I’m watching this while camping in my 03 Tacoma double cab. The wife and I are hunkered down in the rain this AM in the camper shell. I am totally building one of these. Awesome Job man. I’ve loved your vids and builds for years.
I know I'm not alone in saying I REALLY appreciate you openly sharing your low cost solutions. Thank You! Edit to add: Use a little cutting oil (motor oil works too) when drilling metal. It lubes the bit, floats away cuttings and helps keep everything cooler. All good things for preserving bits.
You're a beast for sharing all this. I literally just bought a welder after watching your videos. It's something I've always wanted to do, just put it off for many many years. Here we go. Bought to learn a new skill. 💪😎
Awesome build there mate, a little tip, cut 3 spaces from the tube you used to make sure the gap is correct, then bolt them into place when your ready to weld, it will keep it nice and straight and help reduce any warping!
This is something that will be great to add to the Jeep, just going to make sure the measurements are right for it. I've made a galley for the back of the Jeep so this would be great cover for cooking too !!!
Overland Under Budget, If you really under the budget and you don't want to purchase the circular saw blade or no circular saw, you can cut two pieces of the 3/16 flat metal plate slightly larger than the template. Tack weld them together. Drill the pivot holes on the metal according to template. Install the 3 short bolts to hold them together then cut the outside edges of the template with a 4 1/2 inch angle grinder ( 5-packs Dewalt cutting blade for $7.98 @ Lowes). Now you have a perfect matching plate. I've been wanting to design one for my 4RUNNER but I haven't a chance. To much dirt play time. This Idea give me an incentive to build my roof rack to hang the awning. Thank you for sharing this great design. It sure cut the time for me to design and build one.
Thank you for these amazing videos Micah, much appreciated! What an innovative project. Just as a side, I would highly advise to take care of your back more; working bent over like that is not good for it over the long term (or your knees!). Perhaps you can make a welding table and stool and that way we get another DIY video too haha! Cheers
@@OverlandUnderBudget I agree with @maarkbar. I am newbie welder also and the most import thing that I found and am always told in welding is to get in a comfortable position. You will enjoy it better and your welds will be better and easier. Look for a cart on CL I did and I welded a 3/16" plate to make the top bigger. You can add locking wheels from HF for easily moving. Also get yourself a Automatic Center Hole Punch, makes drilling holes so much easier. www.amazon.com/Neiko-02638A-Automatic-Center-Adjustable/dp/B008DXYOLC/ref=sr_1_1?crid=217YQHRFLQ6O6&dchild=1&keywords=spring+hole+punch&qid=1615004867&sprefix=spring+hole%2Caps%2C168&sr=8-1
Cutting fluid will help a lot while drilling. If you don't want to buy it you can dilute some Elmer's glue with water and pour a little in the hole two or three times while drilling. It'll go quicker and spare your drill bits a little since all your viewers are probably on tight budget.
about the welding settings. for short circuit mig, if it sounds like cooking bacon youre ok. but, you can find setting charts online and adjust from there. theres also a few apps for android (i assume there must be some for ios as well) that you write what size are you welding and it will tell you the basic settings, again, for you to start adjusting cause every machine is different.
just a tech tip if you look under the lid of your welding Machine there is a diagram that helps you set your setting for the thickness of metal. great job though keep up the great work!!!!
Wanted to emphasize some sort of cutting oil, and get yourself a center punch or spring loaded punch from harbor freight. They are like $8 and make starting the drill bit much easier. It won't wander around. Once I get my garage finished up I'm definitely making one of these. Thanks for doing the hard work!
Nice work! I have a 99 Tacoma I am working on overlanding. Your Tacoma has been a huge inspiration since I’ve started watching the videos. If you ever decide to sell prefabricated hinges let us know!! I’d definitely get one 😎😎
Any suggestions for your 270 awning on a 1999 chevy suburban? Length of arms , bracket mounted slightly rearward? Your video's are very inspiring! Also ,I want to pay you for your plans, but not used to sending money on UA-cam or internet. Thanks for all you do!
Hey! Thanks so much, I would say keeping the arms at the same length as the video will let you run that tarp really easy. But longer arms like just 7.6 or 7.10 would still fit in the bag.
Just a suggestion, bro. I noticed u posted the picture of ur tempmate and list of bolts on the website. I think it's brilliant to have put it for sale. U deserve to get compensated for ur creation. But u canscreenshott it and resize it to fit a standard sheet of paper and print it for free. I would probably take the picture of the product ur selling off. Dont want u getting cheated
Can't wait for the vid about the tarp, if I'm not mistaken I believe harbor freight has a 30% off coupon for all tarps through the end of the month. the small percentage won't make that much of a difference but every penny helps in these currently times.
I’ve been using 035 for everything so far. Let me know what you think! Also I’ve been running the machine off 120v this whole time, I need to get a 220v extention
Hi. I just bought your templet because a Love thease build. The Problem ist i am living in Germany and i need to know the exact Setting on the printer because we have different mesurings. Could you Tell me what Scale 100% means? Thx
Yes i found the ride printer sice because of your 1 inch scale. 1 inch is 2.54cm and i found the ride setting. Know i can start the build and looking forward to you tarp cut build. Best wishes from germany. Sven
I love your videos!!! Question where did you get the 2000x2000 ARB bag from? I can only find the 2000x2500 and I really want to get the 2000. Thanks in advance.
Just made mine using your template, I welded it a bit different but so far so good! Great project man, I'm glad I found your videos!

@@OverlandUnderBudget Awesome! FYI: I added a metal drilling tip to my comment.
Agreed! Thanks
Another great tool is a step-bit, it keeps the holes perfectly circular and drills through steel like butter.
@@nickohdub with the step bit you would have to drill the plates separately.
Good job and good way to expose and market your template downloads
I'm sure I'm not the only one here who truely appreciates this help. kindness, help hard work and common sense. Thanks dude
I really appreciate that!
I would love to see you build a welding table and get a vice! As an old guy, please save your back! Great project, I enjoyed watching

agreed! the angle grinder and cut off wheel are the king of the garage!
Great video! Tip: Use a punch to mark your holes instead of a marker. It also helps to keep your bit from walking on you.
You definitely made this look a lot simpler to do than I imagined. Looks good
This is so cool. Thanks for doing this! Now I just need to get a welder and learn how to do it.
Thank you so much. Really appreciate the information shared. That's what we all need to do, help each other. Keep up the great work.

Thanks for the video. Since I don't have the wherewithal, I can just hope that i can buy the kit one day.. Keep up the good work.

Nice job mate.... please can I have the plate schedule with the hole measurements??? Thanks a lot for your video
Was hoping you would post this. Thanks! Time to start another project!

Hello I just purchased your bracket templates but I’m having trouble finding the arb bag , do you have a link for it ? Thanks in advance 🙏🏼
Same.

Can you show me more about the bar you mentioned to hold the other end of the bag up?
How do i donwload the template? I paid the found but it does not give me the option to download.
Disculpa me interesa pero no puedo traducirlo al español
Need a video on the tarp construction...
Yes!!! Working on that

Love it!! Are all the beams the same length front to back?
the two inner arms are 7ft, and the outer arm is 7' 4"
With a Jeep grand cherokee, do I have to mount the awning high enough so the awning will allow the rear door to open fully??
saw you in paso today

Can I buy that hinge you just made on this video? Thanks.

Ahh I’ll try that!
I think wire speed in conjunction with the amount of gas. The black residue would indicate too much gass.
Nice
