- Capitalism is losing its luster. Most millennials in the U.S. now say they prefer socialism. Inequality is rising, as those at the top take more of economic winnings. Anger and despair have risen among many of those who are being left behind. Populism is on the rise, on the political left and right. Capitalism and democracy were once seen as symbiotically related: a broadly market economy embedded within a liberal, representative demos. Now the partnership is in question, in part because of the perceived failure of democratic institutions to generate shared economic prosperity. So: what’s next? State capitalism? Socialism? A basic income? An expert panel discusses these issues, featuring: Leslie McCall, presidential professor of sociology and political science and associate director of the Stone Center on Socio-Economic Inequality at The Graduate Center; Vanessa Williamson, senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and author of Read My Lips: Why Americans Are Proud to Pay Taxes; and Andrew Yang, tech entrepreneur, philanthropist, and founder of Venture for America. Moderated by Richard Reeves, senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, author of Dream Hoarders, and curator of the The Guardian’s “Broken Capitalism” series.

Grow a spine, try to apply the scientific method to your thoughts, and learn to doubt them.
I wouldn't even *dream* of trying to persuade you to consider Yang fairly, that would be wholly unrealistic with your current state of mind. I *would* implore you, for your own happiness, to consider the fact that just as with everyone else including myself, most of your ideas are false, until refined with immense self-scrutiny, a process which initially shouldn't be satisfying. This infowars mode of thought only ends in the subsumation of the reasonable individual to dogma.

He has always been lucid, he's just paying attention to the points the other panelists are making. Instead of talking over them, he has the ability to be respectful under pressure, which is extremely necessary for a president. Granted these people share many of his values, but that's because they are professionals, not because they are paid lackeys or bootlickers. Cannot wait to see him in the debates.

And they're supposed to be using their extensive knowledge, intellect, and experience to create laws that benefit our country and its people. So, you would think, that every single person in Congress should be able to perform just as good, if not better, than Yang did here, yet I highly doubt that would be the case.

This is a preview for the debates. The other two speakers on the panel sometimes talked around Yang's points, and the moderator didn't want to give as much time to Yang at times, but Yang hung in there, stayed focus on making his points heard, and even interrupted at times to make sure people heard the facts. He was still respectful and courteous, but I think he is ready to take off the gloves against Sanders, Biden, and Warren!
He looks serious, that man is not playing once he gets into the White House. Leaders of every country will adore him.

We need to make UBI more mainstream. Lots of people still think it's too radical. Americans need UBI more than we think, just imagine what it can do for a family of 2 adults, that's $2k a household. A real game changer for americans. 💯#yang2020
The problem with UBI isn't that it's radical, it's that anyone who supports it is economically illiterate or badly motivated.

@@bigfan1041 In my case, I support UBI because I'm basically a libertarian who believes there are aspects of libertarianism that don't work very well in real life. I examined the evidence for UBI and saw that it has vast positive effects on mental and physical health, education rates and educational attainment, entrepreneurship, median income, community engagement and trust amongst people and between people and public institutions like the police, and reductions in crime, domestic violence, incarceration rates, hospital visits and in some cases, reductions in drug and alcohol use and even inflation! It's very hard to argue with a lot of that evidence, especially in the case of the Great Smoky Mountains Study of Youth.

I find it funny how most of the economic answers all go back to automation, but it's true. Automation of both physical and mental tasks will affect all parts of the economy not just in America, but the world.

Yang looks to be the smartest, most capable, best-intentioned, most honest, most logical, most agenda-free candidate who's most concerned with the welfare of all americans. Plus, he's very likeable, relatable and funny as hell!
I know right……… theres just no way that the Democratic Party would ever do something right or smart & endorse him, and to be honest what worries me the most is how much control the D.N.C. actually has over the Democratic Primaries behind the scenes.
During the 2016 election We all saw exactly how much Control the D.N.C. Establishment has and that they're willing to use it to get what they want.
So even if my biggest hopes and dreams come true and Andrew Yang Blows all the other Candidates out of the water and the Primaries come down to Yang and Biden because obviously the DNC has made their choice already judging on what all the DNC owned propaganda News Organizations are all saying about Biden which seems completely counter to Reality & Public Opinion.
If that happens I think we'll see the DNC do exactly whatever they want & whatever is good for them & the Status Quo & Damn the People.
If that happens, I think we'll see some serious civil unrest and riots.

I think it was quite balanced. The moderator brought structure to the discussion and did a good job I think. Mind you this was not a YangGang rally. And I think the other two speakers agreed with Andrew mostly.

I have no idea why Andrew agreed to this. They obviously don't know anything about him, acting like he's not even running. Getting a lot of patronizing and elitist snobbery from the guy on the left.
I think they didn't acknowledge his candidacy because the university (as a tax-exempt entity) has an obligation to remain politically neutral/unbiased and can't support a candidate, intervene in campaigns, etc.

I found all three of the non-Yang speakers to have interesting and well-researched points to make.

Hopefully Andrew Yang wins and becomes president. Its easier said then done. Because it takes more than being President to pass bills and make Amazon pay taxes. Because there would be votes and Congress has to pass the bill. Many high leaders that enforce bills would be paid to flip the decision to cause the economy and society to be hurt. And the economy just keeps on tanking affecting the U.S. and other countries.
If Yang gets elected that's a powerful mandate and should be a wake up call to Congress and the Senate that business as usual is OVER. There's already several newly elected representatives that would be on board with him. AOC and Gabbard come to mind in this respect.
Racism is such a big portion of the political and economical problem -- America very badly needs to get beyond racism(if it actually is capable).

At 25:40, the lady speaker mentioned that only American citizens pay taxes but she forgot to mention was there are millions of legal residents (aka green card residents )who entered the workforce for multiple years and significant portion of theirs paycheck has also contributing to pay roll taxes but they are not interested or engage in political BS.

Good conversations, first time I've seen Yang challenged and should prepare him for the debates. But I noticed, as I watch most of Yang's videos, that he relies on his script and goes back to it a lot, which was good for a majority of the talk and kind of got him out of some tough questions or spots, and he molded it in a way that was relevant and did a great job. I understand Yang is trying to get as much exposure as possible and stick to these selling talking points, but the one that was the most disappointing was the last question, 'is UBI individualistic or collective?' (paraphrased). It was a challenging question, to which I personally think the answer is both but needs explanation, but Yang went back to his talking points and decided to end on a motivating political speech. I don't blame him, but there was a trade off and that question didn't get the full answer it deserved. I would really like for him to follow up on that in more depth and give a response that doesn't just loop back into his script.
This, THIS is what competent moderation should resemble.
Andrew Yang is logical reasonable and every word he said makes a lot of sense. You don’t have to say much but you need to make good points and convince people

Solid talk from Yang, his usual talking points and all completely relevant to the issues. The lady on the left, Vanessa, made some really good points and gave good insight. Interesting that she argued legislators need more money so that they can hire their own team to inform them instead of lobbyists. The lady on the right also gave interesting insight with politicians thinking they're powerless to change the economy. I think that's a product of politicians not understanding how things work.
Yang again sticking to the facts of our foreseeable economic demise by reiterating that the time of round table discussions remarking the trivialities of marketable existentialism are long gone and wastes time. We’re within an era with extended expediency. We know the issues that plague each and everyone of us individually, the question is how are we going to act collectively to make sure that our concerns are exported toward the helm of political expediency? #Yang2020
