I remember in Elementary School not only realizing it was brail because it looked like the dots on our classroom / bathroom signs, but then having to bike all the way down to the local library so I could find a book on brail. Felt like such an achievement being the first kid in my grade to figure it out, so it's a bit of shame that now in the age of the internet kids can't really experience that same sense of cracking secrets in videogames.
Absolutely epic, I remember me and my grandma discovered this because she went to church and someone there just so happened to know braille and he gave us a sheet with the braille alphabet It was so epic and I don't think I've ever felt quite like that since
I will never forget my experience with Ruby and the Regi’s. I was around the same age as you, I found the sealed chamber by accident. Months passed and I assumed just like you it was just a cave. I mentioned this to two older kids in passing and they wanted to check it out. One of them kept their manual so he recognised the brail. Every day at school that kid translated everything for me and the other kid until we hit a road block with Relicanth the other two had no idea what it meant but I knew I had seen one in passing. The kid with the manual gave each of us his own handmade brail alphabet and that day I went full detective mode. The moment that screen shook was so exciting, I was full of Adrenalin. I wish new games were just like this, I honestly feel so sorry for children that won’t ever experience anything like that.
games still do this. it's just that youtube and online guides in general are so prevalent that no one really has the patience to figure it out by themselves. even if you searched for collaborative efforts like you did in your anecdote about going to school each day with new information, the other kids would just tell you to look it up...
And the way they handle mythicals too... I mean it’s not just the internet. Shiny locking legendaries in gen 6+, shiny locking starters in gen 8, just handing out the mythicals instead of giving you an item to find them, making the games so handhold-y... I honestly wish that they would make the games more difficult, or at least have a difficulty setting. Unfortunately, with data mining, and Internet forums, I don’t think there’s much that they can do about people learning so much about the games so soon, but I would love to see games more like gen 3
I remember playing Sapphire in a pizza joint with my grandpa and he looked at the screen and recognized braille. Eventually I asked a cousin if he knew what braille was and we ended up translating the whole puzzle. It was a cross generational encounter in real life too :]
I actually remember sitting down with my friend, copying all of the Braille letters onto a piece of paper, and grinding out the Regi trio for hours and hours. That was a pretty fun weekend. I’m glad that Game Freak kept the puzzles in ORAS although I wish the Sealed Chamber housed Regigigas instead of Regice’s cave
@@AbsolBlogsPokemon At least they thought to actually keep it rather than doing the (unfair and inaccurate) stereotypical "gamefreak" thing and just put the Regis in those locations but they're just standing there and there aren't any puzzles.
Famous playground rumor at my school: If you got to the 100th launch at the Mossdeep space center, then you could ride the spaceship up to the moon and catch jirachi
It's so difficult to keep secrets in the digital age, it makes me kind of sad. I'll never forget the feeling of wandering into the grass in Johto and encountering a Stantler for the first time and just being BLOWN AWAY because I had no idea what I was looking at. I really hope Game Freak comes back around to the idea of quirky mystery Pokemon again. They've kind of got it going on in Gen 8 with how weird some of the evolution methods are, so I'm hopeful it's a growing trend!
The ways to evolve Yamask and Farfetch'd were perfect!!! I hope they find ways to sneak more things in. The recent discovery that Pokemon that come to your camp can be shiny and sparkle in camp was a really awesome recent hidden discovery
3:27 this is so true, i remember when i found volcarona in the desert and all my friends and i thought that it was a legendary pokemon and we all used it because we thought it was so rare and op, what a good time
Thats why Rayquaza was and is my fav. I had encountered him first in Ruby, couldn't catch him because I wasn't prepared for a Legendary. So I told my friends during elementary school and they never believed me. Then Emerald got released. And I've had my Rayquaza from that game ever since, and im excited to have him in Gen 8 with the Crown Tundra
the little secrets and weird obscure stuff has always been my favorite part of pokemon games. the more ridiculous it is the better, i kinda just never want the search to end. fun video it cheered me up a bit today :)
@@dubiousweirdo3065 Registeel with the synthetizer or a mix table Regieleki with the electric guitar Regidrago with the bass Regirock with the drums Regigigas is the vocalist And honestly i don't know for regice
I'm sure you get this a lot matt, but you really do make some of, if not the best pokemon content on youtube. Even when I'm on a low for pokemon I will always take the time to watch your videos because they are so we'll put together. I bought a switch and pokemon sword after watching your movie of pokemon sword. I never knew this about the regis in gen 3, and hearing your story was both nostalgic and enjoyable. Never stop doing what you do matt, you are truly one of the greatest pokemon youtubers.
