  • The Shimanami Kaido is arguably Japan's most famous cycling path that goes all the way from Onomichi, Hiroshima in Honshu island (Japan's main island) all the way down to Imabari, Ehime in Shikoku island. The route is 76 km long and passes through 6 islands and 6 bridges.
Come join us as we venture on not only the longest bike ride in our life, but come see if we're able to complete this journey in 1 exhausting day.

Hi! it was a nice ride! amazing and great video as well :) I am planning to do the Shimanami Kaido on the 1st week of April, I have a question, is there a transportation going back to Onimichi after finishing the 70km?

    • @didibryan

There is a bus that you can take back and I believe if you want to go back to Onomichi you may need to transfer to another bus. I don't know the times, but you can try looking online for the latest timetable.

Yes there is public transportation but I believe you may need to transfer once in the middle

@@didibryan So my plan is to cycle as far as i can. Return the bike in one of the islands and take a boat ride back. You think its possible?

@@sbrforest9112 Are you just planning a day trip? It's definitely possible, but just a couple things to keep in mind:
      * there are multiple cycle shops you can return the bikes at, but they may not all be near one of the ferry ports
      * depending on how far you go, there may also not be a direct ferry back
      * the boat times are also not that frequent
There's a map on this site for some more information: www.japan-guide.com/e/e3478.html
      Some other options to consider:
      * Take the ferry back with your bike and return the bike back at the start.
      * Stay overnight in one of the islands in the middle of the ride

    Are the E-bikes any good?

We didn't rent e bikes, but if they're like the standard e bikes in Japan, they're solid. We just had a concern since the route was so long that if the battery ran out, the e bikes would become really heavy.
