  • I've been using the Tern GSD e-cargo bike for a while now and it's been great. It has so many features that make it perfect for camping, touring, or commuting. In this video I show you how I used the Tern GSD e-cargo bike for a weekend of camping.

    I’m an over packer so those bags are the perfect size 🙂. I like bike touring/packing that allows for stopping and gazing and relaxing 😎. Your trip was a good example of a “chill” ride, apart from the racing back home for the football game 😜. Great video!

      The bags are huge, I have the front rack for the bike, and could have put cargo boxes on the back 😃 We could have brought chairs if we had any, which would have been nice. Touring on the Brompton will require a VERY different packing strategy!

    That looks really fun. Great roads for the UK. I kind of forgot we do have good places to cycle here. And the GSD and road bike combination works great as well. E-bikes are endlessly useful and versatile. Maybe you’ll convince some more people of that with this video.
    And it’s funny how we do act like we live in a big country. It’s good to get a reality check from a Canadian that we’re never that far from civilisation no matter where you go. Especially in England where we’re really densely populated.

      Hopefully people will at least have an idea of what's possible with bikes. When ever I'm out test riding cargo bikes I get a lot of questions, hopefully in a few years they will be considered normal. Our neighbours have 2 cars, one works and one stays home with their little boy, they could easily replace their second car with an e-bike.
      The distances between things here is so different. Moving to Bristol from London has taught me I'd be fine living in a small town or village in the UK becasue nothing (not even toilet paper!) is really that far away, even on a bike. What amazes me here though is how quickly the landscape changes.

      @@OneLessCar Yeah having 2 cars in a small country especially is an absurd concept. We used to do that but the driveway has been empty for a year now. Still not sure if neighbours or passers by have figured it out by now. They might think that every time they look, the car is out somewhere :) But it would be great if it made them consider their 2-car situations. Both neighbours on either side are retired couples with 2 cars. Makes zero sense.

    Bicycles, ebikes and escooters are great options for last mile, short distance travel.
    Cities need to do more to encourage people to ride bicycles by providing safe, protected bike lanes and trails. Every adult and child should own a bicycle and ride it regularly. Bicycles are healthy exercise and fossil fuels free transportation. Electric bicycles are bringing many older adults back to cycling. Ride to work, ride to school or ride for fun. Cargo ebikes are great for local deliveries.

      I'm in the market for a first e-bike depending on what's available in a future proof repairable and upgradeable workhorse that will accommodate someone 6'7.
      Apart from that, the biggest deterrent that is discouraging more people using bikes and e-bikes is not lack of infrastructure, it is fear of theft.
      You can park a £70,000 Tesla outside of a supermarket in a dodgy area all day every day and expect it to still be there when you return.
      Not many people will park up a £2,000 bike or e-bike in the same car park even with really good locks without having a knot in their guts every minute they're away from it. Or even a £1,000 bike.
      Until that's sorted out, only a minority will use these wonderful and liberating machines to their full potential instead of using car's or other public transport.
      I wish it were not so.

      @@tconnolly9820 GPS trackers are small and can be hidden on an Ebike and tracked with a phone app. You just need to be able to ID the bike and track it to a location for Police.
      With many ebikes costing over $1000 it is an expensive theft. Hide it in the seat or inside the tire or inside the bell ringer. Also businesses need to provide more safe protected parking spaces for bicycles with security cameras.

      @@KJSvitko Basically every bike needs to be made financially unviable to be stolen by having every bike (and individual hi value parts and batteries etc) mandatorily registered and engraved with a unique and unremoveable registration at the point of purchase.
      If it can't be sold, it's not worth stealing for a professional thief.
      Of course that won't stop the vandals but at least registration means it will be returned to the owner whenever it's recovered.
      I could go in with details but I find most people don't care anyway.

    I just got a Tern Quick Haul D8, which looks nearly identical to your GSD. It only has one battery and there's more space between the two top tubes for a small frame bag. I purchased the same panniers you have. Otherwise, I'm curious what the differences are. Great video! I hope to go on another tour before long and have been curious about the practicality of doing it on an e-bike like this.

    Great video! It was interesting seeing what you packed for the trip. Do you have any advice on how/where to safely pack your fuel for your stove? I am hopefully going to be doing my first bikepacking trip this summer and will be be bringing some fuel. A small can like you had. And I will be using panniers on my gravel bike.

    • @OneLessCar
      @OneLessCar  3 роки тому +2

      Sounds like a great set up 👍 the canisters like in this video are great so easy to use and travel with. You can just pop them in your bag (try not to lose the valve cover). You can also put it inside your pot if it's big enough but I personally prefer to keep my stove in the pot to keep it safe. The type of gas canister that is for petrol that can be refilled is usually kept outside of bags. A lot of the time in a 3 water bottle holder on the underside of the bike frame.

    • @adventureswithjosie
      @adventureswithjosie 3 роки тому

      @@OneLessCar Thanks for all the information! Yes I had the same idea, to put the stove in the pot to keep it safe. That's good to know that these types of canisters are fairly safe to travel with. Transporting fuel is what I've been most concerned about.
