What is so great about this cinematic is that this is the actual start of the game. The next thing the player sees after logging in is this cinematic, then straight to character selection. The cinematic is showing the player the three classes they can choose from at the start of the game. Then you're out and playing in the same open environment you saw in the cinematic. It's brilliant.
The "wake up" and "dream" references the game's story most impactful parts. It's a really good touch that most will miss unless they played through the story.
Me: sees a film maker reacts episode, gets excited for overwatch Me: sees its not overwatch gets sadd Me: sees its warframe gets even more excited Chris: have you seen ridge wallet!
Something I absolutely love about this cutscene is that Volt (the third one) has a speed boost ability, and in his cutscene he's not dodging the bullets, he's fast enough that he's trying not to run into them and even bats one out of his path On top of that, all the Dax soldiers in the background are moving in slow motion because of it
Dis you know the voice that tells the story it's actually one of the community managers? Her name's Rebbeca and they stream almost everyday in each platform (pc, console and Switch)
Chris: "C'mon.... Don't cut it -" * cuts * Sorry bro, that's reserved for new players. Btw, I know it's a bit late, but I'm curious on your reaction to League of Legends' Odyssey trailer.
The guys who made this also made the opening cutscenes for sekiro, destiny 2 and probably a few other games. They are REALLY damm good at making opening cutscenes.
Alright then, I have some things to say about this one myself, but I want to clear some things up first. This trailer isn't really meant as a welcome back for veterans, rather being the first thing a new player gets to see, if they were to start playing right now, showing off the power of the starting warframes and the starting weapons, between which a new player will have to choose. The first warframe is called Excalibur, the second one is Mag and the third is Volt, just so you don't get confused when I refer to them by name, not number later on. Let's start with the positives: Everything about this looks absolutely gorgeous and the fight choreography is pretty good, much better than the stuff DE (the developers of Warframe) themselves have been pulling off as of late, because their skills in that department are somehow on a steady decline (isn't practice meant to make people better at their job, not worse?). And no doubt, the sword shockwave and the redirection of all those bullets by Mag were the most badass things out of this whole trailer. As for criticisms, however, I've got quite a few: Like I said before, this trailer is meant to introduce the capabilities of the starting weapons and warframes. Such a task requires careful balance between all of the pieces shown, which is not achieved here. Excalibur gets most of the runtime and yet, he does not get to show off all of his skills. Half of his abilities go unused in fact, specifically his Radial Blind (releases a blinding light from his blade) and his Radial Javelin (rams his blade into the ground to launch a bunch of energy javelins at nearby enemies). Though all of his scenes are pretty solid. Mag has a pretty spotty performance. Before she falls from the sky, she is actually flying using an Archwing, that gets destroyed in a head-on collision with a missile mere seconds after it is introduced, the camera not really doing a first time viewer any favors here. In all the other scenes, she is in, she is effectively stationary (in a game about space ninjas...) and also only ever gets to use two thirds of her arsenal, as Mag has the ability to also Magnetize an enemy, drawing all nearby shrapnel and projectiles towards them and she can emit a pulse with Polarize, that breaks up the armor of nearby enemies, leaving floating shrapnel in the affected area. Volt gets absolutely buried beneath the others in comparison. He starts out by running across a battlefield, which is moving in complete slow motion, while he is moving in real time, something the camera work manages to accidentally hide because the camera is moving so much and Volt barely interacts with the battlefield during the time, his Speed is in effect. Then he casts his Electric Shield in a way, that makes literally no sense. Sure, it looks cool, when he dives through it while Shocking the closest enemy, but the shield does not act as such. Not to mention, that he can actually pick it up and run around with a tower-shield style version of it, amping up all the damage, that passes through it from behind, which could be used for quite some cool effects. Volt also doesn't get to use his Discharge, an aoe wave of electricity, that keeps struck targets electrified for a few seconds, creating quite the light show, if used in the middle of a raging battlefield such as the one, he was in for all of his action sequences. Weapon wise, I also have complaints, namely that Excalibur is using the Nikana, instead of the Skana, which is the actual starting sword, a new player gets to choose, the Braton (an assault rifle) and the Lato (a semi-auto pistol) are completely abscent, despite them being potentially very useful to Mag, and the Paris (the bow) should have been used by Volt, because his Passive is a very obvious one, which would have also made its ability to shoot down an entire enemy dropship with a single arrow much more plausible: As he moves on the ground, he steadily builds up an electrical charge, which is channeled into his next attack, something, that could have been easily shown off by doing the following scene: The camera looks at his feet as he runs, showing sparks jumping between them and the ground with every step, he takes. That electricity then slowly moves upwards, followed closely by the camera, as he performs a bullet jump (a spiraling, fast long jump), at the apex of which, the electricity reaches his already drawn back bow and arrow, allowing him to release the projectile with lightning trailing after it, until it hits the ship, letting all the built up electricity dance across its hull after the explosive impact. So yeah, that would be my input on this trailer, which, although very beautiful, still has a couple of flaws, especially considering the function it is meant to serve as an introduction of the starter warframes and starter weapons to new players.
