I totally agree with you that she's one of the only singers I've ever heard who even comes close to the stylistic richness of Elvis. I grew up listening to Elvis starting in the late 50's and he was always an icon from the word go so I don't make the comparison lightly. Could it be we are watching the birth of a female Elvis? Some may think it is because she covers older songs that she draws an older crowd. I think it's something else... Consider this; there are lots of performers that impersonate Elvis, and some can sound just like him. Have you ever experienced someone that sounds like Angelina Jordan, let me be the first to answer that question, and the answer in no. That is because AJ is one of a kind, and on a level that supercedes all others. If you question what I have just stated just listen to the professional voice teachers after experiencing AJ. They all admit that they are speechless because they have never heard anyone like AJ. It is the same antique store in Hollywood that she used for My Funny Valentine AJ plays guitar, keyboard/piano, violin and flute. Don’t forget she writes music and was the youngest author in Norway to publish a book. No loud band, no light show, no dancers, just two instruments to accompany the MAGIC that Angelina Jordan brings like no one else can. At 7 she was killing us, at 16 she is taking us places we have never been. What a glorious production, praise to everyone involved, so perfect for Angelina Jordan she rules the universe with her talent. Again, the great talent of Rob Christie playing the piano. The Cinemaphotography, a total MASTERPIECE, Excellent ART Cole McCarthy! Great touch, the cousins and sister get a cameo. Mery, you should be so proud, AJ's grandma produced this. (This red guitar is identical to the one Elvis played in his 1968 concert on TV.) Oh, the tears, and loss of breath, she is like no other in the universe. Here is a classic example of what this ethereal talent, Angelina Jordan, can achieve she takes a mundane song and turns it in to phenomenal classic. Angelina at 16 is the MASTER of her universe, she is top priority for both Stargate, and AJ's voice has been unique since she was 7 years old and now at 16, she controls us as an audience, leaving us hang on every word and phrase.
when I see Angelina's niece rambling about it reminds me of Elvis' daughter Lisa Marie. And this is exactly when Angelina rolls out the line, "Caught in a trap." I'm thinking that it fits so well with Elvis and Priscilla and young child not so easy to separate when children are involved.

Welcome back to Angelina's world guys (we're just living in it as they say). You are spot on with your comments, yes she is channeling Elvis here with that nasal timbre to her voice. And of of course all the trappings, the leather, guitar etc. By the way she continues to sport the beehive hair in her concerts in Norway this summer. She must stop traffic walking down the street, even in LA! And a Vegas show, YES! That has to be in her future, I'll buy tickets for that now! My interpretation of the symbolism of this music video: First, and foremost; Angelina Jordan at 16 is the epitome of a Storytelling ARTIST, and she has the ability to take us by the hand and lead us down an imaginary path that we visualize as reality. The remarkable fact is that we experience this in each of her performances. In this video we see her as a married woman in her mid to late 20s. As the video starts out, we see dishes, and it is a symbol of a home. As AJ sings the phrase “Were caught in a trap, I can’t walk out” we see 3 small children, this to me is a marriage where the children come first. If it were AJ by herself, she would not stay in a relation without trust. AJ adapts the performance to pay homage but then makes it her own and so much better than the original.

She may have had something in mind when she injected each of the things that stood out in the video, and she most likely did. But as with anything of this kind, the symbols are open to the interpretation of the viewer/listener. You introduced some interpretation that I hadn't considered. I'm not saying that's what AJ had in mind, but I like it a lot when someone puts their own take on it, and gives me a story I hadn't considered. @@wajj1842 Don't forget, Cole McCarthy directed this video, and his brother, Chip McCarthy did the artwork. These two are just about the best in the industry. The McCarthy brothers were also involved the Beatles song "Yesterday", and AJ was in a shopping basket. The symbolism there was to show her as a "Basket Case".
I do not tire of this gorgeous video and rendition. You should check out her music video of "I Have Nothing," a Whitney Houston cover. Angelina is mezzo-alto and WH is soprano, but the power and the Angelina stamp are there. Gorgeous. I recommend this to you because you used the word "statuesque" to describe our barefoot vocalist. I really enjoy to see that you are as proud 'parents' as we other Angel's are. Regarding performing in Las Vegas I am a bit more concerned. The important driving force should always be her love for performing, not the fake glamour I feel Vegas stands for. When seeing her here in Norway this summer it was so obvious that she really genuinely loves to perform, it is not the status, fame or money that is her driving force, but pure deep love of performing live for an audience. I really hope this is possible to combine, so we all will be able to enjoy this insane gift to the world for many years to come

