I would have put the shelves on the wall above the desk and put the acrylic board on the end wall where I could reach it to make notes or add samples. I definitely like the second rug the best with those colors.
i think that is nice to see your acrylic board while working
Then it would show on her zoom calls. She probably doesnt want that
It seems like you won't be able to reach the majority of it unless you're real tall
I agree. I think this would be a much better layout!
@@thoselittlehands5388 he said to put the acrylic board on the END wall, meaning the wall on her right if she is seating in her desk. She is also gonna hit herself in the head with that shelf above her seat.
As much as I like the Alex cabinet separating the space from the other room, I also find that it reduces lighting in the nook. I think a floor lamp or a table lamp to the right of the room would be needed in order to light her face during the many video calls she will need to do. Perhaps if the shelf had been above her desk, a lighting solution there could have helped with that. It’s definitely a tricky space!
You could clip a selfie clamp light to desk or ring light to computer.
good point, i thought so too
I gasped when I saw that chair. It looks so uncomfortable. I was so glad when I heard her other chair will actually be there and that one is extra.
Also, personally I would have put the acrylic on the wall to the right. I’d get frustrated if I had to keep standing up to jot down a note, otherwise it’s a neat idea. Love the wall and the larger rug
I can tell you its the opposite, its very very comfortable! (And its Danish design😍🇩🇰🇩🇰)
That chair looks great to me - I have a similar stool and the seat is supportive without being chilly.
kattemilla I absolutely agree, I have a chair like this in my own work space, and it's very comfy.
"I gasped" ... so dramatic lol
When you put down the first rug, I thought “how pretty, wish it was slightly bigger.” You put down the 2nd, and I thought “GORGEOUS, that’s the one!”
Such a small space and you were able to make it functional! Blessed and safe days!
I would put two shelves above the desk where I couldn't bang my head on them. I also would have put the dry erase board on the end wall, at a height that would be easy for me to jot down notes while seated. Like the accent wall color, desk and cabinet. I would definitely choose the larger, darker rug.
Ruby is short she won’t bang her on the shelves.
Poor Chico! You shouldn’t call him out!!! You need merch. that reads, “Chico, I need You! “ 😀😀
The acrylic marker board should have been on a more accessible wall, not behind the computer!
It looks fine there, I thought.
I mean, if it's reachable for the client.
You won't brush against it there, smudging the notes before you can photograph them.
Agree. It’s difficult to utilize the entire board reaching over a desk, have experienced firsthand.
Agree! Also would prefer to have the hanging shelf on the left wall - on top of the table. To avoid her head bumping to the shelf while standing.
Definitely.
Glad it wasn’t just me. Ruby isn’t that tall so reaching across the desk over the top of the monitor seems awkward at best and maybe straining.
I think I've watched all your videos on your main channel twice and just binged all of the Make My Space Work videos throughout quarantine! You are so talented and fun to watch 💜
SAME!!!
This series makes me want to be an entrepreneur
@@makemyspacework I love you
😂🤣
I’m a plant lover and it’s true, scientists in Japan proved that plants make you more productive!! That’s why a Looooot of new offices in Tokyo have plants and living walls🥰🙌🌱
But as a plant lover you also know that they need light to thrive. This is a very dark nook. Only faux plants should be put there. These plants will die soon if left where Alexandra placed them.
@@walle5667 some low light tolerant plants might survive in there (not sure the amount of light), but definitely not the ones she chose. I hate faux plants though, that's just a lot of unnecessary plastic. Just because we translate "fake" into the French "faux" doesn't make it chic. Using dried plants like eucalyptus or olive branches or even pampas grass is another way to bring plants to a dark corner.
@@walle5667 There are light bulbs that are made to specially foster plants. They emit sunlight type rays.
I love this series!!! You are so talented and awesome
I love this. And I love how much your styling range has grown!. I love the second rug and I'm so glad you kept the original chair, my back started hurting looking at the bonus chair..i think that should be your next challenge especially for this series.. Finding ergonomic office chairs that are also stylish!
