I was a student of his the last two years he taught and he was one of the best people whom I have ever met. I often think about him even to this day. Rest In Peace, Randy, you are still missed.
That must have been so cool :) I wish I could see more of his talks and things but I think I have seen all the ones there are on UA-cam. He has been a big inspiration to me.
RIP Randy. 15 years later I came across your lecture in my psychology textbook and watched this video. You really lived and inspired many with your perception of life and time management. Life is a beautiful life and death is a painful truth, RIP Randy. Many unborn generations will continue to take inspiration from this lecture
It a pity that he passed away, he really had a great perspective on life. Some people are born inspirational people and he is one of them to his wife and children , Your partner/ father has given me a new perspective on life . Thank You for sharing this with Us.
Need to do something about below lessons by Randy Pausch! 1. Goals, Priorities, and Planning: - "Why am I doing this? What is the goal? Why will I succeed? What happens if I chose not to do it? Doing things right vs. doing the right things 100 things to do in my life" 2. Covey’s four-quadrant TODO: - do tasks in the order of (1) important & due soon (2) important & not due soon (3) due soon & not important (4) not due soon & not important 3. Planning: "Failing to plan is planning to fail Plan Each Day, Each Week, Each Semester You can always change your plan, but only once you have one!" 4. Avoiding Procrastination - "Doing things at the last minute is much more expensive than just before the last minute Deadlines are really important: establish them yourself!" 5. Inspiration: - “If you can dream it, you can do it” -- Walt Disney
This was the best time spent on youtube ever. I stayed up late watching this video but I surely learned a lot. Professor Randy Pausch was amazing. His last line "Time is all we have, and you may find one day, you have less than you think" brought me to tears. Thank you!
Actually, there were four books recommended in the lecture: One Minute Manger - Blanchard 7 Habits of Highly effective people - Covey Time Management for Teachers, Cathy Collins, 1987 Career Track Seminar: Taking control of Your Work Day 1990
Surprising amount of negativity in these comments. Would like to see you would react when you found out you had pancreatic cancer. This man is a tremendous demonstration of a courageous human being.
I watched this way back in 2009... here we are in 2017 and I'm amazed at how much of this I remember, and I actually implemented, but was unable to recall the source for.... Thank you for the gift, Randy.... You've left this world, a better place... and we are all accomplishing more good in the world, because of what you put together for your kids. #TheSecondHeadFake
Just finished reading Randy Pausch's book and am familiar with the time management principles he shared. I saw his Last Lecture video first, then read his book, then viewed this video. This man has shared some very inspirational tips for living life to it's fullest. This is a great video to share with your family and with those graduating and going out into the real world.
This was a spectacular man. This is how to live when you were told your time ran out and the clock is ticking. -This- man was an example for all of us.
This was something I was required to do. I dreaded it. Once I watched it, it was something I was ENJOYING. Please watch this video. I know it's long, but it could very well change your life.
I watch this talk every year-so much wisdom, a beautiful expression of humanity, and with a clear sense of why we do anything. When he describes his creative time as 10pm - midnight, he says, "it's like this creative burst right before the end." There is so much in the pause that follows. I feel, in that moment and in this talk, that I am witnessing a human in the midst of pure awareness and experience. Fully alive
Here is another tip I heard from a friend. The 2 min rule! If there is something you can finish in 2 mins, do it RIGHT NOW! For e.g: taking an appointment, responding to an email, making a bill payment online, registering for a class online etc.
Wow, He was really good. At the end of this lecture, he almost cries. Is really hard to know that your life will end around five months. A brave and strong man.
Love and grace to you Jai and your children, as well as the rest of Randy's family and friends. What a wonderful legacy he has left you and the rest of us who have been touched by his words. Thank you for sharing him.
I think EVERY high school student should watch this...then again in college. Between the to do list, the time clock, the filing system....if it's worth your time, then it's worth your time!!! very insigtful! Thank you Randy!
I dont know how to express my respectfulness, but Life needs one like Randy Pausch. I hope more and more Speech made by Professors to be uploaded publicly. Knowledge will not care about copyright and Value will be shared for everyone....