Couldn't agree more, dude. I'm not even big on watching shiny hunting reactions usually, but Matt's videos bring me a ton of joy no matter what the subject is. Definitely one of my favorite UA-camrs out there for having such a fun editing style, dry sense of humor, genuinely being very informative, and even those small vlog-like glimpses into his life during his level 100 gauntlets. Sorry if this all sounds corny, but new MattAbsol videos genuinely make my day and he needs to know how much he's appreciated!
I dont really like the regis but I loved the hunt for them. Having to decode the brail and search all around for the caves was a big achievement and something I feel is missing from new games. You were truly rewarded for your curiosity and exploration in these older games. I miss that alot. Hidden paths, caves, boulder puzzles, sevi islands, etc. Even running into roamers for the first time was a unique experience that would reignite my will to play when I was young. Maybe it's part nostalgia but anything past gen 5 has not interested me in nearly the same way. Emerald is all time.
Jesus i need to learn to wait til the end to comment. Good to see im not the only person who wore the guidebook out and had all the pages start falling out
Love the long intros keep em comin! I dont know if everyone has a "discovering the regis" story but I do too and it's one of my fondest memories with pokemon. Had to have my aunt translate braille over the phone and it was just as difficult as it sounds 🤣
I grew up on 4th gen, our ‘regi trio’ was the Darkrai/Cresselia event, with honorable mentions being the old chateau and Arceus at the top of Mt. Coronet. The mystery and hype only grew stronger in Black2/White2 with the inclusion of the haunted house in that desert area, and the seemingly useless underwater ruins. Man, I miss those days.
I love these types of videoes, man! They're so filled with absolute awe and love. I could feel myself being brought back in time to pre-internet Pokémon gaming.
It was a magical feeling that truly can never be recaptured again. The perfect confluence of time period, mystery, and game devs who wanted to add that extra adventure to their game through details. One of the most beautiful works of art in that it could only be experienced at that time, especially heightened by childhood wonder.
I remember getting regi's as a kid. I only found out about them since the credits creditted someone for braille. My brother saw that over my shoulder and said "There's braille in this game?" After googling what braille was I remembered seeing it in the game. My favourite one was regice :)
Remember I was in Turkey. Laying on the side of the pool. And discovering the little dive spot. Some dutchman came and said: you need relicanth and wailmer. Thats the only thing. I did it and the only thing I caught that holiday was registeel. He didn't know how to catch the other 2.
This was how I felt playing through my copy of Diamond when I was 7 or 8. I remember being completely floored by all the secret events and legendaries available in the game. One of my best memories playing Pokemon was after I had beaten the elite four in diamond, and just happened to be running down route 214. I saw a completely new path towards the eastern side of the route that I had never noticed before. Following it, I got to sendoff spring and eventually turnback cave. Running aimlessly through those cryptic rooms and eventually stumbling upon Giratina sitting there motionless, calmly observing you as if it was expecting you to come still gives me chills. I love how nobody in the region mentioned it; there was no "hey you should go check out route 214" dialogue as far as I can remember. It was just this new thing that suddenly opened up to you, and they left it completely up to you to find. THAT is what newer games are missing. In order to get that feeling once again, they will have to hide their secrets MUCH better. Make them more obscure, harder to find, more intricate and more difficult to accomplish. Don't include any NPC's pushing you in the right direction. Let it be something that someone stumbles upon totally by chance. That's the type of thing that makes your world feel so much more vibrant and detailed.
