Im from upstate NY and have know about saukrates since the 90's. Don't forget, unlike most of the U.S, being within a few hours drive of Toronto, Canadian Hip Hop made onto the radio and videos around here. Hip Hop heads anywhere between NYC and Buffalo knew about it. Age 23, so i guess thats why as well
i listen to hip hop on utube for half a year bad thing: now i know who lil wayne is good thing: every day i discover the best hip hop (mostly underground)
i wish it were more true but common has been on the edge since the beginning, never quite has become full mainstream he just appears on alot of popular rappers tracks cause they know how good he is. cant say the same for the public.
Drakes okay, Its like that Marc Morales album. Only time will tell how long this era will last. Just an opinion but the era of harder beats and boom bap production will be comming back to a city near you soon. I think hip hop is about to hit the reset button real soon :)
@KardiFan2000 Ya that makes sense. Just depends on how old they are or how long they've been listening I guess. I thought Sauks would be huge after Hate Runs Deep, and all the other mid 90's stuff he was putting out. But most people will never know about that, or even know to look for it. Shit only has like 10k hits on UA-cam. Being on a hit tv show has definite advantages lol.
Drake is getting his shine I haven't heard any wack tracks from him but honestly I find Shad, Donmillion and last but not least Daneo to be the best Canadian emcee's. Lyrically I haven't heard any other canadian rappers that surpass them in mic skills.
@Crazytaru1 even if there is some good mainstream (i honestly can't think of any) and you support it in turn you are also supporting the bad stuff. Thats just how it works.
@MandoGuerrero2 I agree, but I was just responding to some dude who said Drake is a better emcee than Sauks without backing it up with facts. It's like those kids who rank him in their top 10 ahead of Jay-Z...it makes no sense! I'll admit Drake has talent, but he's still just putting his foot through the door.
@KardiFan2000 The fact that Sauks has never really made it big is ridiculous, but he himself has said that Drake has all the talent in the world, and they've done shit together. Drake might not be the best CDN emcee, but he has a lot of good shit out there to go with the pop shit. I'm just glad that Drake will be able to sell millions without sounding like Soulja Boy. It's all good for T.O.
@nipthick but isn't nas mainstream, eniemem mainstream, talib kweill mainstream, common mainstream, kanye west mainstream, 2pac mainstream, biggie mainstream, basically all these rappers were mainstream before they got noticed, if they weren't how would people of know about them, because internet was just starting up then when they all first started, except kanywest
everybody watch out karl amani wailoo aka Saukrates he rented a house never paided rent for a year i had to take this guy to court to get him out of the house tryin to live in a house for free whats he think this is guvernment housing
what is real hihphop? everybody has a different viewpoint, the same stuff they rap about now they did then, these dances out now and days they had then, remember kris kross- jump, the reason certian stuff sales is because a lot of people like it wheither black/white etc..., back then they had rappers who rapped about nothing common use to rap about nothing...and all asudden he started rapping about stuff on resurrection with i use to love her,
@juicyj189 You need to get off Drake's nuts. How much of Sauks do you even listen to? Talk to real heads who came up in the 90s and they'll tell you how ill Sauks is. Saukrates has a certain depth to his lyricism which makes him stand out and he has uncanny storytelling abilities (listen to "Hate Runs Deep" and "Da Professional").
Nope nothing i typed was being racist I meant that if your a Canadian and your 22 and older and don't know Saukrates it's a shame because you should know him by that age and he is from Toronto.
@juicyj189 Sorry dude, but Saukrates is a MUCH better emcee! Drake is for the mainstream crowd and his talent on the mic is limited (even though he can sing). And call me a "hater" if you want, but the fact is, that word (hater) is used so that mainstream audiences can accept sub-par rappers, such as Drake.
@nipthick i realize you're saying that in defense of "real hip hop" but let's be completely honest for a minute. that's an unfair, overly broad generalization. you know as well as i do that there are artists who could be considered "mainstream" who've put out dope shit. common is about as "mainstream" as you can be, and he's on this track for crying out loud. no disrespect, just sayin tho. peace.
@juicyj189 You gotta understand that dudes like Drake only get by with weak punchlines and metaphors...that does NOT make him a great emcee! Or better than Saukrates for that matter!
"da" as opposed to using "the" is pretty "stupid" and that isn't slang for "cool" either. Why do people feel the need to type with an accent?? Hate when people stereotype themselves. Most Hip hop artists today are actually intelligent, well rounded modern poets that can execute a sentence to highlight these point.
love from Scotland. i love underground hip hop

Gotta have respect for artists who want to be known for their talent, not for supporting the party aspect of the mainstream.
and also he had a song not to long ago with drake and king reign called fades away, its a sick track
classic album, forgotten artist, where saukrates been?
those ill snares over Common. Dope track
all about the undergound
Drakes okay, Its like that Marc Morales album. Only time will tell how long this era will last. Just an opinion but the era of harder beats and boom bap production will be comming back to a city near you soon. I think hip hop is about to hit the reset button real soon :)

lets not sleep on K-OS
@Crazytaru1 even if there is some good mainstream (i honestly can't think of any) and you support it in turn you are also supporting the bad stuff. Thats just how it works.

kinda reminds me of guru from gangstaar.. RIP
Saukrates is Shitting On American RapperS!!!!!
people need to stop making comparisons between underground and mainstream hiphop.. they are two different things!
@nipthick but isn't nas mainstream, eniemem mainstream, talib kweill mainstream, common mainstream, kanye west mainstream, 2pac mainstream, biggie mainstream, basically all these rappers were mainstream before they got noticed, if they weren't how would people of know about them, because internet was just starting up then when they all first started, except kanywest
sounds like a pete rock beat

No shame unless your 22 and older and Canadian than that's a damn shame.
@bosman1988 see where your coming from
@joojoobomb
i agree with you, but always seeing drake in your shit tends to piss people off too haha
what is real hihphop? everybody has a different viewpoint, the same stuff they rap about now they did then, these dances out now and days they had then, remember kris kross- jump, the reason certian stuff sales is because a lot of people like it wheither black/white etc..., back then they had rappers who rapped about nothing common use to rap about nothing...and all asudden he started rapping about stuff on resurrection with i use to love her,
i like the original version alot better than the remix...but that is just my opinion

yeah and that's a REAL damn shame...

@bosman1988 i dont think his flow is like jeru's, its more like his voice, jeru's flow is very unique to everyone elses
@nipthick i realize you're saying that in defense of "real hip hop" but let's be completely honest for a minute. that's an unfair, overly broad generalization. you know as well as i do that there are artists who could be considered "mainstream" who've put out dope shit.

All better canadian rappers than drake, bieber, and many more new canadian rappers and pop stars.
theres a better mix of this somewhere...
"da" as opposed to using "the" is pretty "stupid" and that isn't slang for "cool" either. Why do people feel the need to type with an accent?? Hate when people stereotype themselves. drakes horrible, and wayne, anyone mainstream is horrible
YES! All 90s canadian rappers are better than drake, bieber, and many more new canadian rappers and pop stars.