Of course there's something new - it's the fact that lots of people actually LISTEN to him. Even if the ideas or topics of his lectures are typical, it's always good to have a reminder on these kind of things.
Awesome video almost 14 years after it was first broadcast. Many of these thoughts and ideas are so true even today, and simple tools to save time. Thank you, Randy Pausch.
I really want to say thank you to Professor Randy, for given such wonderful talk although I know that he have unfortunately left the world most likely 15 years before this message. I learnt a lot of thinks from this video from task scheduling, email management to life scheduling. In the last 10 years, I have revisited this video manage time and I still learning something new everytime. Thank you very much!
An amazing and inspirational man. Every time I watch this lecture I learn more than the last time. Wonderful feedback from people I have referred to here - they all love him. If I could, I would thank him profusely for sharing so much with us - these lectures are such a wonderful present and legacy from him.
When Professor Randy speak nobody can help themselves to do not listen to him... He is so interesting and so professional speaker I'd ever know.. Such a great lecture about time management. I've learned a lot...
Love the irony. Randy Pausch real reason for living wasn't computers and technology, it was these speeches that touch the lives of millions of people. And the irony is that the lectures were done at the last moment. Thank you Randy for making the world a better place.
How come a person who is dying give an amazing talk like that? It is almost inhuman. I shall never forget this person. I watch all kinds of lectures and of all kinds of subjects, so know what I am talking about: this guy rocks! May the force be with him, wherever he is now.
Time swallows every one..Time swallows Saints,Good,Evil,Poor,Rich,everything...but Spirit cannot be swallowed by time..as spirit is neither born nor it dies...Great Saints realise this truth...Excellent lecture...Great man..
"One day, you have less than you think". That's got to mean something. Actually I have already done something before watching this video. I browsed for time management videos to enhance my productivity and to remind me of something. Great advise, thank you for your time.
This was an amazing lecture. Everyone should watch this lecture and try to get the best of it. Time management is a big concern now a days. We need more time for our family and the only way to get that is having a good time management. Thanks Randy, rest in peace.
THIS MAN IS SOMEONE WHO WILL NEVER DIE, BECAUSE INTELLIGENT AND LOVER PEOPLE NEVER DIE, THEY ARE PUSSHED UP TO IMMORTALITY IN THE HEAVENS AND IN OUR HEARTS. HE IS A GREAT HUMAN BEING !!! ANYWAY, WE'LL MISS YOU, RANDY.
Truly changed my sight on time. Helped me manage and organize myself better and gave me great ideas on how to make more time for myself. Starting a time journal right this minute! ~SC
Man I can watch "motivational" vids all night but this is the one that gets me working god damn. See y'all in 30 days for some god damn life changing stuff
Great lecture and very good advice. As far as your cancer...Every day look into the mirror as you shave and tell yourself "not today". Cancer will not take me today. I survived 3rd stage breast cancer in 1986. I am still here. I still have that little talk with myself each and every day. It's not the only thing you need to do because you need to follow your doctor's orders. Appreciate everything every day and give as much love to as many people as you can give. It's a process and how you go through this process is up to you. You have much to offer and it would be a terrible loss if you did not join the survivor club. Survivors help others survive. Pay it forward.
Thank You Sir for the wonderful advice you gave in the talk. Just the kind of thing I needed to hear right now. Things involving time are going completely out of hand in my life. Your life is an inspiration for us all. Thank You once again.
i'm 14 and i loved thee lectures i am able to draw so much meaning from them and i need to wise up thank you so much randy you are sacrificing ur time for the better of the world for that we thank you =)

The time spent was warmed me in the human nature of his approach, the stories were to inspire, the ideas were clear, the laughs were genuine. With this question is sitting watching the sun rise for it's beauty, is that a waste of time, I think not as it is a time of reflection and just as Randy Pausch's lecture

Time management is one of the most important issues college students face in today’s day in age. A study conducted by MTV found that 60% of college students feel so overwhelmed by their many responsibilities that they feel like they can not get all of their work done. The main strategies that should be emphasized and taught to students should be the need to form a schedule, prioritize work correctly, maintain physical health, and reflect on their effort when attempting to manage their time. With these focal points, students will be better equipped to handle stress and perform well in the academic world.
