I can't imagine keeping so many dogs in that kind of condition.
For a horse that hasn't been handled alot, Sage is hanging near you like a dog. What the... a hand gesture and wild Sage just walks up.
Well, I have spent about an hour with him every day for one month. I never pressure him to be around me, I let him choose and he seems to prefer to interact most of the time.
@@FrugalOffGrid Not sure if you've started up a rescue like alot of YT'ers I watch, but you certainly have a way with building a homestead AND with caring for animals.

@@FrugalOffGrid I wanted to add to what the other person wrote about starting a rescue. I used to manage an animal sanctuary non-profit and I highly recommend you establish a non-profit which will allow you to save so much money on everything. In Nevada, it's free to create a non-profit and city hall will wall you through it.
Once you have an EIN, you can register with SO MANY businesses that will give you big discounts on top of not charging tax.
You can register with businesses in a way so that when people shop with them, the corporation donates to you (not the customer). Kroger is nationwide under a TON of brands and I used to get a check from them quarterly.
I could go on and on and on.
Only bad thing about a non-profit is that you have to have a board of directors which are usually useless pains in the butt (I'm obviously not a fan lol). But I know people who just create a two person board that is trusted family that will be place holders and understand you actually run the show.

Wow, I just found your channel. Fantastic and Thank You. This is a God Send for me. I currently live in the St.George area, have been told to 'hit the road' (meaning to move out of a condemned house I've been living in)(nothing to do with divorce or anything, a strange story all on it's own for another time) However, I've been looking for land/property, a small amount same as yourself, and now will be focusing on finding the right place. Be it Ut., Az., or Nev., this Tri-State area is my home base. I love it here, will build a small studio/living space, and live out my days here. Thank God, you have a Ton of info, your complete build from when you started, and your guidance will be just the right thing to help me get started. That dog will probably continue to show up at your property knowing he can get food and care . I hope that coyote wasn't tracking that dog for a meal sensing the dog was weak and injured.

Have you thought about raising your own worms? It's easy lot of fun doesn't cost a lot of money great for the gardens. You can also sell them.

I mind my own for sure and don't like to make waves, but the Sherriff giving that dog back to the owners in that condition is a damn shame. Poor thing.

tie some walmart sacks on your fence the flashes of light and the noise will help him learn to ignore them. Get a couple strands of fire crackers and just drop one every now and then from a distance till you can slowly do that a little closer each time. Your doing good with him keep it up.

I'm so glad I found your channel. You have all the right instincts with horses, some things can't really be taught. Horses are happiest with other equine friends but that gets expensive as they eat a lot, if you wanna get him buddies I highly recommend little burros. They are super cute and survive on air and will happily form a little herd with a horse :)

Awesome job John! Hey regarding hay be careful make sure you get hay and grass that hasn’t been treated with any herbicides. If you have good hay and grass you can use the manure from your horse for your compost also it’s good for the horse and I’m sure Sage will be happy you did.

We have a big problem with dogs in my neighborhood in rural Georgia. I was caught in a pack of 6 back in January and got bit by 2. Rabies shots are no fun when the owner didn’t want to claim him. Let’s just say I’ve gotten real friendly with the county animal control.
Glad you’re ok. We live out in the desert & people used & still do our area as a drop off for dogs. Yeah, real friendly with Sheriff & animal control . That poor dog should have been taken away 😢😢

That poor dog - all his bones protruding like that. It's really a shame that the law considers a person's dog the same as a piano or a motorcycle. Wish the dog could just live at the your place. He looks like he'll eventually starve living with his "owner."
