"In America, people just drive everywhere."
Me an Indian: laughs while driving on sidewalk
Driving on sidewalk while writing this comment
Good one
I love that about India xD Greetings from Germany
Thank You. I laughed hard after reading your comment
Because roads are reserved for cows.
"In America every lane is a fast lane"
Germany: *laughs in Autobahn*
Well yes, but actually no. Trucks drive one the right lane, normal cars in the middle and on the left lane(s) cars, which drive everything between 150 and 250 km/h XD
@@socialcake9350 As a truck driver in the US, that that system in Germany sounds awful.
Red Leader There is a „Rechtsfahrgebot“ which means you have to drive in the right side. The middle lane is for those who wants to overtake but drive slower then most of the cars. If you would have to go back and for the whole time you can stay in the middle lane and use the left lane to overtake but unless you drive 180km/h or faster you don’t stay in the left lane because the general rule on the Autobahn is: there is always Someone faster than you. It helps withe the traffic a lot and you can drive really relaxed. It’s illegal to drive faster on the right side then the left
@@redleader7988 what? Why? All vehicles that are over a certain weight have a speed limit on the autobahn. This speed is slower then passenger cars. So to avoid collisions due to insane speed differences, the trucks, etc. are required to only drive on the right lane. Where is your problem with that?
@@silphonym As long as it works, and trucks are able to pass safely with traffic in the other lanes speeding by at ungodly rates, then fine.
I'm from Croatia. I had knee surgery, I got two screws. I was in the hospital for 8 days and then at home for 4.5 months. Watching movies and playing games hh. Once again, I came to a small operation to remove the screws. I paid 0 (zero) euros. I have been working for 9 years and paying taxes. And even if I was unemployed I would still pay nothing!
thats because everyone else would be picking up the bill. if we didnt have so many freeloaders in the US especially from south of the border our medical expenses would be much much lower.
@@origionalwinja I have Heard that the problem is a poor management; the US taxpayer pays more for a worst care than in nearly every other developed country including many quite less rich: an example of poor management is paying the drugs from pharmaceuticals Instead of using generics,( the pharmaceutical lobbies seems to be more powerful in the US than in the EU).
@@origionalwinja Maybe I'm wrong but as I see this, watching the situation from EU, it isn't really about freeloaders but that the whole health industry is private sector in the US and very much profit-oriented. This isn't the case here in Europe as even if a private sector exists too, most hospitals and ambulances and such are ran by the state. Funding is coming from our national insurance what we pay through our income tax (so it isn't really personal decision, you just see the deduction on your payslip) and the system isn't about profit but to get the best for the money. Quality control isn't coming from the 'vote with your wallet' mentality but the 'vote with your vote" one, as any drop in the quality of universal healthcare can definitely hurt the popularity of the ruling government. So much that most EU countries spend more on their healthcare systems than what they collected via insurance. Opposite to this, afaik there are only about 200 state hospitals in the whole US and most of them are for military personnel anyway. The rest are private and they milk the patients and the state wherever they can. This way it is imposssible to maintain any quality universal healthcare.
@@sergiofernandez4566 it’s just about profit nothing else, the same way pills are handed out left right and centre the pharmaceutical market is mega bucks over there.
@@siililiik ur exactly right it’s all about the profit, every thing in America is about money.
American problems europeans don't understand: Going into crippling debt after a hospital visit.
@@firstnamett4656 That doesn't really even anything out.
I can go to a hospital and all I have to pay is a parking ticket.
Also, Americans don't earn more (at least in my field) and groceries are generally super cheap in Germany (and yes, cheaper than in the US, also higher quality).
Fuel is quite expensive, sure. But I don't really need a car anymore, since here I can do anything by foot / public transport.