same, that and the regi puzzle are two of the best legendary encounters purely because it feels so satisfying to explore the world and uncover awesome secrets by that, or even stumble into them by accident :,) i had a similar experience to you when it comes to giratina, i randomly found the path after beating the league and was sure i hadn't seen it before. the only difference is that, when i first saw giratina, it startled me because the sprite was so big and came out of nowhere, so i left the cave to kinda "gather myself" and prepare to battle, and then i re-entered the cave and poof, it wasn't there anymore. it took me another few minutes to find it again, but this time i actually battled and caught it. it's memories like these that stick with you, and it's a shame indeed that newer games don't allow you to run into things organically, but rather all but spell it out for you with big icons and npc infodumps
My god, the intro filled me with all of my childhood nostalgia from discovering the Sealed Chamber, to deciphering the braille, to finally learning what was hidden from us and capturing what are easily my favorite set of non-cover legendaries of all time. I, too, had a "Kyle" who spread rumors at my school and he and I worked together to solve the mystery together. It was an absolute blast and a thing I look back fondly upon. In fact, I still have my phone's ringtone/alarm as this battle track, it means that much to me. I'm so glad I finally took the time this spring to hunt all three and can't wait to hunt them all again in Platinum down the road. Congrats on your Registeel, Matt! Easily one of my favorite videos you've ever created and I can't wait for the next one!
Regigigas is like one of my favorite pokemon! I have a little figurine of him that I painted sitting on my desk, so seeing this video pop up in my feed seemed very appropriate. I wish the Regis got more love! I guess they aren't that good competitively so they often get overlooked but my boy Regigigas deserves some love!!! This whole video was a treat. I love your videos because they seem so personal, like you could have lived across the street from me as a kid or something lol. Keep it up!
This is one of my favorite videos of yours Matt, and that’s saying a lot! The mystery of Pokémon I experienced as a kid is one of the biggest reasons why I love the series so much to this day! Here’s to hoping there will be some exciting secrets to discover in the Crown Tundra!
In middle school, before my family got the Internet, I translated the braille and caught the Regis. I told my friend about it and gave him the translation before our first period class. So class goes on as normal and we change rooms for second period. Out of nowhere, the room we had first period in erupted in laughter which is weird because that teacher couldn't tell a joke to save her life. It turns out my buddy accidentally left the translations in the room and that teacher read it out loud thinking someone was passing notes in class. So when she said "we feared the Pokemon" everyone realized that note was from me
this video truly gave me goosebumbs. you brought me back to when these 3rd gen games were so freaking mysterious. thank you man. also holy crap man. can't believe you're almost at 100k subs :o. happy to say i followed you from the start and you realy deserve it man! one of the best pokemon content creators out there!
This video reminded me of the joy many of us got from, not only pokemon but, so many games all those years ago. I've never had someone describe and showcase it so well that it brought me back. Ruby and Sapphire have always been my favorites btw, particularly because of the mystery behind the Reggies.
this reminds me of when I was getting into world of warcraft for the first time. I was 10 and really unfamiliar with the internet as a whole but I always wanted to experiment to see if I could be the first to find something hidden. I would swim off the island until my character died of fatigue half-expecting some raid-boss-esque shark to attack me at any second. it would really put me on edge. I loved exploring the massive continents to try and traverse undiscovered areas and it was an amazing feeling to find the occasional hidden cave. Nostalgic video for the wrong reason but loved the trip! thank you
In lost my pokemon black 2 years back that had all my childhood pokes on it, and Registeel was the only full odds shiny I had on that cart that i actively hunted. I named him Bebob. I audibly gasped when i saw you got a Bebob of your own. Im so happy for you man, congrats!
And now I've watched the video in full: I love this sort of content, filled with nostalgia and a true love for the times many of us Pokemon lovers shared. Great points made and great catch at the end! Congrats!
this is one of the reasons i try to play all the new pokemon games without looking things up or even really going on the internet around launch, it keeps some of the mystery around. Great video matt!
I like that this indirectly taught you how to learn braille for the blind in real life. It was an incentive for you to learn a language that people with disabilities have to use. It would be even cooler if we get to see something with sign language in the future.
Matt this is such an awesome video. And I totally, 100% agree. I remember learning about the Regi’s in the lunch room and being like “umm you need a relicanth and a wailord to do what??”. Really enjoyed this one pal, good stuff!
I was briefly in Girl Scouts and our scout book had braille written in it. When playing Sapphire and searching for the Regis, I felt so accomplished knowing I had easy access to figuring out the answers.
This is literally why Regirock is my favourite legendary pokemon. I remember using a nintendo magazine to decode the braille. Awesome video as always Matt
Man, what a joy to relieve these nostalgic memories with you, Absol :] On top of the quest being very well put-together and mysterious, I actually like the Regi-Soundtrack best out of all legendary encounters! Especially the first few seconds. It's just so different and I remember soft-resetting the encounter just to get to listen to the beginning of the song again. Good times.