"I discovered that my most productive time is between 10pm and midnight, which is really weird. But for me it's just this burst of energy before the end." A very Faustian thing for a guy achieved widespread fame the year before his passing.
So many people think life ends too soon while the real problem is that so many people wait so long to begin it. Randy, it seems, was a wonderful man and the world is less of a better place now he's passed. RIP xx
It kept me interested and can be accomplished. Listening to it on the drive to work really made it more enjoyable. I am working on self improvement and this was good advice to help me move forward with a variety of things.
After reading The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch, my perspectives on balancing work, family, and personal aspirations changed. I read the book over a year ago and I still reflect on the life lessons learned through his lectures.
such a great man that really is helping cherish time because time is very important such a great humor for someone who is going to die well he is dead now may his soul rest in peace
This was a great lecture. It is a shame he has past away. He is so inspirational and knowledgebale. We will miss his lectures and motivation for others. May he rest in peace. He seems like a wonderful and humorous guy.
Professor Pausch's lecture is wonderful. The camera work is done by amateurs - rarely are the slides shown in close up which would have greatly added to his presentation.
omg this man was so brave and lovely. May he rest in peace. I'd never really heard of him until about 2 months ago, Truely amazing. Thank you to him and his family for allowing us this precious time to help us with these issues. Wow...I mean I just watched Micheal Jackson's memorial and it's so clear that time/wasting time/ not making the most of time is just the worst thing people can do. Micheal lived his life to the full and so did this man. Thanks again.
I use two monitors, 1 projector. The central "monitor" is actually a laptop which detaches from the main displays. Behind/above the laptop centered is the projection, and to the right is the auxiliary display, for progress bars, email readers and reference documentation windows.
OH MY GAWD! Just under $45,000 has been raised in Professor Randy Pausch's name for Pancreatic Cancer research!! LET'S KEEP THE MOMENTUM GOING! You go to firstgiving daht calm forward slash randypausch and you can join the wave of inspiration. Let's do something PHENOMENAL for this man's legacy and really make an impact in researching this insipid disease!
i dont think that high grades should be that important, but doing the BEST on the subjects that you are appreciate and are good at, is the most important part.
Agree with kidtwist51... For the first time in my life. I started to make my own schedule: 15 minutes, daily, weekly, and to-do-list. The Result: My grade improve significantly. And for the first time I got 2 perfect score in a row (and was a tough one), fluid dynamics and math analysis. Thank you professor Randy Pausch. If you want to look at my template, send me message and i'll send it to you(don't worry, i won't ask for cash :P)
Randy, Thank you for giving so much of yourself. I am learning to say "NO." Maya Angelou says say "no thank you." I thought that was wise. :) Defend you creative time ruthlessly...very, very good advice.
I was a student of his the last two years he taught and he was one of the best people whom I have ever met. I often think about him even to this day. Rest In Peace, Randy, you are still missed.

When Prof. Paush died, it was a sad day in my family. He was truly an Icon. Please also watch childhood dreams! Must see for parents!!!
I first saw this video one month ago and then I came back as Randy advised in the end of this talk. I am glad that he is still alive. God bless!

Wow...I mean I just watched Micheal Jackson's memorial and it's so clear that time/wasting time/ not making the most of time is just the worst thing people can do. Micheal lived his life to the full and so did this man. Thanks again.
Dear Carnegie Mellon :),
Thanks again, for uploading this video. It is a wise video :)
I hope you have a nice day, Carnegie Mellon :)
All what you needed to do is just ASK! It's so nostalgic to watch such an old video.
Lol.. My science teacher made me watch this for homework!! Lol.. I LOVE her soooo much!! Even thrur her mood swings!!
One of the best videos I have ever seen.
Randy,
Thank you for giving so much of yourself. I am learning to say "NO." Maya Angelou says say "no thank you." I thought that was wise. :) Defend you creative time ruthlessly...very, very good advice.
if Mr. Pausch had the time to give this over 1 h talk, I guess we'd be able to listen to him in order to get some great time management tips :)
Practical and thought provoking with some very simple and realistic suggestions!