Yes! I thought the same about the chair. I feel like in this kind of videos (not Alexandra's per se but other makeovers I've seen), many people overlook the tremendous importance of a good office chair and sacrifice comfort and durability for style. I love your suggestion for Alexandra to tackle that challenge!
This makeover I liked too. The cabinet, floating shelves, desk, and acrylic erase board were the best of this makeover.
It’s biophilia and it’s a real thing!! Interior designers use it in a lot of spaces but it plays a critical role in healthcare and office/corporate jobs!
I like the color on the wall. I would have prefered the shelves on the same back wall. The L makes it look smaller.
Glade im not the only one
I agree and you probably won’t be able to see them when she’s on calls cuz they’re a bit high
I liked it. My only worry was hitting your head. Because I’m a klutz and do this often. 😆
@@LE123LE123 me too. Getting hit on the head whenever I wake up suddenly doesn't seem at all appealing 😯
@@lizz_crossing l
Love the rug you chose. Love the staggered shelves. Love the taller storage on the outside. Love the desk and chair and how the accent color looks with her logo. Always love the plants. Great job.
I love these tiny nook makeovers. Also, the space looks great, but your lipstick is EVERYTHING. 💄
Love it! Though worried she may bang her head on the shelves when getting up from the chair. The shelves are also too high to be showing in her zoom calls. Opposite wall would have worked better IMO.
Excellent makeover ! I think putting the arcylic board on the right side wall would be more functional. What do you think?
I just painted over ALL the grey in my home I purchased in July...within three days of moving in I knew I couldn’t stay without a sunnier color. Every room was grey.
It doesn’t look like you have created enough storage for her stuff
I’ve been watching all your video’s again today!! We’ve been thinking on make over my grandmothers house on a budget so your tips are the best way to start en inspire us 🤩
I would’ve loved to have seen a desk with drawers not so much dead space under the work surface
I love that first rug! And the corner shelves really does make it feel like a bigger space. Love that.
For me the shelf location was a huge miss. If I used that space I would be banging my head on them all the time. The large workspace was great though.
The shelves are high enough that this client won't hit her head at all.
I loved the space.
If it was a problem, I'd probably pad the shelf edges with a pool noodle or something.
I was thinking the same thing about the shelves!
@@pama.6410 Yes, good point. When she's standing next to the room you can easily see that she's good.
I think they're cute for a zoom call but I feel like it closed in the space for sure
I love what you did with the space, but where did you put all of that stuff? There's no way all that fit in the upright drawers. And where did her Cricket machine end up? I love the second rug and I'm so glad that's the one you chose!
I also think the acrylic board should have been under the shelf to her right where it would be more accessible and I would also have put a task lamp on the right corner of her desk and a nice piece of artwork above her monitor so she could have a relaxing visual piece to look at for a break and also so it would/could have been seen from the living room. I do love the accent wall color and the desk and chair. The second rug was the right choice in my opinion as well.
I love it. You are so talented in what you do. It would be so great if you could make a tutorial about how to change a light. I would love to change mine but I’m afraid to do it.
This is quickly turning into one of my favourite makeover series on internet. Love!
I personally would have maybe utilised the back wall to build in a wall to wall desk and overhead wall to wall shelves and maybe even add the filing cabinets instead of actual legs on both sides for extra storage? And bc her business involves cloth samples, maybe a clothing rack would’ve come in handy as well?
Alexandra needs merch that says “Make Chico do it.”
@@makemyspacework Who doesn´t love Chico ? He looks brazilian. Good guy ! :)
Yes
@@carolargentina he does! I think so too.
Beautiful tranformation but I agree with others when they said the acrylic board would probably work better on the end wall and a little lower. I'm 5'9" with long arms and there's no way I could reach that comfortably with the computer screen and desk in front of it. Other than that I love the rug and the paint color and the plants. You did a great job.
I don’t think it’s a knock against Alexandra’s talent to say that if feels like so much of these makeovers are tidying and organizing.
I like the furnitures but yeah I agree, she shouldn't have done the L shelf... Better to put 2 rows of shelves on the side wall only and kept the back wall bare.... it looks cramped and the acrylic should've on the back wall and can also be used as a board while she's teaching so a lighter accent colour would've been nicer too like sky blue or sage~
Chico freehanding that paint cut corner!!!
