- Watch More on the Thomas Flyer: • This Car Matters: Thom...
Only a few short decades after the idea of the modern combustion engine automobile came about did a few daring men decide to race around the world from New York to Paris! This 1907 Thomas Flyer was only vehicle to represent the United States in the 1908 New York to Paris Race at it emerged victorious!
Look into the details of the Thomas Flyer and how it went from being the chariot of international heroes, to falling out of the public eye, until eventually being deemed historically significant and added to the National Historic Vehicle Register!

What a great example of a beautiful car that was built to last and what a history behind it too, AWESOME 👍👍
Would love to see this in a racing game! It’s such an important piece of racing history!
If you know anyone at Forza/Gran Turismo/Assetto Cora’s/etc. let us know! We already have it laser scanned!
This car was released as an AMT 1/25 model kit back in 1976 probably through the encouragement of Mr. Harrah. He had several of his cars made into models. I'm building the Thomas right now and gathering research. It's hard to know what to believe. I wonder how much "imagineering" went into the restoration perhaps to make it more attractive. Photos taken mid-race show a profound number of differences. I'm grateful that Mr. Harrah saved so many unique and wonderful cars with incredible research and documentation. Confused by what happened with this one.
The car competed in "The Great American Race 1986" driven by Ginni Withers. The Great American Race is a time distance rally type race that was inspired by New York to Paris race that the Thomas Flyer won.
😊❤ top car en drivers in dat time
I wonder how many times did they say Are We There Yet.?
There a good movie called "The Great Race", with Tony Curtis Jack Lemon, Peter Faulk, and Natalie Wood, it's a comedy very loosely based on this race.
That was one if my favorite movies when visiting my grandparents. I find it hilarious every time I rewatch it.
To think that just four years earlier, people drove across the US for the first time and it was only barely possible.
try that with so modern vehicles lol
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
City Chity bang bang was a one off car built just for the movie This was a production car for sale to the general public
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car from the movie is a early mid or late 1900s take place time period
It was only partly the car. Mainly it was the mechanic. What was his name? Without the mechanic that machine was scrap metal long before the race ended. The mechanic was the hero.
His name was George Schuster He was also driving the care at the end of the race
