When I first used Inkscape's fill tool and saw that it left gaps even in areas that were neatly bounded only by paths, I kind of dismissed it as a janky tool and didn't use it again. I understand now that it has other applications, it was just jarring that it didn't do the one thing I expected it to do.
I did the same as you, since I mainly used vector graphics the tool didn't seem to work very well so I didn't use it again. That is until someone asked me how to add a border to a PNG image and I didn't have a good answer. 👍
After watching two videos previous to yours, I was sick of them going all around the house before getting to the point. Thank you for making an easy-to-follow guide on the mistakes I was making.
I love your channel! Your explanations are so clear and easy to understand. Many thanks, you are shedding light on what for me used to be a dark art. L & S from me!
If it works based on screen resolution and at the same time it complained that your shape was not completely on the screen then this seems to be a conflicting situation. You might want to zoom in so that the fill works "better" but you can't because the object is now off of the screen.

Yep, one of those anoying little querks, just means you have to make a few fine adjustments to your path.
