I have suffered with a missing kitchen drawer for OVER a year. I couldn’t find a replacement and it was so busted I could not fix it. Then I found this video. Thank you so much!!!
thank you! had this exact same thing happen to me. Watched this video, went to Home Depot, bought some wood for $3 and had them cut it to size, came home and did almost these exact same steps and got a working drawer again!
My tenants just handed me their drawer. These cabinets are chintzy but fixable. Can’t believe your video is exactly what I needed! I knew it’s fixable but was clueless how to go about it. Thank you!
Super video. I have been buying damaged new cabinets from Lowes...the price is like $30 for a $270 cabinet (new) and there is assorted damage but I knew with some fresh wood and ingenuity this could be fixed. Thanks, one of the drawers to a cabinet fell off my truck and will need this very fix.
After 36 years of using a chest drawer, finally broke, but my Mom refused to purchase a new chest even I wanted to pay for it. I am going to try fixing it like you. Hope it works beautifully like your sister’s. Thank you for your video!
I’m ridiculously impressed with the speed precision and concise instructions! This isn’t quite the type of repair video for a drawer I was looking for, nor does it specifically help. I’m going to check your channel for things like this though and you’ve more than earned a new subscriber from me. :) keep up the awesome man!
That was very helpful. My drawer is built a little different than the one you were working on but the fix is pretty much the same. Thanks for posting this!
Why didn’t I think of this?! Been faffing about trying to find someone that sells custom size drawer box backs! This is SO easy to do, and tidy! Cheers
I didn't know what I was going to do until I watched your video. The last person living in my place used glue and that didn't work. It was also a big hassle to remove the glue. Thanks to you my drawer front will never fall off again! Thank you so much!
Thank you! Just repaired this morning one of my top-drawers, but I was not sure if it is a permanent solution, looking on UA-cam for ideas. Mine did not have this extra board inside ->> but now it does!!! I put additional a small L-bracket in each corner, that should make the repair last forever. And, you are right: NO SLAMMING! lol
Thank you so much for the video. It was super helpful and showed exactly what I need to do. I had thought I was gonna have to buy a new drawer after our toddler broke our drawer. You just save me $50! Wahoo!
Thanks for this. I was going to take the drawer to a shop where they sell cabinetry and surely they would've sold me a new one that wouldn't have fit and I'd have had to drive back and forth to finally get it straight. My only thought is with such a heavily used drawer and heavy at that when full of silverware, I was thinking of even adding an extra L bracket on the insides of each front corner and maybe even rear two corner of the drawers. I hate paying a lot of money when I can "fix" it myself! Thanks Adam!
I flip furniture and guaranteed, the pieces I pick up have broken drawers - every.single.time 🤦♀️ So this video is brilliant - thanks so much for sharing your “how-to’s”.
Adam, you got me going.. I checked several other drawers and found one with just a little wobble of the front. It does not have the extra board inside and is fairly higher). I took a ('real' wooden) 3/4 x 3/4", painted it and put a short one - matching the hight of the drawer and adding some glue - in each corner and the long one in the front bottom corner. Then screwed for the short sides 4 screws (alternating 1 from the inside and 1 from the outside), for the long part at the bottom 5 screws (alt. 3 from the inside and 2 from the outside. That should do the trick, it feels VERY strong. That's the way I most likely go from now on.
I had this happen to me on two drawers because I believe when we had extreme cold weather the furnace was running a lot and the humidity was very low and very dry inside and the front of the drawers came apart with very little effort when it happened. Our wide main drawer had some silverware in it but our smaller drawer hardly had anything in it. I believe dry conditions in the house can be a factor drying out the particle board.
There not much pride in craftsmanship and/or affordable quality products in the USA like we should have. It isn't to protect the trees, it's so companies can make a larger Profit Margin. I had hand made customs cabinets in my renovations - pleased I did that -
Bought house drawers were too heavy for lasting back and forth. I have drawers like this one you did and wondered about the metal drawer slides I bought instead of the cheaper ones that bent like yours. Are they too heavy for drawer frame. I want to use because you don’t have to attach to back but I will have to place blocks of wood on sides? Before I do this is it workable?? Thank you. you made it look easy, hope it is.
Adam DIY you are right in saying about why drawer breaks. The correction and repair was excellent. but my drawer was having a bottom which was sliding in the wood groove....thin white sheet is inserted in groove...Question is how to make the groove.in new wood which you installed to give strenght to drawer. In new video bottom should be thin inserted in groove. ..
As a new landlord I want to say that I very much respect your handling of that situation. I would much rather have a tenant cop to breaking something and then taking steps to repair it properly rather than trying to just hide it, in the hopes that it would slip past my attention and go unnoticed. NOTHING makes a property owner madder than finding some extremely sketchy repair attempted on something the tenant broke and having no way to recoup their loss after the fact. That’s one major reason most landlords are having to require numerous security deposits these days. Once bitten, twice shy.
My drawer boxes are crap but the fronts are ok but appeared to be glued on. have you run across before any experience withthe replacement birch drawer boxes?
FYI when drilling the screws holes down for the thicker pine wood when using the old piece to see how much to go down you can wrap a piece of masking or painting tape which is what I used cause that's what I had lying around so you don't drill to deep.
Ok, around 3:35 you talk about what to do if the drawer ripped and how you can just cut it to make a new straight edge. The face of my kitchen drawer broke off and all the sides are mangled from all the staples that it had in it and the tracking comes all the way to where the face is (should be). What do I do about that? I don't really want to flip it around but would that be the better option?
lmlekush2011 I had the same issue with another drawer I worked on. Don't worry that the tracks are now going to be a little longer. They can just overhang on the back of the drawer. You will need to make sure that you still use all the screws to reattach the track to the drawer.
Well done, thank you! Any tips on how to repair a similarly constructed particle board drawer that has joints at the drawer face? I'm thinking the drawer might just need to be rebuilt, but short of that any advice would be helpful.
Omg duhhhhhhhh turn the drawer around SMH i can't believe I didn't figure that out thanks for this I have been suffering with a broken drawer for months
I have a problem, how do you change the depth of a drawer from thin to deeper? It's only about 2 inches high, not high enough to put books in. How can you reconstruct it?
I have the same drawer problem but i can't get the front panel off the piece that needs to be replaced. i think it was glued on. Is there a way to remove it safely without harming the panel?
i removed the two screws but the drawer front seems to be glued to box. I tried a Heat Gun and a pry tool but it didn't budge.. Any Tips or ideas. These drawers are about 30 yrs old