Ruby and emerald have always been my favorite games, and I did the same thing as a kid and I had to use the Braille at the back of my hand held dictionary I had. Truly remarkable
The way you described your experience completely mirrors mine with my brother when we discovered the regi's all those years ago, sadly with the levels of data mining and racing as you describe with current pokemon games to expose every fact and secret I really doubt we'll experience something like finding the Regi's again.
I think the last time I remember seeing you in a video was when you did that BW film with you battling 10 people online. You lost weight and look good man, glad to see you’re nearly at 100K. Congratulations on the whole journey!
The Regis are my favorite legendaries as well. I remember printing out a braille cipher on one of the computers at my elementary school and translating over several car rides with my family, and having no idea how to do the Relicanth/Wailord thing at first. The Latis were another legendary group that required so much effort and preparation on the player's part back in gen 3, and I think that's a part of why I love gen 3's legends the most, because they felt so elusive and mysterious. The games are a bit too much about instant gratification now, but those of us who grew up without every answer immediately at our fingertips will always appreciate the payoff for diving deep (no pun intended) into the mystery of the Regis.
Goddamn what an adventure it was deciphering the braille with my pals in the elementary school chess club. First from braille into English and then from English to Finnish with a dictionary. I remember we were confused with Registeel for a good minute when the Eng-Fin dictionary lead us to believe we needed some kind of a frying pan key item or some overworld usable fire attack since it told *to shine* to mean *paistaa* which means both to shine (for sun) and to fry. Took us a while to even think of flash since we were all the type to grow up on Gen 1 and had got used to ignore flash from the beginning.
I was about 9 years old when I first stumbled upon that strange diving patch. I was just looking for items I missed and wound up on an entire adventure. Having no internet made it difficult, but my school had a book on Braile and I took to reading and exploring. This is what I miss. The thrill of adventure and the suspense of what comes next. The puzzles that truly made you think or learn something new. The legendary encounters these days just don't feel legendary anymore and even the stories themselves have grown stale in my opinion. Hopefully that changes in the future, but who knows? Side note: I love the first background music you used. Definitely brought me back to those good ole Megaman Battle Network days. Cheers mate!
Ah yes, the old dial-up days. I remember beating Metroid Prime without the internet when it came out on the GC as a 12 yr old kid, and I'm still convinced puzzle games like this have never been the same. Ironically so many people don't have the patience because of 'backtracking', when to me it was just exploring the game after school. Easy access guides now let you beat a game in less than 15 hours now. You used to have to play endlessly and explore just the same way to figure out how to complete games. Now, I think it's all about that DLC, and mass completion goals that allow games to live so long. Anyway, I appreciate this video. Thanks
Pro tip. If you want any sense of that feeling ever again, go into the next major pokemon game blind. Totally blind from any leaks, trailers, anything. I did this with x and y and sun and moon and both ended up much more fun. Finding the legendary bird in x was super cool but finding guzlord in moon made me feel like a king
I try as hard as I can to do that every time, but it's so tough being so connected with people on the internet! I have to mute so many twitter accounts ahead of the games' releases
Okay this is less relevant, but you have lost so much weight and you look amazing, it’s awesome being someone who was an early fan and has seen your progress since the beginning, good for you man!
Mysteries ruins in gold silver, the moth in black and white, arceus in platinum. But yeah it makes a difference if you are a child and have internet and all. Also those timed events can be nice (sure they suck if you can’t attend them), my fav. was the victiny one
I'm almost 10 years older than you, but I get exactly what you mean. Even being already in high school back then, it wasn't any easier to decipher the Regi puzzles. But it had such a unique taste of discovery, that you can't find in modern games anymore.
This almost made me tear up I remember going over my friends house spending days trying to figure out what to do I wish they made games as difficult and crypt as they used to. Thanks for the video it means a lot!
I'm thankful to have enjoyed such an experience as this with my copy of Sapphire when I was 9/10. I had obtained the guide after beating the game and used it for the entirety of the search for the Regis, but it was as fulfilling of an experience for me as you had described. I even went through the entire experience after finishing Diamond of migrating my Regis and discovering Regigigas. The combination of the internet and Game Freak's inability to make the 3D titles remotely as immersive as the 2D titles eventually led to Alpha Sapphire being my final entry in the series, and seeing how Sun/Moon/LetsGo/Sword/Shield turned out only made me more content with Alpha Sapphire remaining my final outing in the series.