On vacation here in Vegas and so glad to see you reacting to Angelina Jordan again. Now at 16 she is on the cusp of becoming a young adult and I know that Angelina would be a hit performing at one of the casino theaters. Would be a great way to promote her upcoming album. Angelina's look and stage presence right now would fit in Vegas but she's got 40-50 years before settling for that. Vegas is where singers go to retire their act years after they've had their fame and fortune. Maybe one day soon you'll run into her again, LOL.
Well, it was nice to see you guys, if only for a few minutes. Both of you were "Angelina-ized" as she sang 'for you'. She'll be in Vegas within the next 12-18 months. I want to see her at Carnegie Hall. A little update for you. I'm not 100% sure but I believe her amateur standing is a thing of the past. She just finished performing 3 Concert's in Norway and from this point on all her video's and personal appearances, etc., will be in the hands of Republic Records but I believe she will still have the ability to influence decisions made where and when she will be doing "her thing". Her marriage with Republic Records has been wonderful and I see no reason why their relationship should be disrupted in any way.

Rob was the MC of AJ Christmas Show that aired Dec 23, of 21. AJ’s Christmas Show that live-streamed on Dec 23 of 21 had some of the most important musicians of our time: Frank Sinatra's drummer for 6 years, and sun in-law of the late Henry Mancini, Greg Field has won 9 Grammys, and the bass player, Chuck Berghofer who also played for Sinatra for 6 years, and toured with Barbara Streisand, accompanied AJ on her Christmas Show, and they stated that she had the "storytelling ability of the greats, Streisand, Fitzgerald, Vaughan, including Sinatra, to name a few. Elvis bombed on his first trip to Vegas. Music was too young for the audience. His later tours there were huge as his fans matured and re-lived memories of their youth. Okay, so her hair resembles Priscilla’s, the leather jacket like Elvis wore, even the red Hagstom guitar is what Elvis played a lot. She makes every song her own, just like Pentatonix does.
The song was written by Mark James. In the Wikipedia entry of the origins of the song, he is said to have remarked "That late one night, he was fooling around on his Fender guitar and using his Hammond organ pedals for a bass line and came up with what he thought was a catchy melody. At the time, he was married to his first wife but still had feelings for his childhood sweetheart, who was married back in Houston. James's wife had suspicions about his feelings. He felt it was a confusing time for him and that all three were "caught in this trap that they could not walk out of." Other singers covering this song invariably base their performance on that of Elvis, in that it is very "upbeat". Angelina took a very different path in that she read and understood the lyrics and what Mark James intended when writing them . To my mind, her rendition is much truer to the emotions of the song. The children appearing in the video were Angelina's cousins Aurora (first) and then Athena - daughters of her uncle Michael Astar, and then her sister Juliette. I would hazard a guess that they were included to emphasise that children are very important to Angelina and her family. Confession! I have never been a great fan of Elvis Presley, although I do like some of his earlier recordings, and I had never heard of the song "Suspicious minds" but knew that Angelina would completely take ownership of it, and she did. It was beautiful. After listening to it several times, I decided to download the lyrics to see whether she kept to the original structure. She didn't, and the song is all the better for it. For me, that she started with the Bridge of the song is very significant and, I feel, very indicative of Angelina's "up front" transparency. She was declaring that it was important that their love did not die, and then carries on to say why she feels as she does. Others first say how they feel and then, almost as an afterthought, assure their love they don't want it to end. For me, it is whether I feel the singer is genuine about the situation and wishes it could be resolved or whether the singer understands the situation but thinks the blame is on her/his partner but feels the need to assure them they don't want it to end (until somebody else comes along).

