Great advice. Some good thoughts on what else we can make her 'earn'. We are on week 3 with our Doberman Puppy. We've been strict and consistent and I'm starting to see the reward. It is insane how smart they are, she tries to figure out every way she can to get around our rules. She can earn some of the comfort things later (couch time etc). She absolutely will pause when I give her a command to see if she truly has to. We're holding our ground and are seeing improvement. Day 4-14 was.....intense 😲

Thanks for watching and sharing your experience. It's not uncommon to have some really intense puppy days and it's great you're seeing results already from your hard work. Keep at it!

I notice this video is 3 years old and I have been watching current videos and implementing your training techniques. That said, I rescued a 8 month old female Dobie in Feb 2023. She was very traumatized and it took months for me to gain her trust and get her to be less fearful. Her potty training has been very challenging. She is finally peeing outside and sometimes poops outside. Initially, she would only poop on concrete or asphalt surfaces and she would sometimes just stop in the middle of a street or on the sidewalk and poop. Most of the time she would just go inside. We live in a condo and that added to the problem, but it is a 1st floor condo and access to outside is easy. When we brought Nellie home we had an 8 yo dobie, but he died 2 months ago. When we brought Nellie home we had just lost our 12 yo Golden Retriever. Both our older dogs had great toilet training habits and never had accidents in the house, but I had gotten both dogs as puppies of 9 weeks. Any further advice you can offer for potty training an older dobie that clearly was not trained properly as a young puppy?

That was SO useful! I've been following your main channel since 8,000 subs and honestly, even your advice has gotten better! So happy for you and your success! Your passion is showing and that is why I'm literally keeping notes even though I don't have my dog yet, I soon will and I want to be as prepared as possible!

@@willathertondobermanshow2380 I’ve been learning about dogs all my life! I’ve bought books, I watch videos, tv shows and read about them every day! I want to be the ideal dog owner/leader, and even though I know I’m going to make mistakes as nothing can replace learning from experience, I’m hoping to make the most minimal mistakes and still manage to be the best owner I can be for my future dog.

Will, our Doberman, Arwen, is amazing, beautiful 1 year and 5 months old, and socialised, potty trained, and knows already many commands. One issue though is - well, we are working on recall, she’s getting much better - but the issue is she pulls on the leash. She goes beside us but ALWAYS ahead by almost the whole body. We have to use a prong collar now and even though she loves us, she doesn’t look at us when we walk her, she’s looking everywhere, even if it’s the second time on the day that we take her out. We take her on runs every day, fetch ball or frisbee, and she runs a lot for at least 40 mins to an hour sometimes. We allow for rest, etc. This is really good but immediately after putting on the leash, she starts pulling again. We have tried to teach her “heel” and whenever we say that command, she runs back to our side (on the leash) and then starts pulling again! We have tried several strategies BUT we don’t want to try another one because we think she might get confused… anyway
Please help! Thanks Will! We love your vids!

How do you suggest potty training when both people are at work. There is only like a 4 hour time period, but still trying to figure this one out.

Does anyone know how long I am going to have my entire life consumed by the puppy? Seriously I'm not sure how long the early days go on. I'm new to all of this. My 6 week old doberman was a gift (not planned, husband wanted him but now I'm taking care of him lol) and he was also too young to leave mom which we didn't know lol so hes literally like a little baby.

Small tip if you want more subscribers: Stop repeating the video title. I'm 1/10 through the video, the intro is over, and you are still repeating what everybody already knows. It's super annoying.
