Morality is a luxury. Children in third world countries will pick your pocket not because they're evil but because they are poor in the third world. When there's more men than women at a club, it's more competitive. One of those unfortunate tactics is bullying other men who are seen as weaker. Women are seen as prizes and men will happily defend them like chests of treasure. I agree when there's abundance, there's less reason for men to behave in immoral ways. When you can afford to buy a sandwich, you have no need to steal one. It might not be the greatest sandwich but you can still afford to eat that day.
This applies also to employment. When you're getting plenty of interviews you don't need to lie on your resume or have your friends pretend to be past employers to make you look better. The less options men have in dating and employment, the more unscrupulous they may become. Decent men might find themselves telling white lies just to get by.
For women, dating is a buyer's market and they are the buyer. As long as she is at least average looking, if a woman keeps herself thin and pretty she will have plenty of dating options, even into her 40s and 50s. While they might not be the hottest thing anymore, women who took care of themselves and have decent genetics will still have dates in their later years. The point made about the men sleeping with the fat women is an example of how most guys like Wheat Waffles said have not many options in the dating world so they will often jump for the scraps other men leave behind or never want. People do that with work all the time as well - taking jobs that are just resume filler at best to keep themselves current no matter how terrible it is. But of course, they have to sell that job is being more satisfying than it is to maintain it, like the men who chase after the scraps.
Overall, the less options people have, the more immoral they become. The desperation leads to despicable tactics. But when they have plenty of options, they have less reason to commit immoral acts, and only the sociopaths continue to be evil.
In short, your points have been a) economics (supply and demand) and b) don't blame the player, blame the game.
Agreed, morality and ethics are a 1st world framework to keep what is already a flourishing society progressing. The same calibar doesn't exist in a world where survival is necessary over reputation and opportunity.

This is my half-baked hypothesis and purely speculative. I'm also speaking from a practical standpoint and in no way agree with forced marriages.
In the past, men could get away with being ugly and poor because for much of human history, matchmaking was a family and/or community affair. It is no surprise how the "ugly gene" has been allowed to survive for so many generations. I believe population decline in the west began when the europeans started to romanticize marriage in the 1700s.
The impact of not allowing females to choose their mates in the past has come back to bite modern males in the arse. Arranged marriages, still being a norm in India, is probably one of the major reasons why its population size has caught up with China. But that trend is also on the decline as modern Indian women are obviously fighting against such an antiquated practice.
I honestly don't believe ugly females really have that much of an edge over ugly males. I have an inkling that many ugly and average looking dudes would rather die alone, pay for sex or watch porn than be committed to a relationship with an ugly female.
I guess we are living in a time of the massive Darwin awards giveaway. Human population will drastically decrease and the ones left are the pretty people and the extremely wealthy with all the time in the world to sleep around or raise a family.

Good points. I've had similar thoughts. Looks wasn't nearly as big of an issue for women in the past because survival was more important. The only option most women had was to marry a man who could provide for her, so she was forced to value his resources more than his looks. This gave average looking and even ugly men an advantage in mate selection since women had limited options. Certainly pretty girls from more affluent families had better options and could be more choosy, but even they were usually forced to marry a man of property at some point.
This was the big reality I was forced to accept as a man of only average looks, skinny body build, and below average height. My college degrees, professional job, and fat bank account just doesn't mean shit to most women now because I just don't meet their standards in the looks and height department. However, my face is not ugly and I would have been considered a good catch 60 years ago. I just had the misfortune to be born in an era in which the world has degenerated into a feminist dystopian hellscape. I think the only path that short average looking men have left is to become wealthy in the hopes he can attract a decent looking woman who wants to be a housewife and not work.
I think the reality is that the vast majority of men alive today are not going to reproduce and that the gene pool is going to be made up of only pretty wealthy people and ugly poor people (easy breeders) in a few more generations. The average looking human may dissappear along with the middle class. We seem to be devolving into a caste system based on looks.

These were some of the worst human beings I've ever been around. I grew up in the hood and actually the people there are far more hardworking and kinder for the most part. I like your two suggestions and I have lived by them in my adult life. Stoicism and increasing your value are the two best things you can do. Being stoic is living by one's own standards and being true to them, in a moral way. Self-improvement, and living one's purpose is always a sure way to feel successful.
