    3.3L Naturally aspirated engine, sure it has a very reliable powertrain because of no turbo, or complicated hybrid system. I enjoyed your video. Thanks.

      @@VitaliyKofman even patrol cars may use it. For urban environments plus some departments may not want hybrids.

      I like those naturally aspirated engines as well. The durability factor is good. Buying these used having 130,000 miles on them is like buying a tractor trailer used with the same amount of miles. Good value all around.

    I don't get why column shifters aren't more common, that gives a lot more room for storage in the center console.

    @11:50, that is just the metal plate that the center console mounts to - it protects the traction control inertia sensor below that "!" don't drill in this area stamping.
    @19:17, you pushed the overhead trunk-lock button which starts a 10-second countdown where the rear trunk release button will function... but then you spent the next 12 seconds pushing a bunch of other buttons, finally trying the trunk button at 15 seconds. The key always works.

    I want to find one too!!
    I really like the 3rd row delete, vinyl floors, extra cargo room, and overall performance!
    I have no use for the strobe lights…

      I don't know why column shifters are considered "old". With all the manufacturers trying their button shifters and rotary dials to save space, I'm like - just stick it on the wheel

      Yeah! I loved it on my parents 2004 Ford Escape (only car I ever used with that shifter). Floor shifter just aren’t my thing and now buttons are replacing both kinds of shifters as we have seem with GM’s full size suvs and Honda’s vehicles.

    i have a base 2021 explorer with the 3.3 naturally aspirated its gets up and moves no problems passing people on a mountain has to be more reliable than the turbo models that they are having problems with

    Pretty badass looking. these newer ones look a bit longer and seem to sit lower than the older models. I like. It also has the engine sitting longitudinally. and best of all, it's rear-wheel drive. just like the 'Vic'.

      I'm not an expert on cop cars, but every time I see white or black explorer in my rear view mirror = terror (even thought I don't speed often in my Town Car)

    My insurance broker just bought a 2015 from a private sale. These vehicles are basic equipment but built for work and they are fitted for police use. My friend has a P71 police Crown Victoria black it scares people when he is behind them especially on the highway!

    There’s a timer to open the hatch, i believe it’s like 30 seconds, many 16-19 piu have it too

      45 seconds.
      In 11-19(U502) have a trunk unlock button then 45 seconds.
      In 2020(U625) just regular door unlock then 45 seconds.

      @@PollosHiPerformance there's a no cost option now to eliminate the locking "feature" because departments complained to ford. I think it's new for this model year

    3:43 you can buy a brand new 2020 or 2021 Ford Explorer interceptor just like any other car as long as it’s not equipped with lights or sirens and it’s a bare bones model like such in the video!

      That's not actually true. They only sell new to government or other approved agencies. Civilians can't buy brand new PPV. Sometimes you can find a "used" car with a couple hundred clicks on it, but super rare

    The 3.3 L V6 shows as a credit on the window sticker because the more expensive Hybrid engine is standard on the 2020s and most Departments downgrade to the cheaper regular V6.

      I know Chicago likes the Hybrid ones but like Hamilton said probably the majority of PDs will drop the hybrid and take the 3.3L so no batteries to worry about.

    I enjoyed this video since I own a 2020 Explorer Platinum that I bought last year. I am surprised how basic the police model is but I can see why and it looks like there is enough room to our end equipment in. Not sure the red dome light is bright enough but would be fun to test.
    The biggest disappointment is the 3.3 non turbo V6 engine.

      Thanks for the comment! This is as basic as it gets. Cops get the very basic, but do they really need that super cheap radio? It's almost a joke to ever have that. I never saw a "-" on the window sticker due to engine options.

      @@VitaliyKofman the base engine is the hybrid. It puts out 315 horses. There's the 3.3 downgrade to 285 horses and the 3.5 ecoboost upgrade to 380 horses. Because the base model is the hybrid instead of the actual lower end engine all the components are pricier

      @@staying_spooky Yes I've seen some on AutoTempest but there's no official configurator from Ford, just a catalog. Can you custom order one from a dealership though? It seems you are more knowledgeable on this than most.

    Do y’all think you will get some disadvantages when driving this kinda cars? For example, criminals might wanna get you cuz they might gonna think ur a real police. And a real police might gonna set their eyes on you more? Idk, this might be a problem for people driving this kinda cars.

      I see more police trade ins driving around in the hood than I do anywhere else, it’s because theyre auctioned off and cheaper than buying from a dealer. And people who have frequent run-ins with police KNOW the difference between a cop car and a retired cop car. As for cops, I don’t know what they think about someone driving a police trade in, it’s legal to buy and own. So I don’t think they care one bit

    I understand that this was a learning process for you... But rather than give out the incorrect info, open the glove compartment and pull out the owners manual... It will tell you everything you need to know. Also, if I heard you right, your at the dealership while they're closed on a Sunday? I hope you got permission to look through these vehicles... Or you'll get a hands on lesson about the back seat of the patrol car... Lol

      *Brand new one* - ONLY LEOs can buy/order.
      *Used one* - anyone can buy. I've seen a guy buying a USED(unused) one from a dealer because police department got too many of them so they returned some. But because it was already registered to a department - it cannot be considered new.

    The interior redesign on the 20+ models looks worse than than the previous generation explorer. Too cheap and cheesy looking, Cost cutting perhaps? Just my opinion.

      Yes, this is specifically for Police use. I found this car at a dealership before it's sold to a police department that will do final alterations before it goes into service.
