Great doing a video on this, its good to know that these expensive products aren't for everybodys workflow. Buy a product for what it can do, not what you think it can become. Kinda kills me cause I could see so much potential for chopping and having fun with the effects
Oh wow, I was doing this exact same exercise on my OP-XY yesterday, and my resolution was to just pre-chop my amen break on Ableton, then just import every chop on the drum sampler. Took me about 10 seconds hah. I hope sample chopping/timestretching feature comes to the OP-XY soon, that would be amazing. Still, I was able to add step component effects, reverse, etc. on the OP-XY and got some really cool results. That's where the real fun is!
Auto chopping would be great. What do you guys think about if they implemented the OP-1 style tape recorder for internal loops? Would that be redundant? Like if it recorded the master output so any external effects sends, punch in fx could be recorded in real time, paused while your sequences are going, and then bring that loop back in later? I think the sequencer is awesome but would also be nice if there was a gridless looper internally, with some tape style effects like speed changes.
I used to say this about the Z - that they should rework the tape track to be a sound on sound looper. Would be awesome with something more free in tandem with the sequencer just as you said ❤️
Do you know how the sequencer reacts when you play a note that’s longer than 1 bar? Does it cut off at the next bar or can it sustain a note across multiple bars? This is one reason I want a looper because other sequencers I’ve had didn’t sustain a note across multiple bars. I really hope they implement a regular tape looper! Can’t wait to get mine!
Excellent to hear! Your video on the arranger was extremely compelling and helped me make the decision to buy it. I want more videos from you, keep them coming!
@@Shimmery.mp3 There are a few benefits but use of the mute group is definitely one major benefit. There's no real benefit of a multi-sampler here, as all that does is aid in higher quality chromatic sampling across octaves. If you are wanting to chop up a piece of music, or a drum break, just load the sample into as many keys as you want chops on the drum sampler, and pick your start point on each key, then add it to the mute group. You don't even need to pick end points which allows you to play with the samples creatively, as whenever you trigger a new key, it will mute the other key. You can also change the pitch to adjust tempo across all keys, although as typical with TE there's no way to separate pitch and tempo to time stretch the way people are used to on Ableton and such, inside the device. edit: It also fixes the punch-in FX issue you mention in the video.
Other then fixing the punch-in FX i feel it’s the same result? Instead of mute group you make the multisampler mono and you dont need to set the end points. The multisampler also allows you to (IF you want) mess with playing your sample chromatic - you can do that very easily. The only thing i can think of that might be better for the drums is that the options for transient shaping ”might” be better. But need to check that out. whatever floats your boat i guess :)
@@Shimmery.mp3 the drum envelope control and play types are definitely more suited towards this type of sampling as well, obviously the way you did it works as well and there is some preference involved but the drum sampler is much more similar to typical samplers used for this type of thing.
Nice result and video. The cutting part and no copy-paste for individual sections of multisample was kind of painful to see though. Not hopeful for update soon but I feel like it could happen at some point.
great question! You dont get super much control unfortunatley. You can so some fading connected to the loop points on each sample. And then you can tweak the envelope of the track but then it affects all samples on that track the same way
I hope they definitely have it. I mean auto chop is in the OP1 field , Why would it not be in OPXY so I'm guessing they will eventually have a firmware update I hope.
If you want to delete all of them on one track then i think you hold Bar and press 2(under the screen). I’m just going of memory so don’t trust me 100%. Back up your project if you don’t want to mess it up
I’d say yes in its current state. The KO2 shines on its FX featurenset and also is wonderful with drum programming. It’s more of a linear numerical programming style, but you can get pretty detailed. KO2 just does sample chopping and warping that you currently can’t do on the XY. If that update ever comes then, you may have some overlap with the KO2. If you prefer to work in stereo, you’ll run into some walls. XY has way more polyphony and memory. Another thing is the abysmal user memory on the KO2
Yes of course it is. You should get all of the teenage engineering devices, throw them in your washing machine, pour in a can of chicken noodle soup... And you're ready to rock!! 🎉 🦃
The keyboard is actually really cool, snappy and easy to play some chords. I thought it will be a disaster, but I find it easier to play than on arturia or op1.
One of the beta testers said it was supposed to be available on launch, but they held off on the sample chopping feature due to needing more work. Really hope it drops soon. That’s really the big gaping hole in its feature set. Also since I’m whining about features, we really need sample level independent envelope editing and some bus channels. Need some of the KO2 FX also pretty please! My dream machine is almost there

I freaking love it, great job man! I'm excited to get one from the used/b-stock market, when they're available.
Thank you so much! ❤️ by then it might be even better with some firmware updates 😃
@ Yeah, that’s what I’m hoping for too! 😊
Doin the lord’s work with these videos 🙏
Thank you! Glad you enjoy them 🙏❤️

@captainlovett4724 if you record it in by hand it will sustain across to the new bar :)

Welcome to the 90’s
I think if you want to chop a sample, the best way is to use the drum sampler. Maybe i'll make a video on it as I think it might help some people.
What do you feel makes the drum sampler a better option? :)

Yeah agreed. This is how I chop on the OP-1.
Definitely would be great if they provided a way to copy/paste from one key to another.
Y. E. S. Definatley!
I’d be surprised you can’t this was super simple process on the OG OP1
Canceled my order. Thanks!!
Glad the video was helpful :)

Schooooppopping
Gotta show of that viking heritage
what’s the best way to tweak the transients on this thing?

-Why isn't it more useful to use drum sampler for this?- I've read the comments and found out. Good video.
Thank you! glad you found your answer :)
This is awesome! Btw, can you copy paste the sounds into different tracks like Elektron?
You can create presets of a track and then load it on how many tracks you want. Not sure if it’s exactly what you’re looking for tho?
I hope they definitely have it. I mean auto chop is in the OP1 field , Why would it not be in OPXY so I'm guessing they will eventually have a firmware update I hope.
I think you’re right :)
Hi buddy. How do you delete step components? Mine are stuck. I can’t find out how to delete them

Step components track in auxiliary tracks
Stop making these videos. I didn't like this company and I don't like it when I need to change my mind.
(great work!!!)
🤣 thank you! 🙏
and i’m sorry 😢❤️
hey! is it worth getting an ep-133 ko II if i’m already planning on grabbing the xy eventually?

Great vid. That metronome though..... why do they always choose woodblock! :-)
Thanks! :) haha sorry! Kind of forgot about it in this session. Maybe they’ll bring back the different metronoms from the Z
How do you find using the keyboard compared to the OP-1? Obviously the white keys are much shorter but does it make much difference?
The keyboard is actually really cool, snappy and easy to play some chords. I thought it will be a disaster, but I find it easier to play than on arturia or op1.
Yees!!
Oh yes :)
Yeah please add Zero Cross Snap.
That would be awesome! Love that
Kinda hard to understand why such an expensive piece of gear doesn't have proper sample chopping...
One of the beta testers said it was supposed to be available on launch,

They will add it all. Don’t worry guys.
@@wesp404yeh if this have chop and time strech, time detection etc i buy this…
Elektron does the same. Only the Octatrack has sample chop. Timestretching, chopping would kill the OP1s lifecycle.
Octatrack entered the chat:….oh my dear chid, you are quite cute…
Octatrack left the chat:…
Well, Octa knows best ❤️
Octa gone to dig another rabbit hole
Great stuff! Imagine launching a 'sampler' feature in this day and age WITHOUT a chop feature.
Elektron enters the chat...and refuses to update it's cheaper boxes
Top notch! Thanks 💙 @Shimmery.mp3
You’re welcome ☺️🙏❤️
