'Ego' or self-centredness or arrogance is a very complex and layered thing. I believe that Jay Z actually has a lot of it- but due to his intelligence he just expresses it in a complicated way- his attachment to an image of himself as someone who is 'above' ego is in itself I think a roundabout expression of superiority. Its like the highly narcissistic 'spiritually advanced' people who think of themselves as so advanced in their consciousness that they are inherently more superior and developed than others....trust fund spiritual warriors.