When I first heard this song I loved it and put it at #3 on my playlist (Angelina Jordan Playlist by Terry M.), about midday I moved it up to #1. The main thing that changed my mind was the power in her voice. I'm not talking about loudness I'm talking about the power she has regardless of how loud or soft she sings. This is a quality that I haven't heard from anyone in my 82 years. This voice has become so unique that it is totally unmatched. Her phrasing in the last bridge is great. Sorry guys. I like you but you way off here. Elvis went mainstream and kitchy because he lost his edge. Vegas may provide a good living ala Wayne Newton or Andy Willians but nothing current or cutting edge comes from there. I recently saw an Elvis performance of this song from 1970. To my mind it was awful. He was at his best in the 50s and very early 60s. Jailhouse Rock. Hound dog. Heartbreak Hotel. He had an element of personal investment in what he did. Angst. Later on things like In the Ghetto were an odd departure from his blues roots. He went mainstream and catered to a white middle class audience. Maybe Angelina attracts a similar demographic. But she is not trying for that. She is being herself. I think this tribute is not representative of where she is going but what influences her and makes her unique. I think Mt. Everest, a pleasant surprise to her fans, is more representative of her direction. Not a departure but an enhancement. If she shares anything with Elvis it is that her fusion of genres is very likely to create a genre of her own. Just like early Elvis did but abandoned. There is no angst in Vegas. Its pathos and melancholy are hidden behind glitz and glitter. Angelina is a pure spirit unaffected by those dangerous side roads to popularity and wealth. I pray her and her family keep her so. I know hundreds of thousands of her fans share this sentiment.
I understand your concern, I am sure that will be handled as good as possible. If you compare Angelina to Amy, it is the complete opposite. Amys father exploited the fame if his daughter in every sense, Sara is the complete opposite. After observing Sara several times, she is the nicest parent ever, so humble and would never do anything that could harm. Consider this; there are lots of performers that impersonate Elvis, and some can sound just like him. Have you ever experienced someone that sounds like Angelina Jordan, let me be the first to answer that question, and the answer in no. That is because AJ is one of a kind, and on a level that supercedes all others. If you question what I have just stated just listen to the professional voice teachers after experiencing AJ. They all admit that they are speechless because they have never heard anyone like AJ.

My interpretation of the symbolism of this music video: First, and foremost; Angelina Jordan at 16 is the epitome of a Storytelling ARTIST, and she has the ability to take us by the hand and lead us down an imaginary path that we visualize as reality. The remarkable fact is that we experience this in each of her performances. In this video we see her as a married woman in her mid to late 20s. As the video starts out, we see dishes, and it is a symbol of a home. As AJ sings the phrase “Were caught in a trap, I can’t walk out” we see 3 small children, this to me is a marriage where the children come first. If it were AJ by herself, she would not stay in a relation without trust.
AJ adapts the performance to pay homage but then makes it her own and so much better than the original.

She may have had something in mind when she injected each of the things that stood out in the video, and she most likely did. But as with anything of this kind, the symbols are open to the interpretation of the viewer/listener. You introduced some interpretation that I hadn't considered. I'm not saying that's what AJ had in mind, but I like it a lot when someone puts their own take on it, and gives me a story I hadn't considered. The McCarthy brothers were also involved the Beatles song "Yesterday", and AJ was in a shopping basket. The symbolism there was to show her as a "Basket Case".

Regarding performing in Las Vegas I am a bit more concerned. The important driving force should always be her love for performing, not the fake glamour I feel Vegas stands for. When seeing her here in Norway this summer it was so obvious that she really genuinely loves to perform, it is not the status, fame or money that is her driving force, but pure deep love of performing live for an audience. I really hope this is possible to combine, so we all will be able to enjoy this insane gift to the world for many years to come

On vacation here in Vegas and so glad to see you reacting to Angelina Jordan again. Now at 16 she is on the cusp of becoming a young adult and I know that Angelina would be a hit performing at one of the casino theaters. Would be a great way to promote her upcoming album. Well, it was nice to see you guys, if only for a few minutes. Both of you were "Angelina-ized" as she sang 'for you'. She'll be in Vegas within the next 12-18 months. I want to see her at Carnegie Hall.
A little update for you. I'm not 100% sure but I believe her amateur standing is a thing of the past. She just finished performing 3 Concert's in Norway and from this point on all her video's and personal appearances, etc., will be in the hands of Republic Records but I believe she will still have the ability to influence decisions made where and when she will be doing "her thing". Her marriage with Republic Records has been wonderful and I see no reason why their relationship should be disrupted in any way.
Robert She lost her amateur standing years ago when she got paid her first dollar to sing. That dollar made her a professional artist.

That dude playing the piano is Rob Christie Republic Records Studio Director at Universal Music Group Manhattan Beach, California, and he has been working with AJ since she signed with the largest record company in the world at the age of 14, two years ago. Rob was the MC of AJ Christmas Show that aired Dec 23, of 21. AJ’s Christmas Show that live-streamed on Dec 23 of 21 had some of the most important musicians of our time: Frank Sinatra's drummer for 6 years, and sun in-law of the late Henry Mancini, Greg Field has won 9 Grammys, and the bass player, Chuck Berghofer who also played for Sinatra for 6 years, and toured with Barbara Streisand, accompanied AJ on her Christmas Show, and they stated that she had the "storytelling ability of the greats, Streisand, Fitzgerald, Vaughan, including Sinatra, to name a few. Elvis bombed on his first trip to Vegas. Music was too young for the audience. His later tours there were huge as his fans matured and re-lived memories of their youth. Darcy Lynn won AGT and performed in Vegas but I’d bet the casinos didn’t make much on booze sales at her shows.

