Chapter 2: Defenders of Human Rights and Territories

The campaign "Alas y Raíces de los Movimientos Sociales en Oaxaca" ("Wings and Roots of the Social Movements in Oaxaca") aims to make visible communities and movements in defense of their rights in Oaxaca. Their main criticisims and hopes, as well as the historical structures of inequality towards them, claiming community defense as a human right.
Chapter 2: Defenders of Human Rights and Territories
This chapter presents the perspective of community defenders in Oaxaca. Conflict and violence have led organizations, collectives and communities to organize themselves to build dignified living conditions. Often, defenders face great vulnerability as they are targets of defamation, attacks on their person and their physical safety. This chapter also shows the motivations of defenders to continue fighting and the creativity with which they try to make history by their own means.