I agree greatly that it's all about introduction and only Excalibur was really introduced. However I think it's not bad that some abilities weren't shown, as it keeps new players engaged. My only real issue is that Volt had little to no screen time and he was heavily marginalized. In my eyes high speed running could have been better shown if the focus went to the battlefield for a second to show it's all moving in slow motion. Or it started with focus on slowed down battlefield and then transitioned into Volt rushing through in high speed. The shooting down scene you envisioned was perfect, and it could transit perfectly into him landing amongst his comrades to finish the scene. Wouldn't take much more time but the transition would be brilliant. However after typing it all I think that last impressions would be influencing new players' choice too heavily, which is why filmmakers decided to strip Volt of his screen time in favor of the whole squad doing things. And let's face it, Excalibur IS the face of warframe. :)
@@Neriehem Yeah definitely agree, especially with Volt being very badly represented. Volt is one of my fave warframes and they really did him dirty in this cinematic, all while glorifying Excalibur which has always been the lamest frame to me. And since this is the new start of the game for new players and right after this cinematic you have to pick your first frame, it really should have introduced each of them better.
The sword shockwave *is* Radial Javelin, and the Paris shooting down the dropship was to preview the Thunderbolt mod. Magnetize was used when Mag caught all the bullets (not how it works in game)
@@AbyssalMerc Huh, didn't notice the shockwave sound being that of the Radial Javelin. Seems like I was too focussed on the fact, that it didn't send out projectiles so I just assumed it was a cinematically oversized slam attack. That Paris using the thunderbolt mod is plausible. Mag's Magnetize, however, can actually more or less do the thing, it does in the trailer now, you just need to hold the ability button to trigger that effect instead of tapping it, meaning that only one of the two effects of Magnetize were shown in the trailer.
They didn't show it in cinematic but actually in-game that characters(Excalibur) ultimate shots energy cuts like Getsuga Tenshou whenever you swing your sword. So well it really does feel like playing Ichigo in the game lol.

I never really thought about film making techniques but you made this so interesting, especially the fact that you went over the clever things that they did to make the film. Really interesting, also good that this is my favourite game too
It always blows me away (especially in this video and ESPECIALLY in Astartes) how these irl masterful cinematography skills are used in a FULLY ANIMATED video! The amount of work and patience and passion that must go into these is just breathtaking
Dude, you really should return when you have some time! It has become an AMAZING game with deep, deep lore and awesome action and cutscenes without end!
Maybe don’t make your builds that powerful, because warframe is a power fantasy, you’ll end up with room clear metas. I found some fun in building only for efficiency and range, whatever else is fitting.
