I was drawn to your cover video and loved every step you showed in making this sewing mat. I couldn't find the pattern you mentioned in the video but I can follow your instructions. I LOVE this mat because of the bag, pin cushion, and scissor holder. I never thought to use that snap tool and you just opened my eyes to so many ideas. What a great idea! Thank you so much!
Thank you for a lovely tutorial! I really loved that you didnt cut out the "errors" from when you put your pieces together. So importent to know that we all do them and that is how we learn even more. We dont need to do everything perfect!
I'm making my sewing mat right now. took me almost all night to cut it out... I got my jam snaps off of etsy. I got the starter kit. these snaps are great. my son is autistic so I have so many uses for these. I can make a mask now for him using these snaps. I'm so glad you showed us those. thank you so much.
I love when there are PDFs available for patterns! I downloaded the pattern so I had it while watching your video. I also subscribed to your channel. Looking forward to more good ideas.
Excellent video I luv the fact that you shared those errors with us so we wouldn’t make the same ones. One thing I would do different is instead of attaching the scissors to the bag I would make it long enough to go around your neck. I attach my scissors to a lanyard and it is always around my neck, I was forever leaving it at my ironing board or sewing machine when I needed it somewhere else. Now when I don’t have it around my neck I am always grabbing for it. Luv this video thanks for sharing.
My first thought about this video was that it was way to long - 40 mins. But after watching it, I absolutely loved this project! I can’t wait to start mine❤❤❤❤
Done it phew ! Loved the video kept stopping it then starting it again when I caught up. Cut the pdf pattern out of wallpaper so I knew exactly what I was doing. Thank you
Another great video, Vickie! I love that the mat allows you to slide your machine around. I went to a class recently and my work space was very small. I had to push my machine away from me to have enough room to cut, place my pieces and pin. Without a mat, I had to keep picking up my machine to move it. It's really heavy. I am thinking of making one of these mats and I'll make it a little wider. I'll put some of that ironing board cover fabric (with a little extra cotton batting) on one end. That way I can have my mini iron close by, so I don't have to get up and go to the ironing board each time I need to press a seam open.
Love your cam collection and tutorial on application of these. I gotta have some now! Lol omg you gals are killing me... I'm purchasing things I didn't even know was out there, but needed!
You are too sweet! Your voice and knowledge are perfect. I also like how you explained your mistakes, it’s very humble and informative for us newbies. Great video and information. Be Blessed!
Thank you so much Vickie for taking my call. I ordered the Kam Snaps on Amazon. I may purchase more, they have so many to choose from! Have a great weekend! 😊
Vickie, I totally enjoyed this video, Thank you for sharing this great idea. I really needed something like that to put my sewing trash it’s a fast way to keep all that thread off the floor, and the scissor holder is amazing, now I won’t have to run everywhere looking for them. I will be working on mine this week Thanks again. Look forward to more great ideas.
Vickie , can I come to your house and work in your shop and learn to sew and quilt from you? Please? From your tutorials it seems you have all these little tips and tricks that you do and not even think of it as you work! It would be so much fun to work with you and learn as you go. I love your mat and will be making it this week if af all possible. I couldn't download the pattern either. I have tons of Kam snaps from makings bibs and other things for grandkids. ♡♡♡ They are my heart! Thank you so very much for everything you do for us!
I can’t find the free pattern for the sewing machine mat thread bag and notions basket. I searched what you suggested on your site and nothing came up. Lots of items to buy. This was posted 2019 so maybe it’s all old stuff and your no longer posting? I haven’t watched the whole video yet since I wanted to see measurements and what’s required to complete the items on your video. Thank you for the idea, I’ll search for other videos that include more basic information to make the items.
I had one of these for years that I made, but couldn't figure out why my machine wasn't operating properly, i.e. missed stitches, uneven stitching etc., (it was new), then I took the pad for washing and when the machine was on a solid surface, it worked perfectly.
Hi, Vickie. I went to the website but can’t download this pattern. Please let me know when it’s available. This is really pretty and I want to make my sister one for Christmas. Thanks.
I put a link in the description. Search under sewing machine mat on the website both worked for me and if that doesn't work email me and I'll send it to you.
What kind of marker do you use on your lines that are drawn for quilting the fabric. Thanks. I love this video. Easy to understand because you explain everything well!!! Pat B
Unfortunately it isn`t possible to download the pattern at the moment. Some friends of mine wanted to sew the mat as well and they aren`t able to download. What´s the problem? Could you help us? I`´ve just finished the mat and the boxes. It was much fun and I like the result! You are a great of teacher!
New subscriber here. I absolutely love your very informative tutorial on this sewing pad with pockets and accessories. Thank you so much. I have a lame question, but what is the dowel for? My first guess is to keep the machine from sliding back, but I’m not sure and wanted to ask. Linda Hardesty
I love this! Only question I have is when you are sewing the box together why not do the lining while doing the box at the same time instead of doing it separate? I'm not criticizing I'm honestly just wondering why I'm a beginner so please don't take offense of me asking that. I have no clue what I'm doing so that's why I'm asking.
GkarrEQ That’s a great observation especially for a beginner. The only reason why I did the lining separately was to hide the inside seams. I could have quilted the back, foam and lining all together then cut out the box. Then after sewing the side seams it would need to have some binding placed on the inside side seams to cover them and also the top of the box. It is your preference and I think you should give it a try and show us what you did. Please join our facebook group and share your great ideas with us. It’s called Creative Notions group. We love to share ideas and ask about how to do things etc. Thanks for the question!

