Here's a funny confession: I've never watched the Gilmore Girls, so when I watched this video I confused the characters with the Golden Girls. I didn't that show either, but found the idea of one of those characters being a bookworm! 😂
I would really like a list that is literally all the books Rory was reading in the series. It bugs me that this list includes things other characters read (Paris read The Iliad, Rory's grandmother read The Lovely Bones, etc.), things that were just mentioned, and movies referred to in the series that just happen to also be books (The Graduate, Babe, The Yearling, etc.).
Yes, most of the books I saw seemed to be more of that nature. I was surprised because I thought the list would be just her books. Apparently the new total is 500, but that seems to just be getting silly. If we count Shakespeare we reference him all the time without even realizing it!
I got 72 books, 72%. My bookclub has bullied me into finally watching the Gilmore Girls, so I will make a list of all the books she actually read. I will leave out all the books read by others, and the movie references that have corresponding books. I can make my own list challenge when I'm done.
I went through this list last year and thought, 'I would never read that.' 'Ugh, I wouldn't read that book either.' LOL It is fun to see all the books in one place though and her eclectic taste. 👍👍
This was fun! Growing up, I thought Rory’s booklist was the ULTIMATE, but going through the quiz, there was a lot of children’s books and a lot of books I wouldn’t want to read, honestly. I read a few Stephen King and do not care for his writing, and there was quite a few of them on there. Also some second wave feminist works, which I do not care for. There were some that seemed intriguing that I would like to add to my TBR list, but only a few. Like you said, there’s a good number of classics, but it wasn’t super well-rounded. It felt more like a room of script writers all put in the show the books they read in school 😂
I will just mark off when I read one of the books she has read. Babe used to make me cry, especially when the farmer sings to Babe, and I didn't know it was a book until I looked at this list.
Thanks! If you're not put off by longer books then I think it's a great place to start. Most people are put of by the multiple subplots and perspectives that Dickens has. David has limited subplots and is first person. Another good, but shorter, choice is Great Expectations, but I like David better.
I took the challenge with you and was surprised at how few I'd read (I got 25%.) It is really eclectic, but I like that, and I do want to get to many of them that I haven't read. 🙃
Fun! All things considered, I think that's great. It's definitely a very eclectic mix and apparently includes books that were just mentioned on the show by other people.
I just watched the entire Gilmore Girls show on Netflix within the past 4 months, and I don't recall her reading many books; she may have mentioned them, but she wasn't reading on camera. So I'd like to know how the number 339 was reached. I would've noticed all those books!
Right! I've since gotten a lot of feedback that the list includes books she read on the show, that other people mentioned or read. It seems suspect to say it's her list.
Not bad, Mary! It was fun. There are some really obscure books on there and some that are definitely dated in popularity (What Color is Your Parachute). So, that's an important factor too.
Most of what Rory read was for school, or related recommended reading. Also, like you said, that list includes all the books ever mentioned on the show. (Example: Loralei read the Motley Crue book.) With that said, I got 4%. This is fine for me because I am not a classics reader. This was fun. I was excited to see how you would score!
What a fun video. I did the test. Shamed. Am I even a reader? There are quite a few which I own and will get to eventually. I’m not American so maybe that’s the excuse for my poor result 😂
😂 I know I’ve maybe read a handful of the books on the list. Shame on me. I perused through the list and it’s not as diverse as I expected it to be. Like you said, it’s western central.
I had to read Beowulf in a lit class an I am sure I got on the teachers bad side as I was the only one who was brave enough to say they hated it 😂. He remembered my name because of that comment...lol. Surprisingly I did pass the class. 🤓 I think I would fail this challenge.
The only time I enjoyed Beowulf was in college. The teacher learned how to speak Old English well enough that he could read it to us. So much better read aloud. Saying that makes me thing I might reread it via audiobook.
It doesnt seem like a list of book read by one person because … its not! Lovely bones for example was mentioned by her grandmother. So were some travel books..
That makes a lot more sense of the list. Strange that it would just include all sorts of books from the show. I think someone mentioned they're going to try and make a list just of the books she read. I'm sure that will be much shorter.

lol. That is funny! Thanks for sharing. I'll now forever be picturing one of them with their nose in a book.

My score is at the 94% percentile, 89 books. I'm old and have been reading voraciously for about 60 years. It keeps me sane. Thanks for the link.
That's amazing! A life well read!

ooo yes! Let me know and I'll do an update to the video of it. I'm really surprised no one's made that list yet! Fun times and good job!
I went through this list last year and thought, 'I would never read that.' 'Ugh, I wouldn't read that book either.' LOL It is fun to see all the books in one place though and her eclectic taste. 👍👍
I agree. And, yup, there are some odd books on there that I'll never read.

lol. Funny you say that, because that's what I was thinking!

I didn't know either! I absolutely love that movie. I'm determined to find a copy of the book!
Yes, you made it. 🎉 You are cool!!!❤
Should i start my journey with Dickens with David Copperfield? I read only Christmas Carol.

7% here 😶 I have read 24 & actually own 4 I plan to read this year.
Thanks Nicole, this was fun.

"We all know I've read David Copperfield by now. " i laughed 😂
lol
Love the Rory Gilmore challenge. I did the test and got 53. I do own some others but have yet to read them.
Nice! It is a fun challenge for sure. I know over the years my number will go up, but I'll never get to 100%.

Great insight! And let us never forget Rory's not real and by default we've all read more than she has. 😂
@@noteworthyfiction Ha! Yes, that is a great point!

lol. No shame. I agree that it's very western cannon and very American lit heavy. Excuse accepted!
😂 I know I’ve maybe read a handful of the books on the list. Shame on me.

Out of all the covers for David Cooperfield, why that one 😭
Right!?! It's an insult to all us Davy lovers.

25/339 🫣
lol. Not bad. It's a place to start.
@@noteworthyfiction I like classics but there is definitely a lot of books on this list I would never be interested in reading.
@@netogrof I agree.