Wow you hurt my feelings have 3 of them lights in my house 😂 but you’re right I’m change them out now
I like the 2nd rug 👍🏼. Nice transformation, hope her business prospers.✌🏼
I really wanted to purchase some products from her! A nurse making medical supplies just makes SENSE! Followed her page and will be patiently waiting for her line to drop 💕
Right ! Comfortable scrubs can be soo expensive, I'm super excited for her launch :)
Love it!!!! The nook actually looks more spacious after 💓💓💓
Love the color of the accent wall! And that storage tower. What a huge transformation in such a tiny place. Great job Alexandra!!👏🏻
Well done. Nice Zen vibe in that office with the gray/white/black.
Love the acrylic board. I think I'll be getting one of those.
I vote for the second rug, but if I were choosing I might look for strong diagonal lines to visually enlarge the space. But that's a minor quibble and not strictly necessary.
I really love it :-) but does the pendant light give her enough light on her keyboard? Maybe there could have been a cute table light as well? 💡
It's honestly so inspiring seeing you take on these really small spaces! It makes me want to respect and make the most of my workspace. Would love to see you do an artist/painters studio!
Amazing makeover! Good luck Ruby on all your endeavors!
Hi Alexandra! I been working from home for 5 years now and from experience a drawer in the desk is needed. The other thing i will have done differently is to install multiple shelves in the narrow wall only. Love the color of the accent wall and the lamp is beautiful. 😉
In another video, she added an under desk drawer - you can get them to stick on.
But she has a huge tall drawer unit right next to her desk.. I think she'll be fine there :)
@@Kath-Erina Of course for all the supplys, I have a small one too, but in the desk drawers i keep important papers, the agenda and stuff like that.
Awesome new space! I really like your red lipstick but LOVE the pink you have on in this video!!
I feel like the floating wall shelves are invading the behind the desk walking area of the nook. I think it would be more functional stacked on far wall or L over the desk.
I think leaning over the desk (and computer) to write on board can get awkward. Board on accent wall could be a teaching tool. 🤔
Yes the organization of items seemed strange to me too, the space feels cramped.
Also the « divider » limits the amount of light on the desk.
Pretty but not very confortable :)
Love it! But all office makeovers on every channel leave out the functioning things like printers (and in this case her Cricut machine) in the reveals.
I agree. Lack of storage will make the owner have piles of things scattered again.
In her other makeovers she includes printers and other practical things
Her hot pink cricut was on the desk, kinda hidden behind the monitor in the final shots.
Even I like the second rug more! Your styling scene is amazing Alexandra! I eagerly wait for yours makeovers!
I mean, Ruby may be short enough to not bump her head on the shelves. But that also means that she'll never reach the acrylic board over the monitor, let alone WRITE on it decently. For hanging notes it's fine. But have you ever tried writing while leaning that much forward, over an obstacle? Not well designed.
The rest is beautiful I find!! Cool wall color, cool furniture colors. Though I don't think that the plants will show up on her calls, they are too high and too close.
What a great transformation. It looks so much bigger than before. I would have chosen the 2nd rug, too; the colors go better and the size was right. Great job! Blessings all!!!!
I want a nook!!! Really beautiful. I'm getting lots of ideas for my studio apartment watching all the different episodes💖😁
Love all your designs! When you do such a dark nook though, try to use low light plants. That string of dolphins is gonna die in no time.
What about faux plants? Having to move plants back-and-forth is not a lot of fun.