@@NotHeitu so I’m suppose to never use the mods I’m given and only play half the game then? It’s not my fault DE doesn’t know how to properly scale enemies. Steel path is ok but other than that I hardly worry about dying
@@natemcdevitt9384 I’m not telling you to never use the mods you’re given. The point of mods is so you can decide how you want to play the game. The game is a power fantasy, there’s no easy way to scale enemies. It’s a power fantasy in which you can “obliterate the map,” so don’t act disappointed when you dedicate your build for room clearing and expect the enemies to put up a fight. With CC being the meta, it’s especially more difficult to scale enemies for a challenge. If DE does anything more in like making enemies immune to CC or whatever similar effect to make the game challenging, it’ll literally take the fun and purpose of having such build. tl;dr Warframe is a power fantasy game. With what mods you have, you can decide what you want to do to an extent, whether you choose to play with nothing to having an insane room clear build.
What i really appreciate if you Chris is that you react through the whole video without pausing, then after you give your review and analysis on it. I sometime dislike it when people react a video and pause talk about it and then resume. Good stuff!
Chris - World of Warcraft just released their first of 4 animated shorts for the new expansion. Called Afterlives: Bastion. Would love to see you react to it. Totally different art style, but so cool
The universe in the eye tipping you off to the power of the person you're watching, the Grineer wading through the water that was just moments ago supposed to be at least fifteen feet deep telling you that something is very off about this person, the wispy effects of the transference, even the part where she was "A little too chill for someone being hunted", so much about this tips you off in tiny little ways to things in this universe. I can only imagine how it must have felt for new players to see this trailer before playing and then to reach that one specific point in the story and just have it all come together like that.
Chris. World of Warcraft just released a new cinematic for their upcoming expansion called bastion and you need to check it out. Super badass and crazy
What I think really makes this cinematic good is that it is actually in the game and has a purpose that, mostly, aligns with the plot and later plot twists. And it introduces three characters in badass ways before telling a new player, in awe, to choose one of these fighters to play as. Context for this makes it so much better.
so where this cutscene cuts is exactly where the initial tutorial level picks up : you pick one of the three frames (excalibur, mag, volt) and take off
My favorite part of the trailers is that the stuff the frames and characters do are the things they do in game, like its obviously a lot more fluid and realistically synergized and animated, but all the skills you see are things you can do in game, take down enemies with stealth while your kubro doggie helps, deflect bullets with your sword, form a sort of electro sword from thin air, collect and fire bullets back at the enemy , hell there's a frame that just straight takes enemy guns and fires them back at them.
I really would love to see your reaction to another warframe cinematic. It is called the "Duviri Paradox". It is another really awesome piece of animated goodness.
i love his child like enthusiasm and reactions, its reactions i think a lot of people have internally but are too "mature" to show it. Love these videos
The reason the cinematic cuts off at the point shown is, because it's the introduction for the new tutorial. After you see the hand moving, you can choose on of the three Warframes and then fight the Grineer. The area of the new tutorial is just as beautiful as the cutscene. I legit spent an hour in there replaying the tutorial, just looking at the scenery. Thanks for the amazing analysis
When you've been playing Warframe from the begining and then you see this, you can be proud and happy. Obvious this was going to be pretty and Amazing.. it's Warframe, it can't be Bad.
I have to appreciate the way you do ads. You're not loud, you're not ''animated'' int e sense that you're trying to sell it based on excitement factor alone and you genuinely seem into what you're sponsored by. A lot of other similar channels could really learn from that imo.
Spoilers for people who haven't played the game: Just a bit of context for people who don't play and read on, the tenno(children) control what is called warframes that have unique set of abilities.
@@FenekkuKitsune Lets just not over-hype the Second Dream, by the time you reach that point you know whats going to happen, or at least you have strong suspicions, if we keep telling new players "oh, its a big reveal, cant spoil it" they'll surely will be disappointed as much as me. Besides, that quest was released, what? 5 years ago? 4?
