- Video Correction Notes:
Use Surround Mode in lieu of Standard Mode. Standard Mode is limited to 7.1.4 channels and Surround Mode utilizes all 11.1.4 channels.
The Samsung Q990D is really impressive compared to a full 5.1.4 Dolby Atmos setup with a receiver.
Pros:
Volume output of soundbar and subwoofer. I had this at level 21 and it was plenty loud.
No speaker wiring. Only power wiring to speakers and subwoofer along with HDMI to soundbar.
Immersive Sound.
Easy setup with WiFi.
Space Fit Sound Pro which basically calibrates the speakers with a mic like a receiver would, so you know you're getting the most out of your speakers.
7-Band Equalizer when not in Q-Symphony mode.
SmartThings App to adjust settings without the soundbar remote and small display on soundbar.
HDMI 2.1 passthrough for the gamers out there who want to get the high bandwith, resolution, and refresh rates out of their TVs.
Cons:
I could tell where the subwoofer was located in the room. Could also just be difference between the locations and floor types.
Q-Symphony greys out the Equalizer and won't allow adjustments besides tone adjustments to Bass and Treble.
Overall:
For the price point, this is a great alternative to get an immersive sound without paying a premium for a true Dolby Atmos setup and hassle of paying a professional to wire the speakers. Sometimes with my true setup, I have a hard time hearing the dialogue. That's probably due to the center channel not being at the right elevation due to the entertainment center I have downstairs. However, with this soundbar that would definitely not be an issue especially with the Adaptive Sound and Active Voice Analyzer. - Розваги
I also have this same model. Best purchase i've made in many years. When you connect your Spotify app with the bar, it will makes use of all speakers and it sounds amazing.
That’s an awesome feature. Didn’t know that. Thanks for sharing.
I just bought it any tips for setup besides just use adaptive sound and space fit pro and all that. Best place to put rears?
@@jarvis541 I would assume they made the drivers per the Dolby Atmos setup for a 5.1 system as shown at link.

Thank you for the review! I have the Q 990 C and I bloody love that thing!
If you have a cheap Soundbar and you move to this thing it's a beast... it's unbelievable it's like you're in a movie theater.
Yeah I was surprised on how good it sounded. And I didn't even know Standard mode limited the channels. Sounds even more immersive in Surround mode now taking full advantage of the 11.1.4 now.
@@themexican45 wanting to know , have you tried listening to music solely in the sound bar rather on movies . If yes , how does that differ ?
@@sujanpradhan9580 I think the Q990D sounds good with music. The bass feels tight and not as boomy as I thought it would like my Onkyo subwoofer. You can always EQ the setup based on your music genre.
thanks. i was really truly curious about this soundbar. 'ppreciate the review.
Great video man. Enjoyed it thoroughly. Keep it up 😊
Thank you :)
Helpful video, thanks
Active voice amplifier should only kick in, if it detects noises in your house over a certain db, such as a vacuum cleaner - it will boost the centre speaker. Good review 👍
Thanks for the clarification. It will help others out.
Nice!
Just a question, how long are the power cords on the rear surround speakers? Thanks in advance!
Approximately 5 ft. It’s really short. You can buy cables from Amazon that are longer if needed. CableCreation Angle Power Cord Samsung Replacement.
Thanks!
Would you suggestieve d over the c model ? I always want all the new features , unless they are very marginal ?
I haven’t heard the differences but watched Stop the FOMO’s video to see the comparisons and I would say the price difference between the two is probably not justifiable. If you need the 4k120hz pass through for gaming, then maybe it would be worth it.
@@themexican45 it’s €400 euros more in Holland. Thanks for the tip , that’s a lot of money in the pocket
id say if you want the 120hz while gaming get that but right now on amazon its $1700 while the C is $970. As of 7/1/2024. I game but i cant justify paying 800 more dollars for the 4k 120hz
did you buy 3rd party speaker stands? Are they mounted to the stand or just loose? What stands did you buy?
@@Bloodstryke I have them mounted on 3rd party speaker stands. They come with some adhesive pads . I didn’t take the sticker portion off since I don’t see anyone bumping into them on accident since they are against the wall.

You can not have 11.1.4 ch atmos in standard mode
Interesting. You are correct. Manual says 7.1.4 for Standard mode. You only get 11.1.4 with the other sound modes. I’ll probably switch to Surround mode then.
I think the bass is directional because you have the sub in the corner. Place it nearer your TV stand.
I have a 21” sub downstairs in the corner and can’t tell really where it’s coming from with an 80hz crossover, which is the most common crossover frequency to avoid subwoofer localization. I tried crossover at 100-120hz for the 21” downstairs and could start telling where bass was coming from during some content.
Different room and slab vs 2nd floor, so maybe that plays a factor too.
Typically, I’d think you probably want the sub in the corner, so your bass is louder with wall reinforcement. I moved the 21” subwoofer downstairs around the whole living room (including near field behind sofa) and ended up 3 feet from front left corner. Used REW and UMIK to do the frequency sweeps.
Dragon for 2k more
Too much money for a home theater I think…
Terrible review
Terrible comment. The irony is lost on you. What’s your reason for this comment?
I personally think it’s a good review with a lot of specific setting suggestions which are helpful to ignorant peeps like myself.
He could go with a mic though. And I don’t really need to see the guy while showing things on the tv. I’d rather hear him more clearly and see the tv closer up.