I still remember a friend telling me that if you push Rui in Colosseum away, a hidden textbox pops up at some point. I tried that out for hours lol. Great video! Looking forward to see you hitting the big 100k sub milestone!!
I remember we just so happened to have been learning about Braille in my elementary school class when I was playing the game and stumbled across the cave and remembered seeing braille Institute listed in the credits so I used my reading class book and translated it myself. It was great
I feel like there are some honourable mentions which aren't as well hidden as the Regis, but are still very well worth mentioning. Kyogre, Groudon, and Rayquaza (HG/SS): Out of all the honourable mentions, these are by far the most noteworthy. The Weather Trio in the Johto remakes are found in a remote location, the Embedded Tower, west of Cianwood City. You cannot reach the Tower without Rock Climb, meaning you have to beat all 16 gym leaders to enter the tower. But it doesn't end there, as nothing will happen once you enter the tower. You have to beat _RED_ in order for the Weather Trio to be available in the Embedded Tower, and that's only after you obtain a Kanto Starter from Professor Oak and then talk to Mr. Pokemon. In Soul Silver, Groudon will be in the tower, while Kyogre will be in there in Heart Gold. In order to get Rayquaza, your copy of the game must have both Kyogre and Groudon on the save file, afterwards you must talk to Professor Oak with both in your party, allowing you to receive the Jade Orb and catch Rayquaza. To push it even further, you can't transfer a Groudon and Kyogre from the Gen 3 games, they MUST be caught in the Embedded Tower. These legendaries definitely encourage exploration and completion of the game, and are thus very noteworthy. Giratina (Diamond and Pearl): Before Platinum came out and Giratina was made the box art legendary, it was only found in a winding, puzzling cave which could only be accessed in the post-game. You wouldn't know where this cave was unless you were walking down Route 214 and noticed a path which never existed before, and which leads you to a new location, the Sendoff Spring. Once you enter Turnback Cave, which is found in the Sendoff Spring, you would have to complete a puzzle which would reset entirety if you failed to complete it. At the end, a large, ghastly dragon, which has never been mentioned once before by any NPC. Kyurem (Black and White 1): After beating the game, you might be wanting to explore the new areas a bit. During your adventures, you come across Lacunosa Town, and not too far away, the Giant Chasm. You decide to eventually explore the area and realize that it has one large, winding path leading towards a small crater in the center. Suddenly, the area fills to the brim with snow and you begin walking around aimlessly, eventually finding a cave which couldn't be accessed before. At the deepest depths of this cave, is Kyurem, a freezing dragon which would be revealed to be part of both Zekrom and Reshiram, and is technically, the true dragon of the three. And because the games like to be a real pain sometimes, here are some non-legendary mentions. Spiritomb (D/P/Pt): You know the drill. You found an Odd Keystone, place it into the broken tower, and now you don't know what to do. You eventually give up on the tower and move on. At the end of your journey, you fight Cynthia, and her leading pokemon is one no other trainer has, a Spiritomb. After your battle, you're desperate to find this bizarre, yet fascinating pokemon, which leads you back to the broken tower on Route 209. As it turns out, this is where Spiritomb is caught, and it's spawn method? The Underground. You must talk to 32 people in the Underground before Spiritomb will show up, making it an absolute pain which will fill you with a massive sense of accomplishment after catching it. Feebas (Gen 3 and 4): Found in only 1 location in the games it appears in, this fish is certainly interesting, as it evolves into the beautiful Milotic. You begin to surf in the waters, only to find it won't show up, so you try fishing. You try for a short while, but after no luck finding it, you give up and begin thinking about new things. That's where the game gets you, as Feebas is only ever found on 4 random tiles determined at the start of the game (or at the beginning of each day in Gen 4), and there is no indication on which tiles they are. You will need to fish on each individual tile if you wish to find this elusive fish. Rotom (Gen 4): I like to consider this a legendary, but since it's not officially classified as one, it's place is here. But regardless, in it's debut generation, this ghost pokemon was one-of-a-kind, being found in the Old Chateau at night after thumping the TV and only once in the whole game. This was definitely a long comment but I hope you enjoy reading it!
