I love OR coast, and Willamette Valley, and the Cascades, and the high dessert area too. It is all beautiful. Can't wait to retire there soon.

We lived in Salem for a decade between the mid-80's to the mid-90's ... and then left as we moved around a lot (including the Pearl District in Portland) to chase our careers. When we retired we chose to return to Salem and live in a condo in the downtown core. We get most of what we want with comparatively little of what we don't want.
I had a smile when you talked about the downtown merchants being "welcoming." In the background was a clip of The Book Bin. This outfit got in my face for having a backpack. I was lectured and treated like a criminal. I left. That was eight years ago ... and I have not been back. Crappy little nazis. Just saying.

I cant imagine thinking of Portland as a desirable place to live. It almost a 2nd world situation there.
