Meteora valley is a classic case of Show don’t tell.
This series did a lot of telling and not enough showing. Simple as that, I still liked it when it came out! But I think that’s the core problem.
Anyways! What disappointed me about Meteora Valley was the choices within Meteora Valley, between two characters, Zero and Leo. I hate how the fandom mostly chose Zero because "He's voiced by Jason" and I hated that! I wanted to see Leo's route. Honestly looking back I wish this was similar to like "Heist With Markiplier" or "In Space With Markiplier". My boi Leo deserved better... 😔💔

I think the series of Meteora Valley is more like a game, you’re playing with npcs and you have to pick what happens next. Meanwhile the live stream is more like an actual show, more lively and you get the more “Aphmau” feel in a way.
I remember when this series came out, I was so annoyed that we didn't get to spend much time with Leo because the fan base basically did their best to kill him off, lol.
You bet your butt I was MAD when everyone chose to save Zero and not Leo, even after everything that had happened to Leo.
I feel so bad, too, because I loved this series (I loved how interactive it was, that was rare at the time) and Leo was my favorite character, but... I had forgotten his name!!! I remembered Phoenix and Zero, but, I forget my poor boy, Leo.

I always think about this roleplay now and again. I always thought it was so cool having the fans make certain decisions. I haven't seen it in so long, I kinda miss it.
Oh I remember back then they switched Jason out with someone else since Jess didn’t want everyone to immediately think *omg Aaron*
I still remember "My Inner Demons", I usually didn't like Harem's but it actually worked for me, for some reason?? It was also one of (if not the only) series that Aphmau did that didn't have Aaron being the main love interest's VO! I was SO upset when she just left it on a cliffhanger! She still does stuff with the characters/actors for the series, so she hasn't forgotten it. But she just abandoned the project!
Yes! My Inner Demons was one of her best roleplays for me, having watched her since 2020. I miss it so damn much. And she still keeps contact with every old VA..
But BlueJay Studios is GONE. It will likely never return due financial issues with her making roleplays. I'm so frickin sad

Oh my god Meteroa Valley! I forgot this was a thing! Honestly I wish this role play had more of a mystery vibe with the town like you said! I was a Leo fan so seeing every choice made at the time to help Zero at Leo’s expense wasn’t great. I really wish Aphmau gave more time to just developing the characters. I feel like if the dynamics were more fleshed out it could have been such an interesting series that was different from Diaries.
I still remembered it because of PossiFox’s music video, I like the edit

Bro I remember watching this when it was coming out when I was like 11, and I was so mad that people kept picking Zero over Leo because I liked Leo way better
4:50 just wanted to add since you don't mention it here that the previous episode, the audience got to vote on which guy Phe went after when they split up to investigate The Scream. I remember being so salty that people voted Zero just because he sounded like Aaron and I liked Leo so much better lol
Also, I can' believe I never knew at the time that Meteora Valley was based on a livestream bit?! Might have to go check that out after you've talked it up so much and I already enjoyed MV. I mightve been biased from the old mcd npc dialogue format

Metora valley was kinda weird like people start shipping with that guy cuz the voice actor is Jason (her husband) so to make it stop Aphmau hired a new voice actor to stop the shipping love theme... And another weird thing is when I finished watching it. It's like a season 2 cuz there was a story how Aphmau got out of her monster realm were she live... And I want I to see what happens next

I really glad you reviewed and I do agree with your points and I hope it does become more grounded and we got to learn more about the characters in general.
i’d really like to see a video on all the mystreet seasons, your opinion on them, which ones your favorite, etc. i think it’d be a fun thing to dive into if you have the time. great video btw :D

I agree I wasn’t really the best with characters like it was literally like a Minecraft story mode and there’s no like aphmau making the decision of how the story should be like with all other role plays. Like it’s nice but your the one who is writing the story and there’s always going to be like a more happier way the story could have turn out and a more darker side. But anyways I am so glad you talked about this role play I hope you have a great day! ( even though I am a lot late)
It gives me the same vibes as some of my earlier roleplays with my friends with the half-explained plot points and ditching the narrative until like mid-way through. Even now sometimes we get too excited about a character and rush into it making the whole story line with those interactions feel well rushed. We can't really help it we make a character; They get relationship plans, they are meant to have this interaction once x thing happens and suddenly, we know everything but the other characters in the story itself know next to nothing about this character. I think that might have been what happened with this story as a whole. It felt rushed because it was rushed. All the things that could have made it different were lost as they rushed to the end making the entire thing just kind of meh.

This is probably one of the only role plays I’ve watched from her I quit once it got to convoluted I preferred her gameplays and sense I didn’t keep up with the role plays they never made much sense
