For anyone who doesn't have substance painter and paints directly into blender, a shader node setup with the Texture Coordinate node running into a vector snap node plugged into the Vector for your model texture will allow you to do pixilation directly in the blender shader tab. You can also apply posterization and dithering there as well using colour ramps and noise textures.
For anyone else trying to get this look, laying out your UVs as squares (or at least straight lines) and making sure they align with the pixels of the resolution of the texture image helps avoid distortion. “UV Squares” is a helpful Blender plugin for this, and there are pixel rounding options in one of the UV editor drop downs. You can also save texture space by overlapping mirrored UVs, although this can cause issues with baking in some cases
@ Baking is when you make textures from one model for use on another, or apply some effect in Blender and transfer that effect into the 2D texture sheet. Like if you made a high poly sculpt and wanted to make a normal map to use on a lower poly mesh, or if you want to apply lighting to a character and burn those shadows into their texture, independent of the lighting
My only gripe with this method is that substance painter costs quite some and it's an overkill for pixel art. Is there something similar to Pixel8R for Blender paint or some free alternative?
