Like I said I prefer Healdsburg in Sonoma - you could base yourself there and explore Sonoma and Napa, they are right next to each other. But if you are set on Napa then Calistoga is a good bet.

Why would you not recommend Napa? I was under the impression that there are some amazing restaurants and tasting rooms in downtown. Azur & No Love Lost to mention a couple.

well that was one of my very early vids, so maybe I could have been clearer... I just like Sonoma better, not trying to hate on Napa... though I do think that Yountville in particular is overrun with tourists and overpriced. I do make hotel recs in Napa and I know I said nice things about Calistoga and a few other places in Napa. My vid about most architectural wineries is also mostly Nap wineries. Peace

I know this isn't the purpose of your channel, but the towns of Napa and Santa Rosa should be left for the lower-cost travelers. You'll find a lot cheaper hotel options in either if your primary goal its to explore the area and you're not concerned with where you're sleeping as much. Santa Rosa especially is very "Centrally Located" when it comes to exploring wineries, especially if you're going off the Napa-Valley-Centric "beaten path". While the towns themselves are decidedly *not swanky*, they're still in excellent locations and actually where the majority of Wine Country's workers live.

Why skip Napa and Santa Rosa?

IMO Napa is overpriced and touristy. Just my take

Don't skip Santa Rosa there are plenty of good wineries and Santa Rosa has railroad square which is very cute and a lot of good jobs really good restaurants Snoopy's museum the creator of Snoopy was from Santa Rosa there's a park called spring lake that goes to Annadel which is beautiful and east Santa Rosa turns into Kenwood witch is in Sonoma valley which has great wineries and Kenwood has I think the most exciting barrel tasting events for the year

The wineries in Napa and Sonoma are just too expensive now- it just isn't worth it.

They are. I'm working on wineries of Washington and Oregon... much more reasonable prices

do you mind letting me know which was the hotel you would avoid in Yountville? We are looking at them and worried i might chose the one you thought was overpriced

    • @SwankGuide

Sure - it was the Estate.... I don't like to do negative videos and just complain - but I do want to help people avoid the mistakes I made - super sleek lobby and pool - but behind that is badly repurposed 80s codos w a very cheap feel. Enjoy your trip
