I’m born and raised here in Anchorage,Alaska 🏔 ⛰ I love this video very realistic!
Thanks Vee :)
First off I look forward to seeing your videos each week. I love the organizational format of your videos.
Wow, thank you!
Thank you for the video! My husband and I are considering moving to Anchorage. I like the angle of the video it's like sitting on the couch with a friend just chatting 😊
FANTASTIC VIDEO! I've always been intrigued by Alaska, and I appreciated the detailed breakdown of costs. As somebody who's excited by both financial independence and travel, I'm really glad I found your channel. I'm excited to see more content! I just subscribed!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I been waiting, I’ve been refreshing my notifications probably 30 times a day for this video ( not specifically ) good video and I’ll be here next time too🖤
Glad you enjoyed it!
*Finally!* Been anticipating this upload🤗 .
This video is very helpful and informative, as always. Thanks 💕
You're so welcome!
Very helpful and relevant information! Thank you for such a good video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks Terri - We have been watching your videos as we are considering the possibility of moving to Anchorage. These videos are very helpful towards the decision...
You are welcome Manoj :))
Many thanks for breaking down those prices and yes the cost of living is much more steep than here in the lower states. I plan to move to Fairbanks and will be visiting in October and moving in June of next year.
Glad it was helpful! Best of luck on your move :)
Thanks for this video and others you've made as well, lots of changes it seems, lived there 6 plus years, loved it and it's far better than what most people think or especially what they've seen on TV. UAA class of (nevermind, lol !!! Never been that tough on hanging out, but when I did; My spot s were the Cattle Co., Houlahan's, Yesterday's and the Fly by Night club, but that's perhaps old school stuff and laughable these days. Nice entertainers were always passing through Anchorage, ... I loved it. Thank you again, ... and you're cute.
Thanks tossmc :) I remember when Cattle Co. was the spot! Now it's a ghost town.... Rona has changed things quite a bit, even since this video aired....
Lots of good information. I can't wait to visit again and have an even better time.
Thanks Michael! Any idea of when your next visit will be?
@@LifeAfter50withTerree I'm hoping by November this Covid 19 will be really under control. I also want to start planning for the summer to experience that daylight.
Hey Cherry thanks for the info. These are very useful information for me as a being an international student from Korea who is interested in studying at university of Anchorage Alaska
Wonderful! I am glad you found this video helpful :)
Thank you so much! All the other videos I've found have not been half as informative as yours
You're very welcome!
Such an informative video! Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Hey there! I may be going up there in a month or so! Looking forward to it!
Have fun!
Very informative! I thought about moving there at one time but the mosquitos are bad lol I will definitely visit one day tho.
Thank you :) You should!
Awesome video 👏🏻👏🏻 thanks for the info
Any time!
Woman! You’re making me happy it’s so much cheaper than Seattle!!!
Planning a Trip in March and this summer to check things out, already started my licensing application.
Everything you keep saying only excites me! Gas here is 2.99 for regular
I'm so glad! Enjoy your time here :)
Same girl. I am looking at some of those prices thinking they are pretty good. I know the housing cost is WAY lower than Portland. Utilities seems to be very slightly more, but registering the vehicle ONCE and no sales tax help cover those costs.
Thank you for this information your the best always
My pleasure!
You have given the realest review of being up here! I’ve been up here for one year!
I appreciate that! How are you liking it up here so far?
@@LifeAfter50withTerree, it is definitely is a 'slower' pace of life. People are 'salt of the earth' type people. Very different from the big city! It grew on me since being up here! Sticker shock on the food and housing! It was hard moving down in size and style. So, I ended up spending much more than I wanted. Got used to a lot of nature, moose in the yard, bears, etc. I'm doing good!

@@dotchphillips How do You deal with the lack of Sunlight?
I grew up in Anchorage! I was missing it today and found your channel ❤️.
So cool! Welcome to the crew!!
Same! I miss it so much
Hello Happy Girl, I like your video, it is informative. I went to UAA (University of Alaska Anchorage) for one year and decided to went back to Lower 48 because the shortage of sunlight during winter was killing me. I can resist the cold, but I can't tolerate lacking sunlight. 😫
I would highly prefer any city in Idaho instead of Anchorage if the concern is the cost of living. Any city in Idaho is cheaper than Anchorage, AK. LOL!!
The darkness is difficult to deal with so I see why you moved.
Great video. Thank you so much
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi! I was stationed at Fort Rich in the 80s and lived off post at Government Hill. There was some crime there but not that bad. I am coming to visit this October 2022 and will scout out the city and see what's going on. I miss it so bad. Thanks for the vid
You are welcome Mr. E Eric!
