My fish actually awakened me this morning making all kinds of splashing noises. I thought maybe there was a heron trying to get to the fish, but they were spawning! My pond now looks like there are soap bubbles in it. God's creatures are so amazing and beautiful! Thanks for sharing your video!

It's amazing how many supposed 'pond experts' are taking advantage of pond owners by telling them they need this or that chemical product and new and improved filters and such. Skim most of the foam out with a regular pool skimmer and give it a couple of days and all will settle down and clear right up. Calm down, it's just spawning season.
I can't stand the pet stores that push dozens of chemicals!
I am a brand new Koi fish & pond owner, and have been educating myself like crazy on everything that is Koi and backyard pond related (mainly through UA-cam vids lol).
I am fairly new to your channel, and have watched a couple of your videos already, but today was the first time I started looking up the Koi breeding and spawning process, and what to expect in the future. Note: None of my Koi (along with a few Comets and Shubunkins) are mature enough to mate, as they range in ages, and are still quite young (from babies from this Spring's spawn, to a little over a year old, from Spring 2021 spawn).
Anyhow, I have been googling a lot on the subject, (and wasting a lot of time, to be honest), but I just watched your video now, and it is BY FAR the most educational! You explained everything with such clarity that no other website I have searched has explained! So, thank you soooo much for that!
Anyhow, with that said, I don't want to get into the Koi breeding business at all, but I simply want to know what to expect and what to look out for when, and if, any of my fishies decide to spawn. Your video told me everything I was wanting to know (except for 1 question, which I will ask you at the very end). 😉
I am very grateful for all the time you have spent on your videos! They have been a God-send to me!

Here's my Question:
How long do female Koi stay "pregnant" with their eggs before she releases them?
Basically, I just don't know how the egg production process works for the female Koi before she releases the eggs. Ya know what I mean?

Very glad my video could be so helpful! The duration of the spawning period can range from a few days up to a week or more while the lady in question awaits the right environmental and hormonal conditions to release eggs
I'm new to the Koi fish thang.. I have a great little pound and Was priviledged enough to have witness this today awesome event and watching your video confirmed what was going on thank you very much
Extremely Helpful! I have very large Koi and they're in full mating behavior now. My poor female is pretty banged up but I"m using the Melafix and monitoring my salt levels to help their gills and slime coats. Thanks again for the explanation and the video!

@@FoisyAquatics It's also helpful to have a pro in your corner. I have a local vet who does see fish. My big female has more going on than egg binding and she's only got about a 50% chance - here's hoping, she's gotten some good shots and seems a bit more perky.

Thanks for this video. You confirmed my suspicions. We've had baby fish show up unexpectedly in the past, so at least all the eggs don't get eaten.

Thank you very much, I just got a few new orange Koi fishes and out of nowhere like 4 of them were doing that to 1. I thought they bullying it. She looks so tired now.... I was getting worried.

Thanks, my water got cloudy and I thought there was a problem with my filter. Turns out my koi are mating!
dont use filter when you breed that is not right just use airpump with airstone

Hello, cool video. Thank for for posting. My koi fish has done this a couple of times….but I have never had babies???? Will a female just lay eggs just to lay eggs
My pond is plainly no water plants or anything they can lay their eggs, do i have to put something like a stone? Or a net where they can lay their eggs?
Can males push the females out if the pond? I lost a koi from it jumping out?
This past week they were really active splashing around.
i live in the us and it’s winter right now and my males are trying to mate with my female why would that be when it typically happens during the spring? my koi’s/goldfish are also inside in a 55 gallon tank so does that have a big factor?
I've seen this too at 4 am in July in Sweden in a pond with goldfish and one koi. I assumed it was mating and the fish were unharmed.
Did you get rid of most or all of your goldfish in this pond?
I have a 640 gallon indoor pond with 3 koi and 1 comet. (before anyone bites my head off it's a temporary pond while I build a water world in my basement) I put in a homemade yarn mop, and they started spawning within the hour. Apparently they were just waiting for the "plant" to catch their BBs.

Foisy my male, FuManchu, is about 2' plus his butterfly tail. Our biggest female is a "ghost" koi at about 12" and she is growing quickly! She's grown at least 4" in the past few months.
Very informative, we could not figure out why our 4 Koi began chasing one another and acting somewhat aggressive. Supposedly the fish we bought are sterile but it seems quite possible that not all are. Brutus, the biggest of the group was being bullied or so we thought.
I’m curious about the floating planter - would you please tell me what you used to construct it (in addition to zip ties ;) ?
I bought them actually, called Nycon floating plant protectors!

My 2 koi spawned and never thought until when i woke up early morning i found too many eggs everywhere (on the side of the pond, in over flow filter, mostly in the pond bottom). I dunno if it will survive.

Very helpful. My koi (had them for about 6+ months) did spawn and mate in the spring. They didn't eat all the eggs /fry. I have a lot now and am watching them grow and develop color. Obvious natural selection going on (many of the fry were eaten...sadly especially the light colored ones), but the rest are coming along. We'll see what happens next year.

Mine just started spawning today they are about 3 years old..im hoping to keep a few of the eggs indoors with my guppie mothers..separated of course by a mesh screen..

2:13 whoa, now will look over fish pond if this happening. Got one koi looks quite unsually chubby. Some said it was overfeed.

I got maybe 4 or 5 that I've seen in the pond this year, but can't tell if they're goldfish or koi as they're still too small. I was surprised I got any, as my pond is bare bottom and all the eggs usually get eaten