Loved the video! Hoenn is peak nostalgia for me for pokemon hands down. And this was the same experience for me. Every year I had a summer camp and everyone would pullout Pokemon, link cables, tcg cards, ARs, Pokemon guidebooks, along with all the rumors of hidden Pokémon. And finding this as a kid with buddies was simply the most important/fascinating thing ever. Loved the video, really threw me back! PS- Loved the Mega Man BN music early in the vid! Another peak nostalgia game for me👍🏻
Man, I think these are my favorite legendary quests too. I did use an internet guide for the braille but I have fond memories of staying up late, playing under the covers, and slowly following the steps of the quest. Finding the plethora of legendaries in Gen 5 isn't quite the same feeling, but I didn't use a guide for those so it still felt like a quest just to locate them all.
I’m the same age as you so it was crazy to hear this story was happening to someone at around the same time I accidentally discovered the regis cave for the first time hahaha. I remember I finally figured it out what to do some months later after my cousin’s friend helped me out. I’d love to have that feeling of excitement for Pokemon all over again as when I did during that time
When I was a kid, I starred in Diamond version and arrived at the Soloceaon Ruins, near to where you can breed. For some reason I started making a map of the caves and started making notes of which chamber each Unown letter had. I explored the region and found a cave, near the entrance of Giratina, and there was a dude who said a few words (at the time I couldn't read English) and for some other reason I noticed that each letter of Unown you get, the cave gets bigger until it passes on the other side and gets the exclamation and interrogation Unown forms. This is the most pleasant thing I did in a Pokémon game without internet or guide, I was really amazed
I remember hearing a rumor in 4th grade charizard could evolve into charcoal, raichu had a fire evolution, the mew under the truck trick.lmao i tried all of them and failed but i do remember a kid saying the red gyarados was a shining pokemon and that he had other shining pokemon just to find out years later shinies are a thing haha i love pokemon man
This video is so true man. Pokemon games as an experience really thrive on that sense of mystery and exploration; something can't feel rare or incredible if it's handed directly to you. I remember having to read about the Regi puzzles in Nintendo Power. I probably didn't even know they existed before that, they were so well hidden lol It's unfortunate how difficult it is to recapture that nowadays. It doesn't help that most people seem to think that anytime you're excited about a new game coming out, that should mean you want as much information about it as possible before the release date, even though for me I prefer knowing as little as possible.
After 6225 soft resets... Idk what I'm more impressed with... The dedication to do that many resets or the ability to play multiple game boys at the same time
Omg. This video deserves a million billion views! 😔 gone are the glory days of Pokémon mystery and hard work. Something tells me those days are gone forever because of how technology is today. I still have hope tho. That one day, I Pokémon game might drop that brings back all the joys of the glory days. There was NOTHING like playing through gen one and gen 2 with little to no internet access ☺️..... the glory days.
The Crown Tundra _tried_ to replicate that feeling of adventure and research, with mediocre success, and I feel like in order to fully enjoy something like that again, you'd need minimal guides, and a library
Damn, I remember back then, when I was the whole summer in France with my cousin playing Ruby. We found out about the Regis through some of his friends while playing soccer on a field. In the evening we started to translate those hieroglyphs in german and french and got the Regis the next day. I miss those days playing games in the same room because of the lack of Internet. Thanks for the video letting me reminisce my childhood!
I absolutely love your videos, I feel very identified with the passion you have, keep creating Pokémon content as good as ever. greetings from Mexico your friend Edgar 😄
This feeling actually kinda held true for me back in pokemon Y, I was invested in watching the pokemon anime and the only thing I could think off at that time was ash-greninja, and so I begun training it whilst holding a mystic water since I heard a rumor that "level 100 greninja raised from a level 1 froakie with a mystic water" were the prerequisites to get it. I was only able to replicate this feeling because I was very dumb as a kid and didn't bother looking it up but it was still a feeling that I will never forget
I remember first playing Sapphire during 4th grade, and I remember being mesmerized by the braile cave. At the time, we were actually going over braile in English class, so I was able to translate the text, and eventually find the regis. I told some people around about it, and they didn't believe me at all, like they didn't believe that missingno was real initially either. So I showed them on a copy of one of my friend's game, and everyone's minds were blown. Crazy times, man. In comparison, the regi puzzles now were way easier lol.