Cold and expensive! Nice video 👍🏾
Yes, thanks
What was the Average mall RATS shopping expenses more or less
that of LA compared to Anchorage like? And do they have Popeyes or Piccadilly's or any type of cajun?
Nice video. Do you get a Permanent Fund dividend check for living in Anchorage or is that just for the people outside of the city?
I live in California so I am usually reverse sticker shocked lolol. I see such low prices elsewhere, I am shocked! Thank you for sharing! I considered moving to Alaska 4 years ago, and still want to do so :). Thank you for sharing and great video ☺️!
You are so welcome!
Totally thinking about moving there. Thank you for your vid. I was so gonna ask about Afro hair and then you said it.
It’s expensive to live in anchorage Alaska from groceries too clothes furniture etc I just went their to work and I loved it but couldn’t stay wasn’t for me. You get time in a half after 8 hours of work each day that’s the plus.
Thanks for tuning in Angela!
Love you videos i will soon be moving to Alaska
Thank you so much Sirenita :) I wish you luck on your new adventure!
Awesome vídeo loved 🥰
Glad you liked it!!
I work in health insurance and my team has several large Alaska groups. The cost of health care is much higher in Anchorage compared to the rest of the country. Especially if you are looking for anything other than primary care. The lack of competition has a huge impact here.
I used HealthcareBluebook.com to compare prices of the first 5 procedures that came to mind.
Hip MRI - Ohio $938 - Anchorage $3,085 - 229% more
3d Mammogram - bilateral - Ohio $246 - Anchorage $481 - 96% more
Vasectomy - Ohio $836 -Anchorage $868 -4% more
Total Knee Replacement Ohio $26,300- Anchorage $49,943 -90% more
Basic office Visit - Ohio $173 - Anchorage $185 -7% more
Thank you again for another informative video.
Thank you for that that was very interesting I need you to know all about how much is everything for my vacation next year and June I will be ready I believe we're gonna stay 4 to 5 days I believe $600 is all I need for spending
Glad it was helpful! I agree 600 should be sufficient.
Wow!!!😃I REALLY ENJOYED HEARING ABOUT LIFE IN Alaska. I'M SINGLE ,and I better keep my day job.Because wow it high..hahaha..
Glad you enjoyed it!
Happy New Year, Sister.
Thank you! You too!
Great Job
Thinking about visiting anchorage!
Go for it!
Yeah I'll stick to San Antonio lol. I'd love to visit Alaska though just for the experience.
San Antonio is gorgeous!!
Thank you for this video.
I’m not a business person I depend of the work I do .
How is to find a year round job in Alaska, when you move over there?
I’m no looking for seasonal jobs.
Could outsiders find WHSES or factory job in The Anchorage metropolitan area?
My niece is a travel nurse was on assignment in Bethel, AK, Went to Anchorage for the weekend decide to go to the salon for a wash-n- set , long thick beautiful hair, her bill $110 plus. I told her she was charged by the length, no way that bill should've been that high, Goodness! Thanks for sharing.
You are most welcome Breeze :)
I love your info and intel. I know Alaska it used to be a second home. Seriously wanting to leave Washington.
And your BEAUTIFUL TO. 143
Thank you so much!
@@LifeAfter50withTerree yeah, been wanting to move up there for a while now. Just not sure how or when, but it will happen. I live in Washington, so I gotta have my trees and mountains and the smell of sea air.
Your welcome, your a good looking lady, and excellent vlogger. Your amongst the few I follow frequently.
Side bar..didn’t knw beautiful black women existed in a place like Alaska so shot out to you on that😁👍🏾. Now that that’s out of the way lol love the vids that you do because I can not find a lot of information on Anchorage Alaska and it is a place I have considered relocating to. And a couple concerns I did have about Alaska was 1. Pollution in regards to smog/air quality cleanliness of the areas and what the overall effects on human health would be. 2. The areas of Anchorage, what are some good livable areas in terms of owning and or renting. Schools, neighborhood safety, good and bad areas of Anchorage etc. 3. what are some good employment opportunities/ industries within anchorage that would pay you according to the cost of living because Anchorage is an expensive city to live in being that it is separated from the lower 48. And lastly what is the best way to move to a place like Anchorage? I’ve considered taking the Alcan because I would be coming from Chicago. But I drive a 3series and I don’t know if there would be any serious terrain I would have to navigate in order to get to Anchorage. If you can please make a video touching some of these topics I would greatly appreciate it. Because again there is just nothing really out there that’s as informational as some of the videos I’ve seen from you thanx. And keep making vids about Alaska👍🏾😁
Thanks so much for the compliment :) These are some great suggestions. I will work on videos addressing these questions very soon!
Thanx Happy Girl AK!!!👍🏾😁😁
Hey great bunch of questions. I would love to relocate....... I live in England.🙋👑
Your number 1 was my concern.
