  • They say quitters never prosper, but Annie Duke, former professional poker player and author of Thinking in Bets and How to Decide, is living proof that quitting can be an underrated superpower. Annie recently sat down with Astro Teller, Captain of Moonshots at X, to discuss why being a great quitter can be the key to achieving long-term success.

I am fascinated by Annie dukes idea of decision scientists knowing when to quit as a matter of fact there are some magnificent parallels in military history particularly now I'm thinking about Winston Churchill at Dunkirk he told Parliament after the British army was blown off the continent that evacuation was not a victory but in the case of Dunkirk it was a victory because the British army came back within 4 years with the French and the Americans on the other hand Hitler said never retreat at Stalingrad and the German army practically closed to death so I would say that quitting getting out alive it's probably the most important thing an army can do and as a military historian I would like to write a paper talking about famous examples like when we quit Vietnam or we quit Afghanistan or we gave up a hopelessly cost some cost war this is a little bit rambling but I would love to discuss this with you and add my academic expertise which is library and information science and I have almost a PhD with the

I see that most people have attached more value to pocket Aces than to otherwise pair of aces, it's still one pair. People go down, not folding aces after the pot is built and they are likely to lose. The same thing happens when they have a lower full house. Most people can't fold the lower full house, even more difficult to fold a top full house, the only thing that beats that is four of a kind but once I saw some behavior changes come that convinced me the person had four of a kind and I folded a top full house, and was right. Probably the best hand I've ever folded.
