      If it’s a new cogwheel that you replaced, then you’re going to need to put a C clip on the top of it in order to hold it down. They are pretty inexpensive and you can find them on eBay just look up Abu Garcia 6500 C clip

    Thanks for the video. Just pulled two 30 year old 6000's apart and cleaned them. Pretty cool to do but it has some parts that yours didn't. How do you get the upgraded bearings?

    • @riverlunacy
      @riverlunacy  2 роки тому

      I guess it just matters on the year of the model on what’s in it. Pretty easy to find on eBay or you can connect with Boca. Usually when I buy them off eBay I get them from a company called HP bearings. Never had a problem and a pretty good seller

      I always stress The importance of fishing reel maintenance. I’m sure those fishing reels run like new now, all the parts to wear out after long periods of time but if properly maintain they stay strong. Appreciate you watching, I hope you noticed that was a three part series. So some of those reel parts might be in it

      @@riverlunacy I did, I watched all three of them and I subscribed to your channel! How do you go about finding bearings and parts though?

    • @riverlunacy
      @riverlunacy  2 роки тому +1

      Online. You can go on eBay and go look up HP bearings they have a lot of the parts or You can Google Dads Ole Tackle he’s pretty good and has a lot of stuff, great guy to work with. Some of my really high dollar bearings I get from the UK and other parts but the two companies I mentioned can get you going pretty good. I would recommend buying a new set of drags for those old reels because usually those plastic disc drags just kind of melt. Plus they have a habit of sticking sometimes watch their worn, I’ll generally put just a little grease on my fingers and then rub them around in it if it’s the old plastic drags. They just need a little moisture don’t coat the life out of them

    hi james this is james from scotland could you please let me know if you can remove the two bearings from the worm for servising

    • @riverlunacy
      @riverlunacy  2 роки тому +1

      Unfortunately the one that is beside the brass gear cannot be removed. I try to maintain them with some oil. Around once a month or every other month at least depending on how much it is used I always try to get a tilt that side of the reel sideways and get a drop or so down in that. It’s a wonderful updade but I guess it does have that one flaw

    Good video man I was reading the comments n I saw 23 replies on one. Man did that guy ever figure that out? Lol don't know how he broke that cog off unless they didn't cut the top off first with the razor. I might have missed it but didn't remember you putting the shim back on the spool bearing. It's really late so I probably blinked lol. Anyway good video I'm sure it will help alot of people I've been breaking these reels down for years n the way you explained it will be easy to follow. Anyway have a good day and good luck fishing. You said you were near the river in Ohio I think? Do you ever fish for carp? I've been carp fishing for about 40 years now n they are brutes very fun fight. Anyway have a good one n best of luck from north Carolina

      Appreciate your comment. I have no clue how he busted that stem. I made this video a long time ago so I couldn’t tell you about the shim but I’m sure I put it back in maybe I missed telling people about it lol yes I do some carp fishing I actually have a couple carp videos on here. I usually go after them when the blue cats are in spawn just to get myself something to do and stop wasting bait and time. Ohio river fishing and I live in Cincinnati Ohio

      Hey man thanks for answering. I'll try to find your videos on carp fishing. I'm old school and pretty new to the you tube scene. I must've been walking around in the dark cause I look up different things all the time just to come up with ideas I might have on anything. It's so cool I never knew so much information was really out there. Anyway as far as carp fishing goes I fish in alot of jackpot carp ponds where we put the money up n see who gets the biggest of the hour day week or whatever is going on at the time it varies. It's been years ago since I was in Ohio I was in belpre and saw a catfish pond that had the same type setup. They had huge catfish stocked in the pond. Anyway have a good one man. Thanks again.
