    I have suffered with a missing kitchen drawer for OVER a year. I couldn’t find a replacement and it was so busted I could not fix it. Then I found this video. Thank you so much!!!

    thank you! had this exact same thing happen to me. Watched this video, went to Home Depot, bought some wood for $3 and had them cut it to size, came home and did almost these exact same steps and got a working drawer again!

    Super video. I have been buying damaged new cabinets from Lowes...the price is like $30 for a $270 cabinet (new) and there is assorted damage but I knew with some fresh wood and ingenuity this could be fixed. Thanks, one of the drawers to a cabinet fell off my truck and will need this very fix.

    This isn’t quite the type of repair video for a drawer I was looking for, nor does it specifically help.

    I didn't know what I was going to do until I watched your video. The last person living in my place used glue and that didn't work. It was also a big hassle to remove the glue.
    Thanks to you my drawer front will never fall off again! Thank you so much!

    Thank you! Just repaired this morning one of my top-drawers, but I was not sure if it is a permanent solution, looking on UA-cam for ideas. Mine did not have this extra board inside ->> but now it does!!! I put additional a small L-bracket in each corner, that should make the repair last forever. And, you are right: NO SLAMMING! lol

    Thanks for this. I was going to take the drawer to a shop where they sell cabinetry and surely they would've sold me a new one that wouldn't have fit and I'd have had to drive back and forth to finally get it straight. My only thought is with such a heavily used drawer and heavy at that when full of silverware, I was thinking of even adding an extra L bracket on the insides of each front corner and maybe even rear two corner of the drawers. I hate paying a lot of money when I can "fix" it myself! Thanks Adam!

    Adam, you got me going.. I checked several other drawers and found one with just a little wobble of the front. It does not have the extra board inside and is fairly higher). I took a ('real' wooden) 3/4 x 3/4", painted it and put a short one - matching the hight of the drawer and adding some glue - in each corner and the long one in the front bottom corner. Then screwed for the short sides 4 screws (alternating 1 from the inside and 1 from the outside), for the long part at the bottom 5 screws (alt. 3 from the inside and 2 from the outside. That should do the trick, it feels VERY strong. That's the way I most likely go from now on.

    I had this happen to me on two drawers because I believe when we had extreme cold weather the furnace was running a lot and the humidity was very low and very dry inside and the front of the drawers came apart with very little effort when it happened. Our wide main drawer had some silverware in it but our smaller drawer hardly had anything in it. I believe dry conditions in the house can be a factor drying out the particle board.

    Bought house drawers were too heavy for lasting back and forth. I have drawers like this one you did and wondered about the metal drawer slides I bought instead of the cheaper ones that bent like yours. Are they too heavy for drawer frame. I want to use because you don’t have to attach to back but I will have to place blocks of wood on sides? Before I do this is it workable?? Thank you. you made it look easy, hope it is.

    Adam DIY you are right in saying about why drawer breaks. The correction and repair was excellent. but my drawer was having a bottom which was sliding in the wood groove....thin white sheet is inserted in groove...Question is how to make the groove.in new wood which you installed to give strenght to drawer. In new video bottom should be thin inserted in groove. ..

      As a new landlord I want to say that I very much respect your handling of that situation. I would much rather have a tenant cop to breaking something and then taking steps to repair it properly rather than trying to just hide it, in the hopes that it would slip past my attention and go unnoticed. NOTHING makes a property owner madder than finding some extremely sketchy repair attempted on something the tenant broke and having no way to recoup their loss after the fact. That’s one major reason most landlords are having to require numerous security deposits these days. Once bitten, twice shy.

    FYI when drilling the screws holes down for the thicker pine wood when using the old piece to see how much to go down you can wrap a piece of masking or painting tape which is what I used cause that's what I had lying around so you don't drill to deep.

    Ok, around 3:35 you talk about what to do if the drawer ripped and how you can just cut it to make a new straight edge. The face of my kitchen drawer broke off and all the sides are mangled from all the staples that it had in it and the tracking comes all the way to where the face is (should be). What do I do about that? I don't really want to flip it around but would that be the better option?

    • @AdamDIY
      @AdamDIY  9 років тому

      lmlekush2011 I had the same issue with another drawer I worked on. Don't worry that the tracks are now going to be a little longer. They can just overhang on the back of the drawer. You will need to make sure that you still use all the screws to reattach the track to the drawer.
