Chapter 5: No to Mining, for a Future for All
This chapter shows the environmental damage caused by the San José mining project in the Central Valleys of Oaxaca. Ten years of mining exploitation have resulted in toxic spills, loss of biodiversity, contamination of land and air, as well as an alarming increase in insecurity. 14 communities in Valles Centrales continue to resist and fight to cancel the mining concessions and revoke the permits granted by the federal government. Chapter 5 records the reaction of the affected communities, who have sought alternatives in their assemblies, as well as initiated mobilization actions and the reconstruction of the social fabric in the Valles Centrales region.