Great video .
Glad you enjoyed it
TERRY YOU are so beautiful and well spoken i love you and your videos they make people happy
Thanks Poppa Dot! I really appreciate you tuning in :)
Teri, I like your video. I think it should be pointed out that the income you mention is per household, not per capita or person. So It would likely, but not always more than one earner. We live in dual income society where both partners usually work 2 full time jobs.
Thanks for the info!
So I live in Hawaii and it’s so hot we’re thinking of Alaska since there is a lot of work for my husband there right now.
Great. 👏
Thank you! 😃
What are the names and numbers of some of the top salons for African Americans in Anchorage
You are so beautiful, thank you for making this video and thank you for being honest
You are so welcome
Informative
Thank you so much :)
I would go there just to see the beautiful nature and wilderness. Not sure if I would want to live. I live in Colorado and it seems housing is even higher than Colorado. I can see food being higher. Lots of it is probably imported from the lower 48.
I understand
What are cheaper cities to live in? I'm going to be working in a mine in Alaska
Would recommend anchorage, palmer, wasilla, eagle river, kenai area. The south central area is the most accessible to goods and services. Anchorage also has no sales tax (smaller cities (municipalities) do tend to add their own taxes on goods). Good luck and enjoy!!
@Magggot Mat be warned that most labor jobs are outdoors, and only work summer months. The most numerous labor jobs are either with oil companies or mining. If you want a warehouse type job I would go for the airport (UPS or something) loading plane containers. Good luck!
Heya! I have no family (that I live with) or connections, not much I’m bringing with me, a job I can transfer, and I can save up money to give myself a buffer and a year to wait before my current lease is up. I’m looking to live in anchorage, one issue is I don’t drive. How reasonable is me moving up, I’ll be flying
I’d say it’s still pretty reasonable. I worked with a woman who took public transportation all year and also biked during the summer. The winter may be a little rough waiting outside for the bus but it’s doable.
What about Social Security benefits. The amount I recieve right now is 814 a month.
Its 😎 SUPER COOL😄😄😄
Yes it is!!
We live up north, and my husband wants to relocate to Alaska. It’s the cold 🥶 for me.
It really is for me too, lol!
For me it wasn’t as cold as I thought if it’s in the 40’s it will feel about 50’s feels good I promise . It does get cold at night so yes bundle bundle up but you still see people riding their motorcycles wearing short sleeves and shorts
@@vincentdurr106 thanks 😊
Nice but very costly
Yes, that i true.
Are there shops for Tropical African groceries in Anchorage Sweety?
Yes there are. Check out my "Come Shopping with Me" video.
Nice review but you didn't mention three important considerations. No sales tax in Anchorage accept on cigarettes and hotel rooms for non AK citizens and the AK PFD which pays out a yearly average of about $1000.00 per person to residents of 1yr or more. No State income tax.
Right. Something was bound to get missed. Thanks for mentioning those items.
Hi Terry. How long have you been living in Anchorage Alaska?
I have lived here my entire life. We moved to Alaska when I was a young child.
How much is a loaf of bread or a gallon of milk..?

I am a union carpenter now I joined on purpose so that when I'm ready I can make the move to Alaska I would be able to join then a union carpentry construction firm there this has been a 20-year dream for me and I really really want to do this

I really want your help to knows alot of things
Ive wanted to live in Alaska since i was a kid. I live in Ohio and the cost of living in Anchorage seems pretty similar.
I'm legit trying to convince my husband in moving to Anchorage. Lol

I think cost is where you are coming from. A decent one bedroom here is at least $1100 with no garage.
Thanks for sharing
No doubt!
The cost of living is similar to Miami, FL
I am planning on moving to Alaska possibly next summer. I am a teacher. I also would be interested in best neighborhoods ect.
YOU are a teacher?! "ect"??? Let me guess, California public schools?
I've always wanted to move to Alaska. Even more so now. I live in California and it is getting really expensive.
Hi Christine! I here there has been a mass exodus from California. Let me know if you have any questions or video requests.
Your videos are awesome. How is the social scene there?
@@christinefrega8508 the social scene is ok. Things have kind of been off since the panoramic hit last year but slowly getting back to normal. There are a few videos on way to address this question. Coming soon!
Wow, I’m truly clueless I thought 💭 it would’ve been cheaper .
It's definitely higher than most other places.
It’s cheaper than California 😂
@@sunshinesweetlove8238 definitely. Have you seen the prices in San Francisco!? A single bagel costs 12 bucks.
It’s crazy. And the townhouses are like 780k
Seriously thinking of relocating to Anchorage. Really love your vids. Thank you. If I ever do come up, let's get coffee. Ezekiel Tyrus.