@@firstnamett4656 no it doesn't
A bypass operation in germany costs a little more than 20,000€. In California the same operation costs 220,000$. That *_is_* the real american problem!
@neuralcircuit Europe: That cost is approx 300 a month (somewhat more if you get paid more). It covers, for that price, your kids and married partner if he/she has no job. Most important medicines are (for the time being) heavily subsidised. Ok, all of this generally topped-up with other taxes (not sure how much). Private medical insurance is a kind of "jump the queue" system (in terms of easier access to doctors in their private practice) and more flexible for timings (but that is 50-70 a month)... Now... If you loose your job, you are still covered by the public health system. Pre-existing conditions are an alien concept, you are just, covered... my god... just the term gives me goosebumps... In an environment where the older you get the less income and higher medical requirements... The peace of mind alone is worth every cent! Interesting fact: Look at the average lifetime in European countries and how USA (the richest country in the world), compares...
@neuralcircuit Yes, fair points, definitely not free, although at the end people in Europe are well covered although in the US a fair amount have very limited options to see a doctor if no insurance, let alone get medicine, treatment, etc.... The 300 I mentioned is mostly direct to healthcare, then there are other taxes yes, and yes all comes from taxes. From a salary perspective you may make more money in the US, but I have the feeling this applies to Medium/high paying jobs or if you have your own business, meaning a fair chunk of the population in the US can be left out "of the dream". In addition you have the worldwide push for consumerism (spending keeps the economy moving etc...), but if you are "guided" to spend and to take on unnecessary credit then you are not saving for future/tough times... At least in Europe, you invest from the start (even if not needed), and you are covered on that aspect for the future
Ok yeah seriously, America....WHY are the taxes not added up on the price tag before hand! what
So we can keep mathematics fresh in our heads, also each state charges differently.
@@gildedliberty6090That makes it even more strange, I understand the keeping up with the maths I can kinda get onboard with that, but keeping up with the tax on foods in different states you go to just seems like something that lazy shop owners would have you think ;)
@@gildedliberty6090 well but why the shop itself doesn't put the final price tag on display? They know the price when you are at the register or does it work differently?

BEST COMMENT EVER !
A lot of food items we have are fucking weird. Twinkies were never meant to be a cereal. You read that right; look it up.
From Dave Barry, a humor writer:
Pharmacy commercial: Take this medicine, or you will die
Warning: This medicine will kill you
Exactly I always laugh at those commercials. "We'll cure your mild constipation. Side effects include cancer, arthritis, mange, hallucinations, heart attacks, high blood pressure, spontaneous combustion, suicidal ideations, migraines, rupture of the appendix, and permanent brain damage. Life was meant for better things than constipation. Ask your doctor about _________"
In Germany, there is a universal statement for all pharmaceutical commercials:
"Bei Risiken und Nebenwirkungen lesen Sie die Packungsbeilage und fragen Sie Ihren Arzt oder Apotheker."
In other words: Read the instructions and ask a doctor or pharmacist. Anything beyond that is your own fault, you square.
@@fds7476 That makes sense.
Sorry im from Germany, what ist this Speed limit thing you where talking about?
@Marius S yes they exist and if there is no Speedlimit, there is traffic jam 😂. But usually you don't have more than 3 Lanes and the normal Speedlimit is 140-160 km/h sometimes 120. On county roads it's 100 km/h and in town it's 50.
I thought there was no limit on the auto bahns I’m sure there used to be no limit anyway, people would specifically go there to test drive cars.
I'm german and i would be glad to clear this up. Speed limits on the Autobahn just apply to certain areas. But there's no general, nationwide limit.
You might get into trouble tough, if you are driving above 130km/h and cause an accident or it was just not reasonable to drive that fast (e.g. if there is fog).
But yeah, there are still areas you can drive 200 or 300 km/h without breaking the law, when the conditions are right (weather, traffic, ...)
Last year some reasonable politicians suggested a general speed limit. Everyone freaked out, it was simply never talked about again.
These people talk about strange things ...
@@AlexTrusk91 I thought as much thanks for clarifying that.