As someone who has mained mag for a while I can confirm that her abilities hit like trains and when you have a massive groups of enemies in front of you and you do you pull ability and they all die it's pretty satisfying
Chris, love the reaction video. This is my favorite game of all time. I have well over 2,000 hours invested in this game and I’m still not at max rank, nor finished crafting/using all the weapons. What I really wanted to let you know about this trailer, though, is how much story, and lore is embedded throughout the cinematic that you have no idea is there without having played through a major chunk of the game. It is all hidden in plain site, so as not to spoil the game’s story for anyone who hasn’t played, but is so rich in all the elements that are interactive throughout the game. I’m a “movie trailer junkie” according to my wife, and she’s not wrong. This is by far my favorite trailer for my favorite game ever. 😎 Second favorite is an 80’s cartoon opening theme created for Warframe by RustyFIN. I would love to see your reaction to this one as well!! ua-cam.com/video/x7uMDdzv408/v-deo.html
I've watched this cinematic countless times but this is the first time I've seen someone breaks it down in such a way as to understand the techniques used to make this cinematic epic...well done. 👏👍
Forgive me if someone else has mentioned this but the reason the cinematic is so well done is because it is made by Digic Pictures and directed by Dan Trachtenberg ( directed shows like "The Boys", "Black Mirror" and "10 Cloverfield Lane"). Additionally, almost everything shown in the cinematic was motion-captured and there is a lot of lore that is hidden in plain sight that players that has gone through the story will pick up on.
I wanna watch every movie, every episode of every show, every video and every funny commercial even, with Chris. I feel so emotionally flat compared to his reactions and seeing his excitement really rubs off on me to make me appreciate what im looking at.
Excalibur is sort of a swordsman. He is the more balanced warframe to start with. Mag manipulates magnetic fields. The power of holding incoming bullets was new in this trailer. It has now been implemented into the game. Volt is the fast frame. Electric power caster. Very fun as well.
Hey Chris - I think you should take a look at the World of Warcraft cinematic called 'Old Soldier'. It is a part of the series with the orcs and human king and the evil elf-chick, but it was edited out of the one you saw here on your channel. It is slower paced than others but it gives you a bit more context to the characters.
Mag, Magnetic, shes not summoning bullets, shes literally pulling the ones fired at her into her field, then using said magnetism to return them to sender, love that
On Volt's (the third guy) flashback, the transition technique is the same as the other two, but the anchor in the scene is the lotus flower instead of the character.

The "wake up" and "dream" references the game's story most impactful parts. It's a really good touch that most will miss unless they played through the story.
after playing that game for almost 7 years and knowing what happend in the old war, everytime i watch this cinematic give's me goosebumps :-)
Me: sees a film maker reacts episode, gets excited for overwatch
Me: sees its not overwatch gets sadd
Me: sees its warframe gets even more excited
Chris: have you seen ridge wallet!
I can see an overwatch and Warframe crossover
Something I absolutely love about this cutscene is that Volt (the third one) has a speed boost ability, and in his cutscene he's not dodging the bullets, he's fast enough that he's trying not to run into them and even bats one out of his path
On top of that, all the Dax soldiers in the background are moving in slow motion because of it
As a Mag main, I love how they captured her in this animation, my girl is beautiful!!!
And how they gave her a new ability based on the cinematic? Yeah me too
Dis you know the voice that tells the story it's actually one of the community managers? Her name's Rebbeca and they stream almost everyday in each platform (pc, console and Switch)
Did you know she initially started out as an intern? Then she was asked( or offered, can't remember) to voice space mom
@@Knae yep, i knew

Sorry bro, that's reserved for new players.
Btw, I know it's a bit late, but I'm curious on your reaction to League of Legends' Odyssey trailer.
I've been a long time player of Warframe and I'm glad that he appreciates the effort put into the effects and cinematic scenes in the game
The first mission literally begins right after this cinematic
I played Warframe for years and finally you have watched the trailer. I love it
I loved how you were trying to predict the next move or action of the Warframes and then you get blown away by something different haha.
