- As hundreds of people affected by Hurricane Beryl arrived in Kingstown from the Southern Grenadines on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, a resident of Canouan says her family 'lost everything' to the storm.
It is so sad to see so many people struggling after the hurricane! May God bless you!

Life in many Caribbean islands can be very tough and rebuilding a struggle when you have little to no money. Most people only see the Caribbean as stunning islands with friendly laid- back people - they don´t see that many have a hard life and are dependent on their relatives abroad to send money

I've experienced homelessness when I was 45 years old. It was the best listen life thought me. It made me realize how strong and resilient I am.

This is my second day sitting watching this tragedy happen. Every one is praying and sending condolences. The mouth says lovely words and the pencil writes heart felt banalities. Prayers are all well and good from the standpoint of comfort and wellbeing. Prayers are not filling the belly’s of the poor, poor children and the homeless mothers that will be under this plight for many years to come.
Slip your hand in your pocket, purse, and let this speak of the power of giving. They say that money is the root of all evil. Well, think what you have and what they don’t have and draw the line in your heart and give any thing other than platitudes.

I went through hurricane Hugo back on the island of Montserrat. Luckily our roof was concreate and few neighbours knock on our door so we let them in

I feel sorry for them. When my island was devastated by a hurricane SVG sent workers to help with public utilities. I know we are too small to send workers but will be sending money to the SVG government recovery fund.

The Caribbean community in London has been very responsive. Everyone has got together to help. We have many drop off points where people can leave their donations. Thank god there are still some compassionate and caring people out there. These people are in desperate need of help and assistance and I hope the momentum continues and doesn’t wane.

What a disrespectful comment. If you´re in your 60s+ and lose absolutely everything you´ve saved up for in life you´d be pretty sad too. How many years will it take for her to rebuild her life? Many people don´t have all kinds of insurance in the Caribbean when they lose their house etc it´s gone and you start over. Show some compassion!

They have their kids selling Chicklets in the streets to make 10 bucks USA per day, have 4 little 2 and 3 year old's making 40 dollars per day X 30 days a month 1200.00 USA Bucks per month, and this is only the kids, then the Mother and Father both working looks like 2000.00 USA bucks per month....
Living on a Shanty Palapa dirt floor with income of $ 24,000.00 ! that's excellent, these people have money in the bank, they not stupid. Storms roll through all the time these people know this and they prepare, they not stupid.