Okay, so her hair resembles Priscilla’s, the leather jacket like Elvis wore, even the red Hagstom guitar is what Elvis played a lot. She makes every song her own, just like Pentatonix does.
The song was written by Mark James. In the Wikipedia entry of the origins of the song, he is said to have remarked "That late one night, he was fooling around on his Fender guitar and using his Hammond organ pedals for a bass line and came up with what he thought was a catchy melody. At the time, he was married to his first wife but still had feelings for his childhood sweetheart, who was married back in Houston. James's wife had suspicions about his feelings. He felt it was a confusing time for him and that all three were "caught in this trap that they could not walk out of."
Other singers covering this song invariably base their performance on that of Elvis, in that it is very "upbeat". Angelina took a very different path in that she read and understood the lyrics and what Mark James intended when writing them . To my mind, her rendition is much truer to the emotions of the song.
The children appearing in the video were Angelina's cousins Aurora (first) and then Athena - daughters of her uncle Michael Astar, and then her sister Juliette. I would hazard a guess that they were included to emphasise that children are very important to Angelina and her family.
Confession! I have never been a great fan of Elvis Presley, although I do like some of his earlier recordings, and I had never heard of the song "Suspicious minds" but knew that Angelina would completely take ownership of it, and she did. It was beautiful. After listening to it several times, I decided to download the lyrics to see whether she kept to the original structure. She didn't, and the song is all the better for it. For me, that she started with the Bridge of the song is very significant and, I feel, very indicative of Angelina's "up front" transparency. She was declaring that it was important that their love did not die, and then carries on to say why she feels as she does. Others first say how they feel and then, almost as an afterthought, assure their love they don't want it to end. For me, it is whether I feel the singer is genuine about the situation and wishes it could be resolved or whether the singer understands the situation but thinks the blame is on her/his partner but feels the need to assure them they don't want it to end (until somebody else comes along).

Elvis' version is great and it always was, and it still is one of my favorites. but Angelina's version is equally great and is definitely her own.
When I first heard this song I loved it and put it at #3 on my playlist (Angelina Jordan Playlist by Terry M.), about midday I moved it up to #1. The main thing that changed my mind was the power in her voice. I'm not talking about loudness I'm talking about the power she has regardless of how loud or soft she sings. This is a quality that I haven't heard from anyone in my 82 years. This voice has become so unique that it is totally unmatched.
Her phrasing in the last bridge is great. And she got Elvis’s ‘Oh Yea’ at the end of the song.

Sorry guys. I like you but you way off here. Elvis went mainstream and kitchy because he lost his edge. Vegas may provide a good living ala Wayne Newton or Andy Willians but nothing current or cutting edge comes from there. I recently saw an Elvis performance of this song from 1970. To my mind it was awful.
He was at his best in the 50s and very early 60s. Jailhouse Rock. Hound dog. Heartbreak Hotel. He had an element of personal investment in what he did. Angst. Later on things like In the Ghetto were an odd departure from his blues roots. He went mainstream and catered to a white middle class audience. Maybe Angelina attracts a similar demographic. But she is not trying for that. She is being herself. I think this tribute is not representative of where she is going but what influences her and makes her unique. I think Mt. Everest, a pleasant surprise to her fans, is more representative of her direction. Not a departure but an enhancement. If she shares anything with Elvis it is that her fusion of genres is very likely to create a genre of her own. Just like early Elvis did but abandoned. There is no angst in Vegas. Its pathos and melancholy are hidden behind glitz and glitter. Angelina is a pure spirit unaffected by those dangerous side roads to popularity and wealth. I pray her and her family keep her so. I know hundreds of thousands of her fans share this sentiment.
I understand your concern, I am sure that will be handled as good as possible. If you compare Angelina to Amy, it is the complete opposite. Amys father exploited the fame if his daughter in every sense, Sara is the complete opposite. After observing Sara several times, she is the nicest parent ever, so humble and would never do anything that could harm. At the last concert she was very surprised that people actually wanted to talk to her, she said "I am only her mother"