Thanks so much for the compliment Ezekiel :)
Hey how long you been out there
Over 30 years :)
Is it true Alaska pays you to live there? If yes how much?
We receive a dividend check every year if you qualify. I break it down in my Things To Know About Alaska live video.
We pay way more in rent here in NYC
That’s I heard, and for a lot less….
I am coming in October
Nice! I just know you will have a great time!😊
It wasn't that bad living in Alaska till about 6 months ago
Hi Edward! What happened 6 months ago?
I want to go to grad school in Alaska. I just fear like it would be prohibitively expensive 😫
Anna, if you set your mind to it you can make it happen. I don't have answers for you on this topic but why don't you try reaching out to the student counseling office for some advice?
I 'll visit don't care about the mosquitoes I rather deal with them thin some of the people your house sounds nice House are expensive out there did you pay taxes and what's the mosquito season before I move down there I'm going to stay down there for about 3-4 months maybe rent some thing I don't know if they have any monthly hotel rentals in the Urban part that's reasonable or a small apartment maybe something one bedroom living room with a fireplace two bedrooms will be better play swear I'm a laundromat close full beer and stuff like that close
hello "I let you know that I watch your show almost always and it makes me happy 'I like one day to come to visit Alaska really it" is my dream since my youth is that you can orient me and give me more 'information on this topic thank you very much'
Good morning Nacer! What information are you looking for? I will be making more videos on moving to Alaska but if you have a specific request let me know. And thanks for supporting the channel!
Sister it's been a while since I've seen your videos and you've gotten prettier and prettier.
Ah, thank you Ali :)
I'm gonna do some research on the black community up there in Anchorage
I want to move there so bad
I’d move there for just the sushi
Is Alaska more expensive than California?
I heard California is more expensive. Especially with home prices.
@@LifeAfter50withTerree is true that’s why people are leaving in droves. Even I am considering to move away from here and Alaska is one of the states considering moving to
Is costco gas cheaper than what you mentioned in this video?
Sometimes Costco has the best deal. It just depends on the market I think.
I damn near had a heart attack when U said $31 for a large Pizza lol , that better be a VERY very large Pizza to consider paying that but that's just me maybe !
I know but it's soooo Good! You wouldn't be disappointed :)
Where is this $31 pizza? Please provide a source for this. The Moose's Tooth has a 18 inch pizza for $18.95 . Egg Foo Yung is outrageous though. $17.
Up here in New Jersey you would be paying so much more money for what you're getting down there until it's unbelievable.
Wow that is interesting to hear. I'm learning there are several cities outside Alaska with higher costs.
OMG 81K? No wonder I am always broke. Have you tried getting a roommate?
I agree, 81K is pretty steep.
I've meet someone in Anchorage Alaska.I' think I'would.like too visit one day.I' heard.its cold.there.I' live here in.farrell Pennsylvania and it gets hot here.something Im useto.maybe one day.give it a' visit!!💝 😃...?

5.05 a gal for me way up north
Wow! And I thought our prices were steep....
I live in San Francisco. This all sounds like a bargain to me.
Lol! I’m sure it does😊
Why is Alaska more expensive compared to Montana? There's nothing there, lol.
Mostly because items are shipped here. We are quite a ways from the rest of the U.S..
I don’t do drugs
How can we talk I will pay for your time. I want to know if Alaska is really a match for me. Thanks.
Hello Mark😊 If you would like to donate to the channel via cashapp $TerreeBold I’d be happy to schedule a 1:1 with you. $45 for 30 minutes.
I head the crime is pretty bad there. Is it true? I’ve always wanted to hear this from an actual person. Not the news
Hi Hope! There are certain areas you want to limit access to but I believe Anchorage is pretty safe for the most part.
@@LifeAfter50withTerree thank you for the clarification ☺️
MOST people, however, are probably making minimum wage at $9.89 and working 2-3 jobs.....
In Anchorage or the Alaska state as a whole?
Pardon my barging in.
You’re fine. In general in any of the metropolitan areas (Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau) and their surrounding smaller towns/cities pay $9.89 for jobs that aren’t in oil, nursing, engineering, or specialized trades. The universities are not a stable job market at the moment either and I hear teaching is especially difficult due to the low testing scores statewide. You can get lucky and find places that pay $10.50-12, but I don’t see them very often if at all. Most available jobs these days (even before covid) seem to be in retail or service industry.
Sorry, *starting is usually $9.89 because it’s literally the lowest they can get away with paying people.
Yes, that is possible....
@@dreamingswimmer I am curious about your comment about teaching. Scores may be low but teachers are still required. Can you explain the comment?
Are people passive aggressive
Are you gonna answer my question lol