Biking out to the library for that sounds like such a Pokemon adventure, too! It was a very cool era to play games for sure
Absolutely epic, I remember me and my grandma discovered this because she went to church and someone there just so happened to know braille and he gave us a sheet with the braille alphabet
It was so epic and I don't think I've ever felt quite like that since
@@brunospira exactly, when the game intersects with real life, thats when it becomes REALLY immersive and an unforgettable experience

I will never forget my experience with Ruby and the Regi’s.

even if you searched for collaborative efforts like you did in your anecdote about going to school each day with new information, the other kids would just tell you to look it up...
This is just so true. I feel like Pokèmon has struggled to find it's footing with the widespread adoption if the internet.
I I remember you said I

I remember playing Sapphire in a pizza joint with my grandpa and he looked at the screen and recognized braille. Eventually I asked a cousin if he knew what braille was and we ended up translating the whole puzzle. It was a cross generational encounter in real life too :]
I actually remember sitting down with my friend, copying all of the Braille letters onto a piece of paper, and grinding out the Regi trio for hours and hours. That was a pretty fun weekend. I’m glad that Game Freak kept the puzzles in ORAS although I wish the Sealed Chamber housed Regigigas instead of Regice’s cave
yeah, I always thought the way ORAS handled Regigigas was SO BIZARRE
@@AbsolBlogsPokemon At least they thought to actually keep it rather than doing the (unfair and inaccurate) stereotypical "gamefreak" thing and just put the Regis in those locations but they're just standing there and there aren't any puzzles.
Famous playground rumor at my school: If you got to the 100th launch at the Mossdeep space center, then you could ride the spaceship up to the moon and catch jirachi
Wait are you telling me this wasn’t real
@@gabethyrubenstein7984 yes and no. i think there was an real life event at Gamestop or Toys R Us where they gave you a "launch ticket" or something
Gen 9 has some odd evolution methods too
3:27 this is so true, i remember when i found volcarona in the desert and all my friends and i thought that it was a legendary pokemon and we all used it because we thought it was so rare and op, what a good time
It is pretty OP. I remember playing through Black on my DS as a kid, thinking you could catch Mewtwo in that cave by chargestone cave.
It IS pretty powerful.
Just gotta love their anime cry.

Should've shown them your Pokédex entry for Rayquaza
the little secrets and weird obscure stuff has always been my favorite part of pokemon games. the more ridiculous it is the better, i kinda just never want the search to end.
fun video it cheered me up a bit today :)

Sorry if this all sounds corny, but new MattAbsol videos genuinely make my day and he needs to know how much he's appreciated!
totally agree
That's the type of thing that makes your world feel so much more vibrant and detailed.
same, that and the regi puzzle are two of the best legendary encounters purely because it feels so satisfying to explore the world and uncover awesome secrets by that, or even stumble into them by accident :,)
i had a similar experience to you when it comes to giratina, i randomly found the path after beating the league and was sure i hadn't seen it before. the only difference is that, when i first saw giratina, it startled me because the sprite was so big and came out of nowhere, so i left the cave to kinda "gather myself" and prepare to battle, and then i re-entered the cave and poof, it wasn't there anymore. it took me another few minutes to find it again, but this time i actually battled and caught it. it's memories like these that stick with you, and it's a shame indeed that newer games don't allow you to run into things organically, but rather all but spell it out for you with big icons and npc infodumps

Thanks so much!!!!!!! Was cool to randomly see you in thr chat on Gunner's stream yesterday haha

This video reminded me of the joy many of us got from, not only pokemon but, so many games all those years ago. I've never had someone describe and showcase it so well that it brought me back. Ruby and Sapphire have always been my favorites btw, particularly because of the mystery behind the Reggies.
Truck: *exists*
Kids: something will be under there today, I just know it
Great video! Hoenn in general felt like the most adventurous region to me and the regis are a prime example of that.
this reminds me of when I was getting into world of warcraft for the first time.
Congrats!

oldie but a goodie. just cheking in on this vid for my yearly nostalgia hit. how incredibly relatable & polished video 10/10
Weird flex with those cute baby pics Absol. Lol Great video as always! I’ve been enjoying these long form video essays. Feeling inspired
This dude is on the verge of 100k hope he reaches it
this is one of the reasons i try to play all the new pokemon games without looking things up or even really going on the internet around launch, it keeps some of the mystery around. Great video matt!
