    This won the video of the year for that year. It's still considered one of the greatest music video's of all time. Nobody else did anything like this.

    There have been many great music videos throughout the decades but for me this is my favourite of them all. It's beautifully told, the concept and animation is timeless and the song is so cheerful and emotional every time I hear it puts me in a good mood. It's great to see when all different art forms come together and are in sync something memorable is created for all different generations to appreciate.

    I get so melancholic when I listen to those 80s songs. I was born 1973, I was 11 When this came out, I was a Boy with no worries, I thougt I could conquer the world, although I didnt knew anything about the world! Now I am 47, I did not conquer the world! and I feel like ... so sad

    • @almostfm
      @almostfm 5 років тому +1

      It's actually an old technique called "rotoscoping", and was invented back in the 1890s.
      You film a scene and then go in and hand draw the action for each individual frame, which allows the animation to have a very lifelike motion. If you've ever seen "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", "Cinderella" or "An American Tale", then you've seen rotoscoping in action.
      For the video they took the technique and did it in the style of a comic-that was what really made the video.

      But it was not necessarily drawn, in the purest sense of that word. The process used was "rotoscoping" which has been around since the 1900's. They filmed the video normally then basically traced over (rotoscoped) it to get the animated sections. According to Wikipedia it too 16 weeks to complete.

    James , you are young and I am old. However, I never heard a lot of these songs either because i was in an old country and old rock n roll band for 6 years starting in 1980. Talk about old school to you but we really had some great music to listen to and play. I mean we played music from the 80's back to the 50's and before that even. It's nice to hear what we missed out on as well as what you missed out on. It's so fun and enjoyable. Yes, we were around when Elvis was alive. Talk about some music and entertainment! I am a 64 year old woman and previous musician/singer. So, keep doing what you're doing. We really enjoy it and you. You do a fantastic job! God Bless.

    I knew you would get it! The rotoscope was the first of its kind at this time and everyone was enthralled with this video. Also remember there were no UA-cams or VEVOs where we could watch it over and over.

    Hey JBLETHAL, I'm glad you did a reaction to this. It is classic 80's synth rock music from Europe, in this case Norway! Whenever they perform this song anywhere today, that signature keyboard melody at the start -- always gets the crowd cheering and dancing. And man, go wild with researching and listening to '80's music! After all its still available anywhere. There was so much of it from both black and white Gen-X artists, and it had a freshness to it that was really needed after '70's pop and disco and funk and rock had pretty much run their courses. Thanks for this video, I'll keep tuning in!

    I like how many people say how come you haven't listened to the older music, but a lot of older people do not even try to listen to music nowadays. I feel lucky that I had the chance to listen to all different kinds of music growing up & I'm still learning about the new music of today, there's so much great singers / groups.around too.

    Arguably the best video ever! You may be amazed now, but if you consider that when it was made, most music videos were concert type videos, it’s astounding!

    There is a part of me that kind of wishes I was your age to have my mind blown by this music as I hear it for the first time. I was born '73, so I know most all of these songs, singing along with them half the time. but, yeah, sometimes i think... these songs are in all the movies...but then i realise they WERE in all the movies when I was growing up. yeah, born 95, most of your memories are going to be AFTER the new millenium, 95% or more. and they don't use the older music so much in the new movies. some do, still, but not as frequently as they once did. so of course you don't know them, or only know a few lines like "turn around" which i've also just watched your reaction to. keep going man, keep exploring the universe of music. keep expanding your mind and ours too, bringing back memories or forging new ones to the awesome music from all eras. just know, sometimes you won't like a song, and that is okay man. even with an eclectic taste in music, even loving all music from classical to metal and everything in between, there are songs I don't really like, some i just hate. maybe not many, but they're out there. and that is okay, not every song is for every person.

    The animated stuff was actually filmed with the cast and singers and then an animator pretty much rotoscoped it. My favorite song from the 80's and of all time. Keep up the great work! You're the best.

    All of the effects in "Take On Me" were hand drawn using a process called rotoscoping.
    The best computers could do in 1985 were the blocky animated characters in Dire Straits' "Money for Nothing" which debuted the same year.

    I was little when this came out and it was groundbreaking video and fantastic song. Holds up still all these decades later. I’m showing my age lol. Those same people saying those things probably don’t know major opera songs or all classical songs. There is no one alive that knows every song. Virtually impossible. 😂
