I got my mom a baby doll when she had alzheimer's, because everyone told me to get it for her and my mom told me to take it away.I think it stressed her out because she didn't know how to take care of it. I gave it to one of the other ladies in the facility and she really loved it. Maybe my mom was too far gone. My mom did really enjoy the robot kitty cat though, but only for about two months and then that stressed her out too, especially if I left the volume on and it meowed.
I don’t agree with all these people saying this is wrong and elder abuse. If you’ve ever worked with dementia patients, you need to be in their world, you are not going to able to “bring them back to reality” and arguing or telling them they are wrong is only going to agitate them. She is obviously not in emotional distress about this situation and no one is trying to upset her. I don’t know if I would personally post videos like this on social media but it’s endearing and provides good memories for family and friends- she may have dementia but that’s who she was in that moment and those memories should be cherished
I don't see it as being disrespectful. Betty is happy and laughing and finding joy in the moment. If that were my mother or grandmother, her happiness would be of utmost importance to me. People with dementia are often times sad, crying, and confused. I would take laughter over that any day.
The stuff that Alzheimer's/dementia victims say is hilarious sometimes. If you don't laugh about it, it makes you sick too. My mom said the goofiest things, and when we laughed, she laughed too. It was the last times she laughed before she became a mute zombie.
I'm a nurse aide, I'm guilty of indulging in their delusions with them. I'd never, and neither would any of my coworkers seed a thought like that into their minds.
@swashbuckle9856 No, not to plant a delusion BUT - if a dementia patient thinks they've had wonderful experience what a lovely place to be - don't disallusion them ! 😊
@somersetflower well yes, that's what I'm saying. If they themselves bring the belief up, then you should pander to it. It's not your place to plant a thought like them being pregnant or any other emotional affair. I've seen residents hit eachother thinking they were married partners because another staff member egged on that idea.
I know you all think its funny but it really isnt… sadly my grandmother and my mother both thought they were pregnant when they passed… dementia is sad… this woman teasing them is insensitive.
She's just making what there. She thinks the reality whatever to keep it going. My grandma had it for 15 years and thought my mom and I were sisters and you went along with it. No point trying to fix it
I agree. My mom had Alzheimer's and I would NEVER film her episodes and post them on UA-cam. I sure wouldn't want anyone doing that with me if I ever have it.
You have to laugh at life’s difficulties if you don’t your stuffed, yes dementia is horrid I’m so frightened every time I forget something as I’m late 50s and my mothers started in her early 60s. To laugh at it not the person is good, they obviously love her and she’s been a wonderful wife and Mother.
This isn't funny at all. This woman is making fun of two Alzheimer's patients and recording it for likes and attention. It's a blatant disregard for the patient's privacy. If they were cognizant of what was happening I'd bet they wouldn't want this being recorded. I hope this caretaker loses her license.
The man is Betty’s husband and he is not an Alzheimer’s patient. He was, in fact, a very involved caretaker for his wife. He and the other caretaker are just going along with and humoring Betty with her “pregnancy” rather than telling her she is really not pregnant which can actually be very upsetting to people with this disease. Furthermore, it is not the caretaker posting this video. It is Betty’s family, her husband and her son. This is their own UA-cam channel, where Betty was a beloved member of her large community of followers.
@@kristy1653 I happen to live in a place where this is affecting more than half the patient's. I've seen how it can be devastating, and embarrassing to come into a period of lucidity and see or remember how they have been acting. These people are also loved. This is the place my opinion is coming from.
@@M.J.-BoopsIt doesn’t. The caretaker herself is not giving out patient names or disclosing any personal medical information. This is the FAMILY’S UA-cam channel. They posted this video. Not the caretaker.

Mrs.Betty you are such a joy can’t wait to see your baby😂😂😂🙏🏾🥰❤️🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Oh I am so glad you still have moments that are just ridiculously hilarious. I laughed so hard at this.😂😂😂
Betty has the most contagious smile ❤
She needs to get a baby doll and see how she reacts.... I've seen it done in nursing homes

@@chellejack3480 exactly, you go with the flow and you don't argue with them. Both my parents had memory loss.
My friend is a nurse in a convelesant home and she said a lot of elderly ladies think dolls are real babies.
“He was the one that was foolin around”!😂😂😂 GET EM GIRL!
I love this family and wish they were mine, such love and devotion:)

I can also see where this would be a teaching tool for other families affected by this. I can see both sides

Love the Canadian Maple Leaf on your sweater Betty
What a lovely subject for Betty to think about, and for Bob and the kind caregiver go along with, with giggles and lots of love. ❤❤❤❤❤
I once cared for a woman who said she was pregnant by Prince Charles 😃
They have 3 kids right? She just forgot she already had the baby decades ago.
So funny, I pray you'll are this happy always. May the good LORD bless you all
Awwwwww she’s going back in time, how sweet
Reminds me of a book I read. It was called something like The Little Girl that Lived in the Radiator. It was about a woman with Alzheimer's like Betty
Hi I read this book it had me laughing and then crying I think it was one of the best books I ve ever read 📖
So cute she is
This woman is so sweet ! ❤
I love you, Betty❤. I would love to bake cookies for you. Keep smiling.
She reminds me of my mom! Love to you all!
That woman behind the camera is an instigator
Is conversations remind me of my mother when she was alive
Aww god love Betty 😂😂😂
I have witnessed nursing assistants tell patient she is pregnant and working it..stirring the pot entertainment for them with patient believing it.

What ! who got who pregnant is this for real or a joke.
It's dementia
That was easy😂
This is disrespectful adult abuse.
No, it's truly not. Betty thought she was pregnant. You aren't supposed to argue with dementia patients as it only upsets and agitates them.

Interviewer, you're Not helpful to Miss Betty! Not Funny!
I'm concerned that this is being posted, violates HIPAA I believe🤔
Not in her own house. Jesus, there's one of you in every group, isn't there, Debbie Downer?
It does violate HIPAA and should be reported. This caretaker filming should lose her license.