Prescribing the wrong medication in Europe is usually called, and I don't want to get overly technical "medical malpractice."
I'm really surprised that americans don't sue the doctors....
i believe no one does out of fear that it could keep other hospitals from tending to you
Yeah ,here in Europe you can sue the hell out of them for malpractice
And is a crime.
Medicine is not an exact science. Misdiagonses can easily happen without it being malpractice.
normally in Italy if the person who delivers can't find someone to deliver to, then he'll put a piece of paper saying that he didn't find anyone, so the person who wants the delivery comes to the postal office and grabs the package, this is normally done with the "Poste Italiane"
Heck in the Netherlands they often just drop it off at your neighbours and leave a note.
The same in romania with the normal post, with private couries, they will call you to arrange something else and in the worst case they will take the package back to their warehouse and you can take it from there.
Same in Spain.
Same in portugal, with private curiers they will call you first and schedule the delivery.
"PostE italiane" not posta italiana first:
second poste are one of the worst mail service here in italy; about deliveries, they should deliver to someone that sign the delivery, but now with Covid deregulation u can see diffeerences bewtween professionals ar not; DHL, BARTOLINI, UPS allways (even now) deliver the package in front of me ( couse we need to keep distance) but others.... they usually ring, the time u came out package on the walkway and they're already gone.
Europe: come back in a couple of days we don’t want to unnecessarily prescribe the wrong medicine.
Usa: ah i feel a little dizzy, time to overdose on antibiotics
I want to argue that the pharmaceutical companies have it all wrong, they think anti-biotics are Nobel award winning products that make a lot of money.
Truth from my prospective is Simply water in storage then water sitting in copper pipes then accidentally an abrasion happens water is placed in wound to help clean then anti bacterial spray is used then the particles from the copper piping are also in the wound and the anti bacterial spray damages immune response and the microscopic copper particles are like a really bad electrolyte or enzyme that is a chain reaction for puss and inflimation to occur. Eventually the body heals but mostly the pharmaceutical companies want more money so some assistance damage from anti bacterial spray is useful for not helping anti bodies assist in an abrasion type wound.
Fell off my skate board got an abrasion on my knee then I got gange green lost my leg, cos pharmaceuticals wanted consistent profits.

I worked in Europe as an assistant in a veterinary practice. When we took X-rays and we know the people were poor/it was going to be an expensive operation, we gave a discount or sometimes it was (almost) free, we often even didn't tell it. It's a sort of solidarity. We had also some fractions of medicines/medicines that were (almost) expired but still good (if we were sure there weren't any dangers), to give them for (almost) free, only to poor people (and if they wanted). Sometimes I'm still a volunteer, but I do also studies, so it's difficult to combine.

Cheers! I just wanted to add a few things which were a huge culture shock to me while I was in the USA, don't know if anyone has experienced the same things. I was an exchange student in CO back in 2012. So, here are a few things:
1. High school curriculum - 4 classes per semester, much longer than in my home country. In my home country, I had 15 classes per year, lasting 45 minutes, while in the US I only had 8.
2. High school curriculum - choosing your own classes. In my home country, they were all fixed classes, no electives, while in the USA you are free to choose from one of the 'groups' to get the necessary points for your college application.
3. High school spirit and clubs - they don't exist in my home country xD
4. SHOWERS - This was a huge shock to me... All the showers in the US were fixed overhead showers, non-detachable. At home, I could detach the showerhead and move it around while showering xD
5. The mix of cultures - as mentioned in the video, the USA is a bit of an oddball when it comes to food. I was extremely surprised to see what an actual melting pot of cultures it was, not only in the aspect of cuisine.
6. Community service - volunteering in my home country is an optional thing not many do. In the USA a certain number of hours are essentially demanded by either your college or your high school.
7. The community - maybe not a thing in big cities like LA, but in smaller ones, the community can really be very close-knit. I was honestly surprised by the culture of going to church and being a part of the community in many ways.
8. Everything is big - the sky seems bigger, all the events are 'big', every tragedy is big. In Europe, it seems to me, not many people make a big deal out of everything. in the USA, everything is big. For example: Christmas - I'm talking about house decorations, lawn decorations, presents, the family comes together - it's a huge deal.
Conclusion: I liked most of the culture shocks and enjoyed widening my horizons. However, I'm not sure if I'll ever be comfortable with that non-detachable showerhead....
You know, they make detachable shower heads too. You just have to get one from the hardware store and replace the non-detachable with a detachable (which I've done in my own home, here in America). Problem solved.
@@adinal1958 You don't get to do this in a hotel room, or in a place you rent only for a couple of months, when you travel to the US for business or school.
Another thing that's odd for Europeans in the US is toilets. In the US, the bowl is filled with water and empties then refills when you flush. In Europe, there's just a little water in the bowl, and a strong burst of water cleans everything and flushes it down the drain when you flush. The first reaction, when both an American and an European sees a toilet from across the pond, is to assume it's broken.
Wow! I really love it when people come to the U.S.A. and then, talk about their experiences here (whether negative or positive). Very glad that you had a mostly positive time and interesting to hear your points. Whew! Sorry about the shower head thing haha.

