    Excellent - thank you! Adopted a rescue Dobie (at 4 weeks; he’s now 9 months) and we’re going through the mouthy, nipping at ankles phase currently. Thinking he needs to be exercised harder than our current three times daily walk; liking the idea of mental exercise as well (recall, fetch, etc).

    I looove them. Only good expiriences. All the ones i met (or the one i had) were very, very sweet, loving and calm. He loved to cuddle up and chill....when he got out his energy outside! Such a great breed for so many puposes. Protection, exersice, cuddeling, loyalty, smartness....all in one!

    The Doberman is the absolute best all around breed of dog. Intelligence, loyalty, protection and beauty all
    wrapped up in one package. Doberman's can truly do everything well and their intelligence is incredible. If you've never had a Doberman you don't know what you are missing. I recommend that anyone thinking about a Doberman or that has a Doberman and hasn't learned the dogs history, to go and learn the real history of the breed. Louis Doberman "built" this breed and knowing its history and original purpose will help anyone to understand what this breed is really about. They really are the "do it all" dog breed and they have the beauty as well.

    I’ve got quite a bit of forest land. My Shepkita barely, chewed one shoe, as a puppy. Having lived in town with 2 German Shepherd’s…they ripped the siding off the house! I cannot wait for my Doberman. It will be great to walk again, as Max got older, we slowly stopped our long walks. He’s been gone one year. I miss him dearly. It’s time for a puppy! Thanks for your content. I’m wondering if you can lead me to a great breeder.

    Yes, THANK YOU! Such a Good video!
    More people, who are interessted in this beautiful breed, need to know about this.
    There are way too many people getting themselves a Dobermann puppy, without the propper knowlege.
    Which is why so many of them get rehomed at about 1,5 years of age. People just underestimate them and their needs. And it is just the saddest thing.
    For examle: I adopted a mess of a Dobermann a few years ago (Love on forst sight really). Been told he was difficult and had aggressive tendencies. And I mean, he was pretty reactive but mostly out of frustration, lack of leadership and ALL THE ENERGY.
    So what do you do with a dog that has no structure and a lot of pent up energy? To me it was clear that before I can even think of starting training, he needed to be allowed to get tired. And of course building a routine he can fall back to, whenever he is uncertain or insecure.
    So today, after a lot of "setting boundries" and giving him a propper daily exercise routine and rules he can abide by he is the most loving, silly and happy dog.
    We're not perfect but the work we put into eachother bonded us to a degree I could not have foreseen, honestly. Perfect for me. ;)
    Looking forward to learn more on this beautiful channel.
    Much Love from Germany!

    My Doberman Athena loves bike rides I had to do a little bit of work with her for a little while recently because we had some unfortunate experiences in my last neighborhood, where we were ambushed by 2 German shepherds and one pitbull and no owner anywhere in sight. More then once…. Fortunately, my girl is well trained, and I protected her with my bike. while she guarded my back.
    Athena’s not reactive with other dogs unless they’re charging towards her, which is understandable. I don’t know how those dogs kept getting out on such a regular basis… but now she’s doing a lot better since we moved to an area where people actually respect leash laws.
    I’ve also seen some people work out there Dobermans with go karts if that’s your kind of thing.

    I run him up and down steep grassy hills , I throw the ball down the hill and he goes down and so do I and then I throw the ball up the hill and he runs up so do I. When I get tired I get him on flat ground and I throw and he runs and brings it back. Check this out, hes only 3 months. A European black XL bone. He's a real maniac. We live alone in a house with a fenced in backyard im a successful retired WWF pro wrestler I train everyday. Hes going to give me a real run for my money when he's grown. Listen to me, these dog's are so unreal and so smart. They are nonstop if you let them but Im his leader and he knows it. You have to be a real man's man 💪 to have one. I love him very much and he sticks to me wherever I go. God has blessed me with this handsome dog and I take care of him like the son I never had. His name is Rocky !

    I absolutely LOVE that you’ve got a channel dedicated to Dobermans!
    Will I have a question! I work for Hidden Fence of Minnesota & I’m considering getting a Doberman! They’re my favorite dogs and are amazing to work with. So intelligent!!!
    I want to train my dog to be able to do everything but mainly protecting the homestead.
    Realistically, how long would it take to be able to learn that? Is that sort of thing a day 1 rule they just ‘get’? I’ve seen these guys learn how to respect the underground dog fence in less than an hour, but it seems like a very simple concept to grasp, whereas guarding the home seems like it takes much longer...granted, these guys are natural guard dogs. I feel like a lot of it comes down to the personality of the dog and the amount & level of training I put into it. Just my thoughts...what are yours?