2015 me: woah this game is great
2020 me: everytime logging in "now what?" but still playing and grinds
Weapon wise, I also have complaints, namely that Excalibur is using the Nikana, instead of the Skana, which is the actual starting sword, a new player gets to choose, the Braton (an assault rifle) and the Lato (a semi-auto pistol) are completely abscent, despite them being potentially very useful to Mag, and the Paris (the bow) should have been used by Volt, because his Passive is a very obvious one, which would have also made its ability to shoot down an entire enemy dropship with a single arrow much more plausible: As he moves on the ground, he steadily builds up an electrical charge, which is channeled into his next attack, something, that could have been easily shown off by doing the following scene:
The camera looks at his feet as he runs, showing sparks jumping between them and the ground with every step, he takes.
If you read all of this congrats
I love how the grenieer have Orokin color to represent when they were still there slaves
Noone else catch him saying : bankai?? I immediately thought bleach. Bleach fans, anyone??
yeah, it caught me off guard lol. so excited that its coming back for the tybw arc
They didn't show it in cinematic but actually in-game that characters(Excalibur) ultimate shots energy cuts like Getsuga Tenshou whenever you swing your sword. So well it really does feel like playing Ichigo in the game lol.

If only this is how warframe actually looked. “Proceeds to obliterate the map with saryn” too bad there’s never that many enemies as shown smh
@@natemcdevitt9384
I’m not telling you to never use the mods you’re given. If DE does anything more in like making enemies immune to CC or whatever similar effect to make the game challenging, it’ll literally take the fun and purpose of having such build.
tl;dr
Warframe is a power fantasy game. With what mods you have, you can decide what you want to do to an extent, whether you choose to play with nothing to having an insane room clear build.
@@NotHeitu Reading this after all the changes...hearing CC is meta almost sounds fake...rip CC
What i really appreciate if you Chris is that
you react through the whole video without pausing, then after you give your review and analysis on it.
I sometime dislike it when people react a video and pause talk about it and then resume.
Good stuff!
Finally! I waited for this reaction so long!
The best thing about this cinematic
is that i can say this isn't clickbait.
Its pretty close to in-game graphics
I have been asking for this for a long time lets gooo
It's always nice to see filmmaker who explains how something was done
I would love to see you reacting to the destiny "The taken king" cinematic!
Alll Destiny 1/2 cinematics would be much better

Was looking for this
My favorite part of the trailers is that the stuff the frames and characters do are the things they do in game, like its obviously a lot more fluid and realistically synergized and animated, but all the skills you see are things you can do in game, take down enemies with stealth while your kubro doggie helps, deflect bullets with your sword, form a sort of electro sword from thin air, collect and fire bullets back at the enemy , hell there's a frame that just straight takes enemy guns and fires them back at them.

Chris, do the reaction of the SWTOR trailers please, very interesting how you will disassemble them. Thanks for your videos by the way.

I've watched this cinematic countless times but this is the first time I've seen someone breaks it down in such a way as to understand the techniques used to make this cinematic epic...well done. 👏👍
In reality, its just Loki and Ivara zooming in and out of the map and enemies wont even know why their reactors is on meltdown.
I'm a Rhino guy but back when I played alot I had a Loki speed build for vaults. Like going from a semi to a crotch rocket 😂👌
The cool thing is that the director for this did some big stuff as well. That's one reason it's so amazing.
Gauss would like to have a word with you... lol
I only picked Excalibur because he looked like Genji and it feels similar to playing Genji
Mag, Magnetic, shes not summoning bullets, shes literally pulling the ones fired at her into her field, then using said magnetism to return them to sender, love that
The reason why they cut, that's the area you start in during the tutorial, that's the start of the game. The next part is what you play
On Volt's (the third guy) flashback, the transition technique is the same as the other two, but the anchor in the scene is the lotus flower instead of the character.
Him seeing the fight scenes looks like a kid watching a superhero movie, it's awesome.
To get the parts that come after the cinematic trailer you can play the new player experience that came with the Heart of Deimos update a day before this was posted
The cinematic was made as an intro for the new player opening quest.