I like that this indirectly taught you how to learn braille for the blind in real life. It was an incentive for you to learn a language that people with disabilities have to use. It would be even cooler if we get to see something with sign language in the future.
Couldn't agree more. I absolutely love everything about the Regis. And I'm so attracted to spritework- their overworld sprites look SO GOOD!
Matt this is such an awesome video. And I totally, 100% agree. I remember learning about the Regi’s in the lunch room and being like “umm you need a relicanth and a wailord to do what??”. Really enjoyed this one pal, good stuff!
Videos like this and your movies are why your favorite pokemon creator. Looking forward to seeing you hit the 100k sub milestone soon!
I was briefly in Girl Scouts and our scout book had braille written in it. When playing Sapphire and searching for the Regis, I felt so accomplished knowing I had easy access to figuring out the answers.
Holt shit man havent checked out your channel in about a year youve lost so much weight well done my guy. Respect
Bro, I can relate. The Regis are absolutely the best legendaries
This is literally why Regirock is my favourite legendary pokemon. I remember using a nintendo magazine to decode the braille. Awesome video as always Matt
Man, what a joy to relieve these nostalgic memories with you, Absol :]
On top of the quest being very well put-together and mysterious, I actually like the Regi-Soundtrack best out of all legendary encounters!
Now THAT video is a deep cut hahaha. I haven't thought about that one in years! Thanks so much!
The introduction to this WAS INCREDIBLE .
Your Commentary and POVs are so intriguing to watch not to mention your shiny Reactions are Insane, keep up the amazingly awesome work my guy 💖
I gotta say, this is an ABSOLutely great video
This was just in my recommended and made me all nostalgic for no reason, i love it
Had no idea they went this deep with the regis. Genuinely one of the coolest things I've seen in pokemon in a while.
as someone who just last year started playing Pokemon, getting the regis in Emerald was still an experience
Crown Tundra hype! It’s always great to see when you post a new video - they’re always entertaining! Thanks for keeping me sane during all of this!
This is my favourite video of yours! I can only hope they can create mystery like this again
3:51 - gotta love that Action Replay art 😂
The era of this type of discovery is pretty much over. I can't trust myself to not look at the internet if a puzzle takes more than 15 minutes.
I’m with you all the way!! It’s been forever since they’ve had any sort of secretive feeling attached to a legendary
Man I love your videos best poketuber everyone else just clickbaits and talks about sinnoh remakes every video, keep up the great content my man
I kind of agree with you on this the fact that there’s more exploration to them makes me like them more.
It was great
For some reason, seeing you actually play the games on your Gameboys and DS's makes me happy
There's something nice about playing it on that hardware. Playing on PC just doesn't feel the same to me
I feel like there are some honourable mentions which aren't as well hidden as the Regis, but are still very well worth mentioning.
I agree that Rotom definitely feels legendary, feels more legendary than many other Pokemon in future gens!! Same goes for Spiritomb
Nice green boi Absol! Registeel is definitely my favorite shiny of the three. Grats!
Another peak nostalgia game for me👍🏻
The videos you make always intrigue me! So much depth, passion, and energy in them! Almost at 100k! Praying for your success!! And lots of shinies!
So happy to finish my own registeel hunt while watching this amazing video. With it, my shiny regi trio set is complete :)
I explored the region and found a cave, near the entrance of Giratina, and there was a dude who said a few words (at the time I couldn't read English) and for some other reason I noticed that each letter of Unown you get, the cave gets bigger until it passes on the other side and gets the exclamation and interrogation
Unown forms.
I probably didn't even know they existed before that, they were so well hidden lol
It's unfortunate how difficult it is to recapture that nowadays. It doesn't help that most people seem to think that anytime you're excited about a new game coming out, that should mean you want as much information about it as possible before the release date, even though for me I prefer knowing as little as possible.
I love how you put so much effort even into the little shiny vids. Keep up the great work absol!
This intro rocked! Fantastic shiny aswell my dude.
Man I'm really happy that you made a video about the Regis. I went to my library to get a braille book to translate. Keep the videos coming 👌
Without a doubt these are my faves too. Regirock in particular... I just love them so much.