Hi Maria, you can buy them at Kamsnaps.com. I think you can get them at hobby stores too but I got mine at Kamsnaps and am very happy with them. They have tutorials to watch too so you can learn before you buy.
Did you search for sewing machine mat in the search bar. I also added it to the description on youtube. If that doesn't work email me and I'll send it to you.

You are very welcome. I.love those snaps too, there are so.many uses for them and they're easy to put on.
Thank you, going to try that nice easy box, I like that it's shallow so I can throw all the bits and pieces into that I'm always losing as well!

Liked your tutorial and the way you showed that not all plans come out right the first time. Thank you very much😊
You gave me an idea, the silicone baking mat might be a good mat to keep the machine from sliding around during sewing. I'll try it.
Love your cam collection and tutorial on application of these. I gotta have some now! Lol omg you gals are killing me... I'm purchasing things I didn't even know was out there, but needed!

So cute, Thanks for sharing. What size sewing machine needle did you use. Also that little pouch can hold you phone at retreats
Hi Trudy I used a size 14 because I had been binding a flannel quilt so I just left it in.
Where does the dowel go? Thanks for the video I enjoyed it
It goes behind the sewing machine in the casing
Muchas gracias desde Guayaquil, Ecuador

I absolutely love the floral fabric you used for the thread catcher! That is really beautiful! Do you still carry that fabric in your on line store?
Yes I have lots of it. Its call Rapsody by Sedif Imer
Great idea thank you
Is the pattern available to purchase, I’m willing to pay for it. Or can someone tell me the dimensions for the pincushion, box and thread catcher.

It’s to keep the mat from sliding forward. :)
Thank you, I hadn’t thought of that, but makes absolute sense. I’m excited to make one for my sewing room.
Awesome 👏
I haven't really understood the reason for the dowel in the casing, can you explain please?
It holds the mat back so it doesnt get pulled off by the weight of the pockets when you fill them
@@CreativeNotions Thank you, That's a neat idea!

I tried to edit my comment but it wouldn’t let me. My apologies for being negative you do mention sizes to cut items in your video. So thank you!
This was awesome, thank you!
Thanks Lin, necessity is the mother of invention
i love it and thanks
Vickie is there an error in the interfacing Cut for the large pocket? Paper says 71/2 inches x 21 inches. Half of my fabric is 6 1/2 inches.
That was real good
Nice. I cannot find the free pdf on your website , so sad
Not able to find the pdf for this pattern. Has it been removed from your website?
Wasn’t able to locate the pdf pattern on the site.
The pattern can't be downloaded. Shows

I figured out how to download pattern. Tks
Hello Vicky you are amazing
So are you.
That basket would be great for clips.
That's mainly what I use it for too. They get unruly sometimes. 😊

"unsewing tool"?? Lol.
In my day, they were called "seam rippers," clearly and precisely named for the shame of having to rip out incorrectly sewn or misplaced seams! My seam ripper (I named him "Jack") and I became best buddies. :)
I'm sure she knows the name of the tool, but when you are filming a video and get a bit nervous you tend to lose your words.
Look up Jack the seam ripper. I bought one it is beautiful.
Is the PDF still available somewhere?
This is such a good idea! So sad I can't subscribe right now. Maybe in the future!
Your PDF is not available…?
thank you very much :)
Hello Vicky. I will like to ask you where I can buy the snap that you used , but in a small box? Or bag? Thanks
Hi Maria, you can buy them at Kamsnaps.com. I think you can get them at hobby stores too but I got mine at Kamsnaps and am very happy with them. They have tutorials to watch too so you can learn before you buy.
What is the mat made of?
Can anyone tell me how many fat quarters do we need for this? Please I need more information!!! Thanks in advance!
I used parts of 8 fat quarters for it to give it a scrappy look but you can use pieces of fabric.
@@CreativeNotions thank you so much!!!
Did you use one dawl or two?

Yeah it would have been nice to see the mat in place with dowel and machine on it, aye?
@@elsie3255 I can send you pictures if you would like
I couldn't download the pattern😥
not the one send me your email and I can send it to you
Maybe I missed the details on the reason for the dowel, so I assume it is to keep the machine in place.
The pockets can get heavy when they get full pulling the mat forward. The dowel keeps it in place using the machine as a stop
Creative Notions okay. That makes perfect sense. Should have figured that out. I enjoyed the tutorial and in the process of making the mat. Thank you!!
Where do you get the caps
They are from kamsnaps.com