      I have a 1 and 1/2 yr old Doberman who in the last two - three months has just naturally started protecting my house. Mostly from birds and rabbits LOL. I spent a ton of time socializing him and was fearing I may have over done it, but over the weekend my neighbor he doesn't know walked in the yard, and he did his job perfectly. So in my case I'd say they just know it, and it just happens. Hope that helps.

    • @paicer
      @paicer 4 роки тому

      Mare Shank that’s awesome! Love it, but I’m a little confused about what you mean when you say he did his job “perfectly.” Was he barking and kinda standing his ground?

    • @mareshank9454
      @mareshank9454 4 роки тому +1

      @@paicer yes he was barking. It was for sure intimidating especially if you don't know him. But he settles in once he sees I ok with the person. I don't want to worry he will bite people at random. But you would have to be stupid to approach him when he's carrying on if I'm not there. He is pretty large and just that scares people.

We've got a Doberman that is perhaps mixed with some sort of hound right now that my friend/neighbor is fostering and I've been training with and helping her to rehabilitate after he was found in a horrible state. He's the first Doberman either of us have dealt with hands on, and it's been an interesting experience!

    When should a dobie start to run on a treadmill?

  • @Goliad_Respector
    @Goliad_Respector 2 роки тому

    Most people who want a Doberman have no business getting one, if we’re being 100% honest. Unless you have quite a bit of experience training a smart dog (even better if you trained them in specific tasks like hunting, herding since a Doberman is a working breed).
    If you don’t know if you have enough experience with dogs for a Doberman then you DONT! Your Doberman has to be your priority for at least 1 year.
    With the Doberman you’re going to need a minimum of one long training/exercise session per day WITH some smaller/shorter sessions on either side of your long session.
    Try and get them at LEAST one day of an all day/all afternoon exercise such as a difficult 3-8 mile hike. I’ve found that a solid 5 miles on Sat or Sunday is perfect for tiring them out just enough so you have at least 3-4 days of recovery where you’ll be able to just give them about 2-3 - 20 minute exercise sessions and get back to work.
    I think the MOST important thing to consider is that IMO I think there must be someone at home with your dobie for most of the time unless they have a large outdoor space.
    For example, do NOT get a dobie if you’re a single person living in an apartment, PLEASE DO NOT! Unless you work from home and can take him or her out during the day.
    The scariest trend I’ve seen is that due to the low marriage rate and the rise in crime especially in the cities ppl just get “protection breeds” and don’t ever think of the damage they will cause to the dog and even others if they treat getting a Doberman like they treat finding a significant other, like they can just swipe left or right and find the cute puppy. It should be a crime.
    Just make sure you’re ready to make your Doberman your number 1 focus for a year minimum. And within the top 3 for the rest of his or her life.
    ***TEACH THE DOG FETCH! Try and arouse their prey drive when they’re puppies and get them to play fetch like a retriever. The BEST way to get them enough exercise hands down.

  • @ferza3442
    @ferza3442 2 роки тому

    I just ran into your super channel. If I ran into it is because I am looking for information. My Doberman just turned one year. Some people say he’s ready to run and others say to wait longer. I started doing three miles walk with sprints and jogging(like a mile). In the afternoon we play fetch where he goes all out(speed) and flirt stick . 15min each activity. Is that to much? He wants more but Iam scare to push it.

    Awesome video. Do you have any recommendations for siezures in a European Doby? He is seeing a vet, but the best results we've gotten is through CBD oil. Full spectrum. The vet can't endorse it but said, "I'm not going to tell you to stop something's that's by all evidence helping symptoms." CBD helped more in the severity dept, not frequency. He seems to have them with excitement, or nervousness. I.e. someone rings a doorbell or if he's home without any humans. He was abused severely as a puppy into young adulthood. Was extremely timid, but in 2.5 years love and patience has worked wonders he's a super loyal sweetheart now. Even protective when he feels needed. Just looking for ideas from a pro. Thanks! We have a 7 month old male doberman named Kingsley and we aren't runners but we do take him to dog parks and offleash on the wooded trails behind our apartment. His recall is coming along nicely and we do notice that he can get destructive when not exercised so we have learned to take him offleash and let him run at least once a day. But our issue is he is still having accidents about 50 per cent of the times he goes to the bathroom daily. I cant figure out how to break him of this habit at 7 months. Please help if you can. We do everything
    Fetch
    Bite work
    Swimming
    Tracking
    You name it
    My 1yo Doberman is never tired and constantly demands for games.
    His Behavior is great. He’s super obedient, calm when im not home. No destroying or anything.
    But he constantly wants to play and chases me around the house with a toy.
    So I was hoping this video could offer some kind of an everyday routine to tire the guy up
    But yeah. As I said. A lot of theory and 0 practical information.