I don't remember the turning right on red because we never had a car there but it's probably the same as the rest of Europe. Also, here in the US the cops usually let you go between 5-10 mph before they pull you over but in Czechia if you go 1-2 mph over they'll pull you over. Great video. Hvala vam!

Thank you for the laugh. And the cry.
Welcome to America. Subscribed.
The "medical system " in the U.S. typically survives on less than 5% margins. There is a reason there are so many hospital mergers. It takes a big, efficient accounting department to make medicine possible at all. Americans insist on more too. No one does intensive care better than we do. There is no such thing as a traditional ward in U.S. hospitals, There are never more than two patients in a room. and private rooms are not just for the rich. Maternity patients are pampered. Wait times for surgeries and advanced diagnostic procedures are much lower than in Europe.
@@herbertshallcross9775 False on almost every count. The medical industry is greed oriented, unlike Europe. Lived in both for 30 years each. BIG differences.
In America wait times are longer by far for simple doctor visits. Call today and get scheduled for next month. I walk straight in to my European GP.
The costs are higher because it is a high profit margin business. Doctors and nursing staff make insane money compared to European counterparts. A good friend, a nurse in MN, would take day time 12 hour shifts at several medical facilities and hospitals in the area for $1,200 per day no problem. That's more than a blue collar worker in America makes in 2 whole weeks, many 3, or 4. That's 1.5x more than a Doctor that runs an entire hospital wing or department in Europe.
Too many differences to mention. Nothing will change.

Someone i know with severe schizophrenia ended up burning down the place they lived in because of how desperate they got and because they did not receive the help they needed after years. Thankfully no one got hurt by that fire, but these things should not be left unchecked. And i still don't think the person is getting any help.
And i can use myself as an example too. I live in a dysfunctional family which is highly unlikely to change. I have tried getting help from the different "public systems" several times, but they don't know a sh*t about how to actually handle families like mine, so i have given up on that. It has taken me three years just to get the diagnoses i now have, and i still have not got any medicine or therapy/coaching or anything like that, which is what i originally was trying to get. It's rough, and if i am going to be honest, i really don't know what to do anymore

@@Neo587 @TeasingSafe3 I am not going to bother to talk with someone for the sake of talking about my mental problems. Doing that before might have helped me a little, but not now, and i am pretty sure my experience will be similar to what it was when i was out trying to get my diagnoses. It's just too much effort to try to get someone with limited time and resources to talk about complex problems. It is also asking a lot from the person within that time frame. I wish i could get the therapy i needed, and i should have started to get that three years ago. But if i am going to be realistic i will have to learn things and get trough things on my own.
I was able to find out that i have, ADD, Aspergers, Dysthymia and Generalized anxiety on my own before getting those diagnosed and confirmed. The part about getting diagnoses was easy, it just took forever. Coaching or therapy does not seem like it is going to happen though, i have asked about it everywhere. From what i can tell, in theory it should be possible to get therapy/coaching now, but it doesn't look like anything is going to happen any time soon

