    Excellent review - it really shows how far we've come over the last 20 years or so - back then even suggesting that a bike could be a replacement for a car would be met with laughter and scorn. Now the love affair with motorised transport is almost locked at the "we need to talk" stage, especially with traffic jams!

    A bike trailer to go with the bike would be great for tradesmen. Youth parking is a nightmare in large cities a trailer you could stand on its end and lock Would be a brilliant idea

    Mate apart from the goodies. Could you review on real life situations as below :
    Whats the service and maintenance schedule and costs ?
    Ownership costs ?
    Will it work in heavy rain and can it stand heavy rain in parking lots ?
    How easy to get replacement parts and costs of spares ?
    What are the common real life problems with the bike ? Is it too big to be stored in tight parking spaces in retail stores ?
    What are the security features to safeguard it from being stolen?
    Whats the warranty like and can anyone fix/service ?

      S00 LX rider here, it's nice and stable descending, heavy, so you want to keep it under control, but the braking is responsive and powerful (Magura 180mm hydraulic disc brakes). Make sure to mind service intervals and bed in new brake pads.

    We are tandemers who want to fulltime replace our car. We ride a bike friday which is buttery smooth but we need a 2nd tandem. Looking at the co-motions periscope, found a bike shop that is willing to work with ordering it and custom some parts (e-assist, rear axle needs to be beefier, handlebars need to be more cruiser-like .. we want our co-motion to be touring-ready). Any suggestions on tandem bikes that can carry both people and cargo? We ride heavy, REALLY heavy (100 lbs+) and won't have it any other way.

    why is this bike almost 4 times more than radwaggon or euronau. Are all the parts on this bike 4 times better? Hell its even more expensive than top of the line commuter carbon ebike like Trek or cayon or canondale

    • @BicyclingMag
      @BicyclingMag  3 роки тому +4

      Great question! A lot of that price comes down to the build and capability. The Tern GSD has almost three times the range of the RadWagon 4, due to the dual batteries, and an extra 90 lbs of carrying capacity at 440 pounds. It's also foldable (to a point), which makes it able to be stored in smaller spaces than the RadWagon, which may be valuable to some users. Other branded components like the Bosch Cargo line motor system, Gates carbon belt drive, Rohloff geared hub, SunTour Fork and integrated lock also add up to it being a more expensive build.

    • @daisydela
      @daisydela 2 роки тому +3

      The Radwagen is specifically marketed to cheap buyers. It has a hub drive motor, which sucks and has very little torque for climbing or carrying heavy loads. Trust me, hub drive motors are terrible for modern e-bikes. I built up my first one in 2010, and burned out two motors on my Yuba cargo bike. Mid drive has much more torque for practical use. I converted to mid drive and can now climb any hill carrying my dog and 10-bags of groceries. The Radwagen only really works for flat ground.

    • @difflocktwo
      @difflocktwo 2 роки тому +3

      @@daisydela Mid drive sucks. Gearless hub drive is the way to go.
      Gearless hub drive wins every time because you get rid of almost all maintenance when using one. No brake maintenance and no drivetrain maintenance.
      My hub motor has been abused for 10 years now and it's still going strong. It's the bike around the hub motor that is falling apart and yet the motor keeps going.
      My hub motor has enough torque to flip you off your bike and it hasn't melted in 10s of thousands of commuter miles and many hundreds of ~50kg trailer hauling miles.
      The bub motor is just a cheapy $100 Chinese hub motor.

    • @Wildbikeslife
      @Wildbikeslife 3 роки тому +2

      I think a gsd r14 might last six times as long or get used six times as much... But as with bikes in general, the best e-cargo bike is the e-cargo bike you've got! Comparing S10 to the Radwagon is much more apples to apples though, and you've gotta hand it to RAD for nailing their price point and marketing and activating a huge segment of latent ebikers.

    • @daisydela
      @daisydela 2 роки тому +4

      The Radwagen uses a hub drive motor and is marketed for buyers in a budget who won’t really use them for hills. Hub drive motors have very little torque. The Radwagen is great is you only ride in flat areas. Terrible is you live in hilly areas or want to carrry heavy loads. With a mid-drive I can literally climb a mountain with my dog and 10-bags of groceries. It’s hilarious the crazy loads I can carry uphill.

      America has a car problem lol. Lacking funds for public transport and a ton of cheap used cars, which is great for low income families don't get me wrong but going by example from other countries most people would probably be happier with out a car if the roads and other means of transport were not working against that happening

      This bike is actually great in the rain! Comes with full fenders and handles quite well in the wet. You're right, though, it takes a bit of determination to bike everywhere. Some of us quite prefer biking whenever possible. The appeal of such a bike is that it will keep me out of the car. I really don't like driving. What can I say! I don't think I'm alone in that.
