Exactly what I was looking for! I could not get my AP to be recognized on the controller. I didn't realize I just had to click on AP, adopt and wait a bit. Thank you!
Thank you for your video, it helped me setup my first access points (which works fantastically). I tried other UA-cam videos but they always missed something, you covered every base!
Instead of doing this, simply launch the mobile app "Unifi Networks" and search for an option called "Standalone devices". Than you can configure an access point or other device as a standalone device on your phone and it remains available into your app for future configuration/upgrade..
One advice with Guest is to create a Group called Guest. Then you will be given an option to throttle guest logins. I have visitors login as 5mbps up and down since I dont want them using my bandwidth. Once you create that group then go where you created the Guest Ssid and password area and select then find the group field and select the group we just created so that it applies to that Ssid. Test after..
Great video. I understand I need this software for setting up the AP. Do I need to run this 24/7 if I want to use guest network or its just one time setup? I don't have any device that is running all the time. I am asking because I am planning to use only one unify AP with my ISP provided router (small house that's why). I have a slower plan however I want to have high speed connection between my devices hence I chose unifi AP.
Great video! One question, I have 3 UAC-AC-LR at home without Cloud Key controller. Can you please guide me a setup in a way my Wi-Fi devices automatically connects to the best AP and switches automatically if moving inside the house? I would like only 1 network to show in my wifi devices. Thanks!!
A cousin of mine spare me an AP AC LR I already have a wifi router but i would like to replace it with this AP that seem to provide a better signal, my router doesn’t have a POE port I don’t if i need to keep the router on the network or just connect the AP directly to ISP Modem(Wired). In some website I read that I would need a DHCP service so is not recommended to connect the it directly to the modem, if this is the case can i plug it to the router and deactivate the router’s wireless feature and use the AP’s instead as wifi devise, I don’t really need to expand my network, my house is not that big but i feel that my router’s wifi is not providing me my actual internet speed
Did you have these access points plugged directly to your modem/router? I have a modem/router (4 ports) combo which comes from my Internet provider and my assumption is I can just buy these access points (with their POEs) and plug directly to my router. Correct? Thanks! Great video
Hi please could you tell me if I could connect this access point without creating a new network. For example so it boosts the signal of your original network integrated to your original network so it just boosts the signal, and create a new network
Hey - If you are using the Unifi AP it sets up as a separate network, unless you are connecting it to a already set up Unifi network which you can then add this AP too.
When I click on access points, my controller says All (0). There's nothing pending adoption, but the light is solid blue. What does that mean? I have the cable going directly from the access point to a POE switch. I'm not using the POE injector. Do I need to be?
These AP are usually powered with Poe so you need a lab cable to power the Unifi AP anyway. The way to run without a cable would be to mesh several Unifi APs together and to do this one of them would need to be connected to a router.
“If you haven’t used this program before, it will ask you too create an account”. (2:16 min) Using UniFy Controller (6.0.43), it unfortunately didn’t ask me too create an account. I’m happy with video’s like these that are trying too help. But unfortunately this vid has the same omission like the Quick Start Guide. Not a word about how and where too create an ‘Admin name and Password’. So right now I’m still stuck at step 2 of 6. See if there are other vids that do address the problem of how to get an ‘Admin name and Password’.
Hey Mark - the part at 2:16 is the account for Unifi - you simple go to the web address you see in the video and create an account which i tell you to do at that point in the video.
Nice video, i have a couple of questions, can two switches from the unifi range with the access points be setup using the unifi controller software without the USG and the cloud key, but then later be added?
Hey - Yes you can have just Unifi switches and AP’s on the network without a USG - BUT you will need something on your network to control the dhcp range so maybe a router from a ISP and also you will have to run the controller on a PC to set up etc, but it is possible.
Say I have 2 things I physically plug in - if I get the secure gate way I can plug in those two things - add two AP's and be covered in my small 1400 sq. ft home w/ a cloud key and a switch?
Wait so you need the software running all the time? I thought you could install 2 AP LRs using the desktop application and then close the application once you've configured them?
Unfortunately, I’m getting an error when it comes to launching the browser to mange the network. The site is saying that it is not certified apparently and I’m using Opera as my browser. If anyone is willing to help me, please do! Let me know if you need more information
Sorry I’m a noob but you didn’t state why you would or wouldn’t need a cloud key? As I’d like to know if I can JUST by the WAP and get a switch from for example TP Link purely because I’m on a budget. Would appreciate some advice.
Hey George, Yes you can have a switch from another manufacturer. The answer to why and why not for the Unifi Cloud Key is to much for answers in here. The point of this video is to show that you can if you want run the ap without buying more kit.
The Computer Lab thanks for your reply! Ive seen so many great reviews on the Ubiquiti WAP and at first I was going to go with a mesh system. But now I’ve changed my mind but do not want to overpay!
WTF .. all this just to setup an AP? Just get a TP Link, Netgear or D-Link one and plug it in. Configure if you want via any browser or just use with base settings.
If only it was that simple and straight forward. Try moving your setup to another state and another house. Lets see how much BS you have to go though to re establish service, YOU WILL BE RIPPING your hair out by the roots. I love how you guys show the setup out of the box. This is not real world. Lets see a setup that was installed elsewhere, no backups, reset devices, new config from scratch. Then you will soon hate the whole damn setup. You will spend hours if not days trying to setup. Guaranteed!

Thank you for the “UniFi Network” app tip. It worked great and took me about 5 min to get my new AP configured.
Kevin 😀👍
Managed to get it working directly after watching your video, thanks. Factory guides didn't work.

Thanks for the feedback

Do you need to create vlans to create a wireless network
No - VLANS are not needed to create a UniFi WiFi network
@@TheComputerLab so what’s the use of creating VLANS and what’s the limit range between the VLANS

Great quick setup for a phone guy like me
i cant find anymore the unifi controller online! help!
If I set up 2 access point devices at home ( 1 per floor), do I use the same ssid and password for both?
Great video. Very helpful!

How do you set 2.4 and 5 networks?
Click on the Access Point the click on the gear icon - configuration - then scroll down..its there

Hi, Can i configure 2 AC LITE to work seamlessly together without the cloud key and/or ubiquiti gateway/switch , just the included power injector ?
Could anyone do me a favor that I need the mdmp of uap-ac-m 、uap-ac-lite or uap-ac-lr to unbrick my devices?

I can’t get the AP section to come up. It says “UniFi access points are required”😒
Easier than I thought
