Something that goes over many people's heads because it's never brought up in the show... we first meet Qyburn as the sole survivor of Harrenhal after the Mountain put it to the torch in-between Seasons 2 and 3. Now Qyburn is working on the Mountain Frankenstein-style... such an _elaborate_ form of revenge.
The Queen of Shade is Lady Olenna. Margaery may be a prized pupil of hers, but she may just have signed her death warrant trying to get sassy with Cersei. She wasn't very smooth in her delivery. And the giggling ladies in Margaery's court only added insult to injury. Cersei is a lioness not to be messed with.
I feel the same way as you girl. Idk why everytime I think about Robb it gets me so emotional. He was SUCH an important character to me I had no idea that he was not a POV character in the books.
Great analysis of the different but analogous situations Robb and Jon found themselves faced with, their different outcomes and how their characters are in the end very different despite their same upbringing and ideology.
“Few of the birds maester aemon had sent off had returned as yet . One reached stannis, though. One found dragonstone, and a king who still cared”. --- samwell Tarly
Stannis, the only king who, even though he was in a war, cared about the war in the north against the White Walkers. A man of principles, of values, fair to his allies and enemies. Too bad these days, few people understand a character with such qualities, if the character isn't 100% cool and a nice guy, they'll roll their eyes.
Calypso, you talk about Rob and JOn. Their differences. Look at what JOn has been through seeing the Whight Walkers, joining the wildlings, climbing the wall, taking 3 arrows from Egret, fighting off Mance raid to his near death. Rob has been leading an army but not gotten bloody from his battles. JOn had a much more gruesome and slower path to leardership, so he knows the price of mistakes. Plus he has learned from the mistakes of other like Commander Mormont. So Jon takes a much different approach to leardership than Rob.
I have just realized, Jorah was at that brothel in Volantis just so he could mess around with a "mother of dragons". Why in the world would he have been there, drunk and melancholic, in a brothel, where he could have done the same in any other tavern or establishment. Damn..
Jorah's statement "I'm going to take you to the queen" was phrased vaguely enough that we were left to wonder which queen he meant... Danerys or Cersei... whose good graces he wanted back into. As you did, I assumed he was referring to Dany when watching for the first time, but I think the intent was to leave it ambiguous to make us wonder. The parallel between Jon punishing Slynt and Dany punishing Mossador is definitely something to look at. We saw how Dany's decision backfired. How will Jon's actions be received? Both are learning on-the-job how to be leaders... the path is often not smooth.
Honor is not what got Ned and Robb killed. It was Arrogance that got them killed. The arrogance of thinking that their honor mattered more than common sense. The arrogance to believe that their honor mattered more than anything else, and the arrogance to not take your enemy or the situation at hand seriously. Being honorable is good and admirable. But honor without wisdom is useless and dangerous.
When Jon executed Slynt was immensely satisfying to watch, he gave Ned a justice, Slynt was always a coward who wears a gold cloak, even now in black. Great performance for Dominic Carter tho, something that Kit Harington also agrees it.

if sansa had stayed in kings landing she would have been charged with murdering the king along with her husband. so she would not have been better off staying there. but this isnt good either.
Denaerys executed a man for murder, and we thought it was a mistake because it made the crowd angry. Jon executed Slynt for temporary disobedience, and we were fine with it because we dislike the guy and it was Jon who did it.
Jon took a necessary decision to ensure the cohesion of a military unit in a dangerous situation. Daenerys blundered her way through an unnecessary display with negative effect. Daenerys is rightfully disliked because she is an emotional, dumb and arrogant lesson giving bitch.
Slynt was not only executed for insubordination... his open admission of cowardice in front of the men could not be tolerated in an environment where each man relied on the man next to him standing shoulder to shoulder with him in a crisis. Even more important was the fact Slynt is part of the privileged "Lord" class at Castle Black and John had actually given him a leadership role which he refused. Where much is given, much is expected.

Interesting reaction, John Snow publicly executed a man simply for saying no, but you disagreed with Danny for the same action, on someone who killed a prisoner and had the body publicly displayed. And you declared Jon Snow a real leader for said action. I always find people's reactions to these two episodes interesting, for that comparison alone.
it's said in the lore, starks were known for beheading their enemies, while targaryens for burning them with their dragons. It's the same. The situation with Dany tho was a mistake on her part, she did try to be just, but justice can't be the same for everyone, otherwise it would be injustice. Let's say a master kill your parents, law say that master should go for trial, but let's say you, the son of those dead bodies, killed the master in rage, law says you murded a man awaiting trial so you should be dead, but is that really JUSTICE? Is law always just? Have you thought about that? Dany shouldn't have killed him, he should be in cells tho, no need to be killed for it. Saying that, Dany is like 13 in the books, she's so dumb sometimes and make these kind of decisions in the wrong way and time.