@@ih4630 But faux plants are not as pretty and basically just plastic waste...all the nice effects of real plants are gone if you swap them with faux ones :( In my opinion, plants are such a beautiful way to get a bit of nature into your room and artificial plants are basically the opposite of that haha
I get what you mean though, moving them all the time would really be annoying
@@makemyspacework yeah but moving them back and forth like that can shock the plant and cause it to die, not to mention the fact that it would be annoying to have to do. there are so many pretty low light plants that could have been used instead
I love BOTH rugs (&, incidentally, YOUR pedestal bowl that is no longer white but now LAVENDAR...SO MUCH BETTER!) and you really couldn’t go wrong with either one but I do like your rationale for filling the space out. The new desk feels spacious and expansive, the new tower o’ drawers gives her room to soar. So great! I’m a little concerned that the dark grey background will not be much contrast to her black hair on Zoom calls but now I see her logo is that color so she will just have to get some great lighting for video. I wish there were some more colorful touches of her sample fabrics, vision board pics, inspirational images of everyday heroes, etc. but she can add all that. I know her products and the people she is serving will bring most of the color and pattern. So excited for them!
Good luck on your business!!!
What a wonderful person the recipient is, such a giving person ❤️ And wonderful that you were able to give to her. I loved the dark moody wall, loved the second carpet choice, shelves look great. Don’t be too hard on Xico for being late - he is such a hero in every one of your makeovers 😃 Stay sage and best wishes from Australia 🇦🇺
You do a wonderful job clearly understanding what your client needs in their small space to be able to work in there a small space. You also come up with great storage ideas.
I like the 2nd rug as well.
You have such brightness to you and it shows in all your videos!
I love your designs.
For everyone saying the shelves are a hazard for her hitting her head... check out 12:21 to see that the client is much shorter than the shelves. Literally not even an issue.
While the client is the primary user of the space...but other people may use or be in the space (alone or with her). A friend my need to use the computer...she may want/need someone to come over to see what she is working who would stand behind her, or someone needs to share the monitor for a zoom call etc
In general I think it is awkward to have part of the main walking space to be under a shelf (regardless if is 2-3 inch clearance). Even if there is technically enough space some people could feel claustrophobic.
I love both rugs, but I think the larger one ties in with the accent wall perfectly! Love your work Alexandra! :)
Hi "Make My Space Work" I'd like to know where the floor rugs you tried can be purchased. There was no link in the notes for it. I'd like info on the larger one. Great job on that space, Alexandra!
Does anyone have a link to the monitor support/stand?
So cute!! Love the pendant light and all of the plants!
I always look forward to watching your uploads!
I would love to start a costume/prop store! I have my own nook I want to setup to get going on my passion projects
I screamed "nooooo" when I thought you got rid of her great chair with the gold hardware! LOL! This one was especially perfect for the client, AG. Good job.
The 2nd rug was the best choice, for sure. Love your channel. I'm Cuban and I live in Beijing, so happy to tell you your ideas reach out people all over the world 🥰.
This makes me want to start my business so I could have a space like this 😂 I'd love to start a stationary business. You did a great job with this space! I love this series. Also, I agree I would have chosen the 2nd rug!
I am OBSESSED with that minimalist arc faux planter on the desk 😍. Such a small detail but makes a great impact.
Wow, I love this space!! Great changes/additions but the accent wall is AMAZING!!
I prefer 1st rug than 2nd rug, looks more brighter and fresh for dark colour wall 😄
Totally good call on the rug...love the darker & bigger version.
second rug for sure! it ties in with the wall too!
Glad you keep making these. These videos have helped save my sanity during COVID.
The larger rug is best. Love the dark grey wall that matches the logo colour. The l shaped shelf is a good idea but doesnt work in the space, as others have said, the space is too small for this shelf and you could bump your head. I would put it over the desk and the work board to the side a bit, not directly behind the computer. I live in a small space and this kind of nook is a tough one to do without living there.
i think dulux oxford-blue would have been gorgeous on the wall. The grey is so dull
So I'm working on launching an etsy store, but first it's going to be digital products until I figure out this spacing issue. I still live at home, and my room is small. Dorm room small. When I made stickers for my own planner here a year ago, it was a nightmare. So I'm looking for a printer and a new cutting machine that won't take up too much room, but that's going to be hard in general. So I may just have to just focus on digital products for awhile instead. Which I don't mind because I love creating in general, and there is a market for that. And with the whole thing that I'm still trying to go to grad school abroad, a physical sticker business might not be something I can do right now. Eventually I do want to create my own unique line of planners & journals that merges my research together with the product.