The family problems are something else entirely. It effects me a lot, but there is not much you can do when people don't want to change.
Sorry if anything here is confusing
Actually here in the U.S. we are supposed to pass on left also. We just quit caring when a slow driver is in the passing/fast lane.
It is not illegal in CT or MA, at least on interstates. 😐
Actually in Europe if you're on the right lane and pass a slower vehicle that is on your left it's fine (he's actually wrong for being there, but this in not enforced).
What you CAN'T do is finding a slower vehicle in front of you and move to the right to overtake it.
So passing on the right is actually fine. Overtaking on the right is wrong.
Yes. But there are also very slow drivers or bad drivers who will drive on that far left lane, which may leave you with no choice but to pass them on the right lane. Sometimes you will get large big-rig trucks that will cut you off in your lane, too. Honestly, I could see why a visitor to the U.S. might be horrified by how we drive.
This actually depends on the state; some states technically legally require it (but everyone ignores it), some states merely encourage it (but everyone ignores it), and some states don't require or encourage it (and everyone ignores it).
In NJ I know it is state law, not in CA as far as I know, at least the driver's manual the DMV gives you to prepare for the test mentioned nothing about it, and I looked closely.
I’m from Europe, too.Oh so that is why the american recipes i have tried turned out horrible...I also thought cups are mugs...🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Yeah. When I first learned about American cooking measuring i read a seemingly German recipe that actually was translated and in German, the words for cup and mug are the same. I was at the beginning of learning to cook and sat in my kitchen like "What size of a cup shall I use? I do have 200, 330 and 500 ml, which one do they mean?"
From Wikipedia: "Measuring cups usually have capacities from 250 mL (approx. 1 cup) to 1000 mL (approx. 4 cups = 2 pints = 1 quart), though larger sizes are also available for commercial use." I can totally understand why someone visiting the U.S. would be confused. If you were born and raised in the U.S. or got acclimated to it, that's one thing. We have *a lot* of confusing things in our country, some things that even we don't understand! LOL

Only 3 countries in the world use imperial. The US, Liberia and Myanmar. The rest of the world uses metric as official standard.
Myanmar ( Burma ) is going to change it soon ( Wikipedia ).
Didn't know that!
The UK is mixed Imperial and Metric
@@1HotLegendLS True. Officially it's metric but they're giving the people time to adjust. That's also normal. You can't expect from old timers to simply adjust in a day so it begins at schools. That's also how any other country did this transition.
I also hear that Myanmar is switching to metric so that leaves only 2 countries with official imperial. The USA and Liberia.
So I understand that Americans on the street don't know many feet are in a mile because it has no logic at all where metric is all about logic.
It's also why the American military ground forces adjusted to metric.
NASA uses metric but Lockheed Martin don't so they got that mixed up and people died. So it begins at schools teaching metric, use it as the official standard for international trade and slowly change the road signs in both miles and kilometers (like in the UK) and end up with just metric.
So one third of all countries using imperial are capable of landing men on the moon.

So, healthcare isn't free, and neither should it be. Your government collects taxes and then pays your doctors. We keep our money and decide for ourselves if we want to got to the doctor and then pay for them ourselves. No one else is entitled to our hard earned money. You will not be turned away, you will just owe the bill---the money your government already collected from you. This is individual freedom. Me, myself and I deciding if that is where I want my money to go. It is not that hard. Even with all of that, there are still foreign travelers that still want to live in America. Obviously, it's not something that would make them turn away from seeking that sort of freedom.
The drinking age is imposed by federal law. Technically, it says the minimum possible drinking age is 18, but then any state that sets the drinking age at below 21 will lose its federal funding for interstate highways
Mafia style
Essentially the reason that funding thing happens because:
The states and government have some powers that are shared and some that are exclusive to the states/federal government. In order for the federal government to get laws that it wants passed but lacks the power to pass because it is the states' rights to have control over that specific thing, the government with have mandates in which they basically say "if you don't pass this, you won't get funding for something". That something is usually hundreds of millions of dollars, like the highway systems, and many states will agree so that they can get that funding
WRONG! This is NOT true.
You can die in war at 18 but cant be able to drink until 21... makes sense to me
@@karlmauer5474 some clarification more than that would be useful.
Yes, while the minimum wage for servers is something like $2.13, if that + tips does not equate to minimum wage, the employer legally has to make up the difference.
In Hungary, you don't even need to be employed to rent an apartment. There is no background check of any sort.
In the UK it will depend on whether you are renting from a private landlord or the local council or housing society.
In Norway, some may want it, others doesn't give a crap so long as you pay the rent. :)
In the U.S. I once checked out a place for rent. College town. There were many reasons not to rent it but the guy saying I could pay him and move in today with no credit or background check was not surprising. So don't worry, it's not just you.
I live in Montana USA and quite a few years ago (late 1990's I think) there was NO speed limit on interstates. I think they said the limit was "reasonable and prudent."