Same! I have two drawers needing repair from a tenant. Funny how the ones in my house don’t have this issue 🤣.
@@LovingLyfeAlwayz. I know 😢. What the sam do these people do to make such a mess!!

Your tip about switching the drawer around worked like a charm. Thank you for this!
Thank you for making a video that's so useful even 8 years after

Great job, I’m aware of how to make drawer boxes but not everyone is. Thanks for those people.
Great demonstration and work arounds for when the drawer sides r ruined... you saved me hours of tinkering and thinking

Awesome tutorial! I wasn't sure if there was a video on this. Boom... perfect!
Flipping the drawer tip is ingenious!
One of the best how to fox videos I’ve watched!
Better than before it broke - for sure! Thank you for sharing!

Thank you, Adam. You really are an excellent teacher!

Thank you, Sir. Subscribing now. Learned a lot of cool stuff that I definitley would not have thought of.
You do nice job explaining, and offering practical, doable suggestions. Thank you!

Thank you for the video! My son shut the drawer really hard and broke the drawer front off just like that!

@2:42 damn dude. You strike about like lighting. Never hit the same spot twice. 😂😂

Wish I had paid more attention in Industrial arts class in jr. high school.😮
what size counter sink bit did you use?
Thank you. This video avoided a trip to the shop.
My drawer boxes are crap but the fronts are ok but appeared to be glued on. have you run across before any experience withthe replacement birch drawer boxes?
A nice simple and affordable fix.
Excellent, you did it. Great job 😂
So on the sides of the drawyer why do you drill a hole furst doesnt that make the screw not hold as well?
Thank you! Another great video.

My husband was so pissed at me because he was going to have to fix a drawer I didn't even realize I broke. Thanks so much. I'm on it.
Life saver!! Thanks for the video!!
I have the same drawer problem but i can't get the front panel off the piece that needs to be replaced. i think it was glued on. Is there a way to remove it safely without harming the panel?
Good idea with the countersink bit
Thanks for dumbing this one down for me. What I thought was going to be an ordeal, turned out to be a piece of cake...
Good job!
Thank you so much
thanks for the video, very informative. we had to do the same thing with a dresser we got from walmart.
Hardware used:
1.5" wood screws
When drilling using the face drill you can use a piece of tape for depth.
Great video! helped alot!
Thank U just saved me from having to over spend. Simple fix
Well done, thank you for posting this!
som would say you need seal that raw pine..as it is a kitchen...things get wet and dirty.......that is why the chip board has a glossy white finish.
Other than thank thanks so much you saved me a lot of money
Thanks! My 5 year old broke mine off!
Mine has no smaller wood like this and it's screwed like itself
How ca we fix t

Thank you.. very helpful..
Awesome video
i removed the two screws but the drawer front seems to be glued to box. I tried a Heat Gun and a pry tool but it didn't budge.. Any Tips or ideas. These drawers are about 30 yrs old
I had that issue and had to use a chisel to get the particle board off the solid wood draw front.
What size countersink bit
My toxic trait is thinking I can actually do this all by myself 😂
Thanks for the video! Another reason the drawer fronts break off... kids think drawer knobs are convenient steps to reach their snacks!
Sounds like my house!
That's exactly what happened to us. Except our drawers are plastic inside. 😬
Good job
Cheers for hour advice
tnku ! Quick fix !
