    This is crazy, twice now you've put out the exact repair I have to do on my colorado less than a week prior to me having to do it. Been repairing cars my whole life but your videos are just perfect as a case-specific reference and I really appreciate the quality of both filming and explanations.

    Awesome. Thanks a lot. I fixed my 2011, 2.9L Colorado truck this morning by doing exactly this! I don't have a vacuum line on the front like this one, but everything else was spot on! My truck would try to go dead when I was coasting into a parking spot, or backing into one. Mine was dirtier than yours, but a 5 dollar bottle of throttle body cleaner from advanced auto parts, this video, an hour of time....perfect again. You saved me about 300-400 bucks!

After cleaning, I did your 3 minute idle, 1 minute off. 3 minute idle on again, 1 minute off. This took care of the light like you said it would. The young guy at advanced auto parts checked my computer. He tried to tell me I needed some kind of electronic piece, or that I may have a burned wire. Great video, thank you. The carbon build up blocks the air around the throttle body used for idle. The ecu then has to open the throttle to prevent stalling which causes some surging before it settles out. For colarado simply clean around the throttle blade opening. Other vehicles might have idle air ports or holes in the throttle plate or even a seperate idle air control valve. My truck didnt look bad at first sight but sure enough it was the issue, Thank you!

    Thank you for the video. Really appreciate you including the relearn process after cleaning the throttle body.
    Should the negative batter cable be removed prior to cleaning unit? I’m guessing so seeing as there are electrical connections that need detaching and because you included the relearning process.
    Question, is there any situation that you might be doing a vehicle repair in which disconnecting the battery isn’t recommended? Otherwise, I’m just going to assume that doing so, is (at worst) a safety precaution when doing repairs and just make it part of my routine when working on my truck.
    Thanks again. Como se llama? Una vez, muchas gracias!

    • @backyardchevy328
      @backyardchevy328  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, it would be safer to do with the negative terminal disconnected...well the drawback to disconnecting the battery is it may forget all the learned adjustments so some cars may not want to run so good til it relearns those values..but yes other than that risk its always safer to disconnect the battery before any work that involves anything electrical.

      @@backyardchevy328 thank you, and good to know. Hey, I have another question.
      I had a person working on my 05 Chevy Colorado a couple years ago and he set my resonator box on fire because he had messed up my pass lock system and was trying to fix it (which we did a workaround for by cutting a white/blue wire behind the steering column). He replaced the resonator box with one that looks similar to the one I had before. However, when starting to remove my throttle body earlier today, I noticed that the resonator box on this one doesn’t have a connection stem for attaching/detaching the hose going to the fuel pressure regulator.
      He got the current resonator box from a vehicle at a local pull a part junkyard. So, I’m wondering...is it possible that the one he got one off another Colorado of a different year or some other interchangeable gmc model that doesn’t have this connector stem for FPR hose? Because I’m not sure if my 05 Colorado should even have this stem on the resonator box like you have in this video here, but I’m thinking it did because there is another area close to where I see your hose attaches to the resonator box that I’ve thought something must attach to that but is missing since he replaced the burnt one. And I’m an inexperienced DIY mechanic so, I’m not sure if my old one had a connection spot on it or not. I’m thinking it did because I recall seeing (what looks a lot like ) an FPR valve hose at Autozone Online for my 05 Colorado lying around my shop sometime since this event a couple years ago.
      It just makes me feel like he may have just removed this hose entirely since he didn’t have a stem connection to attach it to on this replacement resonator box.
      Any thoughts or insights on this?

  • @johnny1556
    @johnny1556 3 роки тому

    Hey backyard Chevy, it's good to see you do some work on that Colorado, I have a 2006 with a 2.8 I noticed your engine seems to be different than the one I have, because I don't have that small vacuum line on the side of my resonator. I work on my Colorado watching your videos, also sent you an email sometime back. I did this job on my Colorado but I did it with the throttle body on, cleaned it real good because it was running kind of rough also cleaned MAF sensor. But I didn't do the last step with the idle, just started it up let it run for a few minutes turned it off, and then took it for a ride she is running great. I have a question have you ever changed the transmission fluid on that vehicle or do you recommend it? I have 112500 miles on it, I bought it use with 105000. I hear that you shouldn't because it will mess up the transmission by putting new fluid. What is your take on this? Thanks for the video keep them coming it helps me out alot.

    • @backyardchevy328
      @backyardchevy328  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you🙂 i changed it when we got it at about 75k miles..what i do is smell the fluid if it looks brown and burnt i dont change the fluid..cause any burnt smell will definitely have worn out clutches..and if u change the fluid it may cause em to slip cause the fluid loses that gritty texture...but at that mileage if u feel and it looks like it hasnt been changed it may be risky.
