I love your improvisation. I believe this idea has great potential especially with stabilised earth blocks. I am amazed by how much power the log generates and I think with a bit more research this can result into a single portable system which can be assembled and disassembled at site.
Your intuition is correct! With some metal and some welding skills, the potential is very large! That being said, if I had more skill working with wood, I could make a scissors style press to make the anchor point less important, but that's beyond my scope of expertise! If you decide to try something like this, please keep me posted! I love compressed earth bricks!

Good work, bud.. try using a wooden club (made from a branch) when batoning the axe, that hammer can ruin the axe