I love the light in this one
Love this channel, I love how you slightly rearrange things, and bring in just enough new life to make space work....without breaking bank.
OMG, Alexandra, you look so beautiful in this video! This airy dress and glossy make-up look so refined and fit you so well!
Looks amazing Alexandra and yes the darker rug was the way to go 💜
I would do some research on plants before you use them to style. That English ivy and that string of dolphins are going to die very quick in there.
Exactly what I was wondering about.
Yes,poor plants
@@menena78 yeah, so many interior designers treat plants like a piece of decor. They can be, but they're so much more than that. Alexandra mentioned how positively they can affect your mental health and productivity, but they need to be alive for that... Bobby from Queer Eye likes to put fiddle leaf fig trees in every dark corner, and that drives me nuts. That's a very expensive tree that NEEDS bright light, so putting them in a dark corner is just sending them to their deaths. Interior design should be meant to last, it's not about a photo shoot, as much as we all love before/after shots. How will the client feel when their beautiful green space turns into a plant graveyard a month later? That really could be avoided with appropriate research.
@@adarusat I agree with you. Moreover, sometimes they are placed in spots difficult to reach so they end not receiving enough water
A nook like that is an invitation for a plastic plant--if it's a good quality one, it would look very good on a high shelf.
Definitely the darker rug! Great choice!
Very nice except for the books scattered all over the office and stuck under objects-- particularly plant pots that might leak.
If I could impart one lesson to the decorators of the world it would be "books are not art supplies." If you can't reach your books because they're being used as risers or read the covers because someone turned them all the wrong way or painted them all the same color (good god, why?), their utility is severely compromised.
I'll just about put up with books being arranged by size instead of some sensible scheme, but once you start using them as furniture you lose me.
I agree, David. This trend using books as decor totally baffles me. I AM a serious book lover and to me, a bookcase full of books that I love is a thing of beauty! :) ...no matter how they are arranged! Also, people are buying old books in thrift stores just for the colour of the cover, with no intention of reading them. What's the point of that, I ask? LOL
I say to each his own. People ascribe different values to different things. In some cases its not even a reflection of value. I'm an avid reader. I once bought a Kindle and sent it back because I love a physical book. Yet I grew up using books as risers :-) I use books in my decor today! Hey,I still ended up with a BA (honours) and a MBA (honours). Plus planning on doing my Phd soon! So to each his own! Your book...you decide!
@@moniquekyahlovewilson2374 I agree with you. I'm just saying the trend baffles me! ;) And I guess if people buying books at Thrift stores saves them from the landfill, that's a good thing. I just would never, personally, pay money for a book that I didn't want to read. :D
I'm ok with it; I'd never risk a planter leaking on a book, though. The only thing that really bugs me is turning books around so that you can't see the spine.
@@jemma50 lol! I get you! I read them first though!!!
Under 20mins since upload! ☺ loved it. Simple, functional, pretty, inspiring.
That rug is beautiful! Where did you get it?
OMG!! I know where exactly this condo is for the first second I saw the den. I bought a unit in this building with the same layout including this tiny den😂 This video is super inspiring. I wish I watched this video earlier!
You could have done a floor to sealing storage on the back wall. Ikea has a ton of different closet and bookshelf frames. Now the space feels super cramped and awkward and she still doesn't have much storage in it.
Like many of these commenters, I agree the shelves should have been put either above the computer or on the wall to the right when she sits down. I would be constantly hunching expecting to get a head knocked or a shoulder ripped with the shelves where they are. Also, hard to reach that acrylic, elsewhere. The big desk is a plus, why not put it on top of two filing cabinets for more storage? I'm afraid those plants won't live in that corner, also, who doesn't spill water when watering plants? Then by by to those books. Come on, Alexandra, you can do better.
Love it. Definitely the second rug. Always enjoy your videos.
loved the second rug also...made the wall colour pop even more..
"ZZZZ" at the beginning made me crack up. Good job Carla!
I love it. The rug is gorgeous and I like the shelves and plants. Honestly my favorite is always Chico!💕😘
This made my Thursday 🤗 another successful outcome! Great job Alexandra & team AG!
