the sideboard! It’s gorgeous! 😍❤️ And the dresser and desk look so nice too 😍
And I’ve never restored anything.
Thank you sooo much 😃🩷
The dressing table and chest of drawers really do match. I love your living room fireplace and mantle piece....😊
Every video, I'm just so impressed by how beautifully your home is coming along. I can't wait to see more.

@HermioneChantal yay!!! I'm so glad! I love to travel - even virtually. 😊
@judy-angedv7590 oops!! WIGHT!!! Lol!! I know that! 🤪 My brain failed me today.
That sideboard, which I’d call a credenza, is so beautiful.
Very nice pieces. We've restored a lot of mid century modern pieces. We always use Tung oil for a, both color enhancer and finish. One step process and it always works.
You always blow me away 🔥 you’re a genius babe ❤
I love you 🥰🩷
What a beautiful job you did on that chest of drawers! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Love the sideboard, great price! 😊
and Mrs T Well done girls the furniture looks amazing
Your dresser is gorgeous!
MCM absolutely looks phenomenal together ❤❤❤
You’re so right!! 🩷
I’ve been looking forward to more home updates, gorgeous pieces and great to see things coming together. Love it 🩷
We live and we learn(the hard way) that wooden furniture shouldn't be painted. The dresser turned out gorgeous
The sideboard is beautiful.🥰🥰

I love that puzzle. Why not shellac/glue it and frame it? 🎉
The chest you stripped is absolutely fab well done...
Thank you so much!!

Ooooh great recommendation thank you I will check him out this evening 😃
Love love the new retro furniture..I sadly had to part with my side 60 yr old side board, but I love my dining room table and chairs..
Boo! This wasn't long enough lol! I'm so happy to see you putting this house back together again!

This sideboard 😍😍😍
Well done! ❤

I love to paint furniture. I would no paint mcm though. Good job with all the great finds.

I wonder if you had used wood conditioner ? Mid century furniture is my obsession ❤🇨🇦
3 days is notttt bad😂❤
as a xennial, it is so bizarre to me to see mid mod furniture so highly coveted these days 😅 back in the 90s it was overflowing in every thrift store, and nobody wanted it! it reminded us of our grandparents' crappy old furniture 😂 i get it now though, can totally appreciate it in a new context! but i'll never get used to those high prices!

Good luck!! I heard that an iron can help re-stick veneer too (but I haven’t tried it yet so don’t quote me on that 😅)
I don't know what to say when england but when I strip paint here in the u s I find that covering the stripper with cling film And letting it fit overnight.I really get a lot more paint off
What’s the name of the colour stain you used & what brand thanks. It looks lovely!!!

I prefer MATCHING FURNITURE! Always look cleaner
11:45 😭😭😭

Where’s your living room rug from please honey? My Dad told me to use “tung” oil. I’m not sure if I spelled that correctly but you get the drift. 😂
This is why I never paint wood if you need to change it well it's harder than H to do it. I am guessing you will sand the top of the new piece to repair the damage. You did well. Thank you so much for the lovely comment!
Denim is so cool, inexpensive and sturdy. A nice velvet will cost you lots of money and the cheaper synthetic velvet looks mostly shitty I'm afraid.
I watched some time ago the spice girls music video of "stop" i think you look like emma bunton from that video. The same face. Or am i wrong?
Are you just adopting her style....it's not what you were...I get people evolve, but this is a whole new style...
Is it?! Because everything I had before was a hand-me-down that I made work as best as I could. I didn’t choose it. This is the first time I’m buying things for this house that I really like. What on earth is thrifted ? Thrift?
